12:24 As one of the volunteer operators of Ffarquhar in that clip, I just want to clarify that there was nothing wrong with the model. The reason it kept stopping and going was that we'd forgot to switch one of the points in the fiddle yard to an empty siding than the one the previous engine went into. And as such resulted in limited power going into the engine. When we found this out and switched the points to an empty fiddle yard siding, Percy ran much better.

Hi Sam. new rev awdry as my family from Stroud area. Visited him in his house and went into the study. Also exhibited at his village model railway show and first saw him at the Victoria Rooms at Bristol when i was a child. By the way in later years he was a bit intollerant of kids. When i built Nailsworth in the 1980s he provided many photos and information including a guards record from 1890 with drivers name, train consists and numbers of passengers travelled. Caroline

I was lucky enough to meet the Rev W Awdry when I was 8 and attend one of his lectures. He referred to his books as The Railway Chronicles. I was the youngest there by a long way, but I was lucky enough to meet him after, he was a lovely man, we chatted for a little while and then signed a book for me (which I still treasure). I have yet to visit the Tallyllyn, hopefully at some point in the future. Thanks for sharing Sam & Chloe 🚂👍

I’m on holiday in Britain currently, and visited the railway several days ago, on the most beautiful sunny day! It’s a truly stunning part of the world, and a day out I’ll treasure forever! I’d actually bought a ticket to attend the Extravaganza on the Saturday, however I only flew in to Heathrow on the Thursday and felt like it was a bit too much of an ask to travel all the way to Wales in such a short period of time! Maybe another time!

I have a lasting memory of the Wonderful Rev Audry. I visited the Forrest of Dean Railway many years ago. Saw the big advertisement for the Isle of Sodor exhibition. What I wasn't expecting was it was The Rev Audry at the controls doing the narration on a layout in a carriage. I climbed in.it was packed. Little kids at the front adult's at the back. Audry was well into his stride when a little boy who wanted to see but was to short to see the layout. He hooked his hands onto the protective perspex and tried to haul himself up to get a better look. In an instant this narled hooked finger pointed at the struggling boy, followed by the words.... "you boy" honestly every adult tried desperately to take a step back, expecting lightening to be emitted from his finger end. The boy disappeared, we all nervously laughed, and the religious finger held so much power. What a man. I read all his books as a kid. It was such a privilege to meet the man before he passed. ❤❤❤❤❤

Glad you actually got to go to an Awdry Extravaganza. This seemed like THE year to go.
Tom Rolt’s face was pure nightmare fuel, although Ivo Hugh was the biggest NPC in The Railway Series, so it may be fitting…
The faces for Sir Handel and Rusty look SO good!! I thought Peter Sam’s face was the best from two years ago.
As far as the ‘pirate’ face goes, that’s probably the Sir Handel face from when Prince Charles and Diana visited the Talyllyn. The engine struck a tree on the line, and the face had to be bandaged up. Funny enough, the incident inspired a story in Chris’ ‘Great Little Engines’.
Glad you and Chloe seemed to have a good time. Cheers.

Weird to think, I went to Talyllyn for the first time about 15 years ago. I saw the Awdry study before the museum was a thing, I looked through the glass window and my Dad asked one of the staff if we could have a closer look at the study, explaining what a huge fan i was. They saw how mesmerised I was and they were kind enough to let us in. We got closer to Ffarquhar and the models more than most did at the time just through pure generosity. So its fantastic to see people across the globe get the chance to see this holy grail of Awdry history up close. Every credit to the staff and volunteers, a true credit to the Talyllyn and Awdry.

If you and Chloe can get to the Tall-y-llyn Railway, surely you can try visiting the only standard gauge railway at my end: the Llangollen Railway. The sun manages to shine nearly 9 times out of 10 there, because of me bringing the sunshine with me. You have to get food from Llangollen Station Cafe, if you want lunch, as you can't get it at the Corwen end. The Corwen Shop isn't very big, but there's an N Gauge layout there in one corner. Press a white button on the wall hard, and a little GWR Pannier Tank Engine will strut her stuff for you for a few laps. The full return journey (Llangollen to Corwen and back again) is two hours long. Plus you can't beat riding behind 7754 the Pannier Tank Engine life-size version. Ask the Driver nicely, and he'll let you stand in the cab.

Anyone considering going can make it a week's expedition by visiting the Fairbourne, Vale of Rheidol, Ffestiniog, Welsh Highland and Corris railways at the same time along with many other tourist attractions. The roads can be a bit hairy but there's also the option of going by train. Just don't do what I did once (when Tywyn was spelt Towyn) and find National Express have sold me a ticket to the Towyn on the North Wales coast.

Really great video Sam! I do agree the faces of the engines are creepy! You'd think they'd get them redone a bit nicer like Sir Handels

They are slowly faxing out the Old (Nightmare) Faces in favour of the new one, as seen on Rusty and Sir Handle this year. They have already done this for Peter Sam and Duncan, however the faces are reasonably expensive, and so can only be done 1 or 2 at a Time

Only been to the talyllyn once in my life so far, it was a quite a long time ago though and when I went it was only for a short visit and only to one of the stations at the end of the line, decent video here Sam.

4th suggestion for your slate, Snooker tables
By the way, that wasn't the name of the museum but 'Museum' in Welsh.
Despite the rain, a great day out I think and will certainly add it to my to visit list.

Great to see you back as a twosome - you make a great couple on screen that bounce off each other and add another dimension to the videos.
And Sam - get that proposal done properly 🥰 😂
