Happy growing!
I'm impressed with how steady Zelda is holding the camera already.
And adding some nice o-tones at the same time 😉👶🤗👍
I bet she’s editing too. We have a little prodigee here !
Excellent method! And Zelda's commentary is priceless 💕
Zelda’s ADORABLE cooing!! I LOVED it!!! 🥰 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I split mine using a hatchet and wooden "mallet", a short thick hardwood branch. I pound the hatchet with the mallet, avoiding swinging a heavier axe, while keeping my hands safe too.
Absolutely adorable to hear Zelda offering stage direction in the background!
She is a pretty wonderful little being, we feel so lucky she chose us!
Zelda was excited to watch her dad work. Cheering him on.
Sasha and Zelda, all looking healthy and happy 😊
I never split kindling anymore. I just cut the branches down to 1.5-2” diameter. Makes the brush way easier to deal with. I use all my waste paper and those small diameter pieces on the bottom and fires light beautifully. I stack everything all together with mixes sizes and mixed species. A have a separate pile of fruit wood for the grill and smoker.
Nice narration by Zelda!
Trees do provide quite a bit of kindling if you're willing to cut it
Wonderful and thorough use! When I made firewood myself I would absolutely do the same. This is from a delivered pile and the pieces are chonky so a lot of final splitting...
Love the Zelda sounds😊
Very swift and efficient method, for sure! Zelda will be out there helping Dad bring in firewood before you know it! Glad everyone is happy and healthy!
Thanks kindly. We're excited and hopeful that our lifestyle here is compelling to her. We want to offer lots of space around that but it would be just so sweet to work with her on this!
Such sweet little sounds from a contented Zelda.
Being a dad will keep you young for a good long time.
yeah, whether you like it or not! 😅
Great video, as always! Zelda's approval made this NEXT LEVEL! I was laughing out loud as I learned. 💫
Cedar makes fantastic kindling. Splits from a cold stare.
ha!
Great - friend showed me the tire technique and it blew my mind! I like the technique of holding the axe closer to the head and also twisting. The only thing I read once was to bend the knees when striking so you have less chance of swinging into them.
Good reminder to have the knees protected
We love Zelda's input. Bravo lass!
She's keeping us on track
So love the baby sounds.
We do too
Perfect back saver for kindling. Also try thick winter dried sunflower stalks for fire starting.
Neat idea, I will keep that in mind for this winter
I bet if you were to sell it (trade it) you could bundle it right then and there too. Or generally to transport it.
We have a cast iron cylindrical "cage", the blade is facing up at the middle of the cylinder, and it’s the wood that is thrusted onto it. Sometimes i use a mallet.
Ps my own 4 month old loved Zelda’s commentary. Made him smile in his sleep
That is so so sweet! She is just behind him at 3.5 months. Hoping all is well and healthy and vibrant in your family life.
Yeah, we have a thing like that too... Kindling Cracker. I may do a video on it as it's a nice device
Hi Zelda! thanks for supervising.
Is there anything more sublime than the smile of a woman looking at her baby?
:)
First video of yours I saw was about honeyberry stool layering. Thanks for all that you do. Have a good day. :)
Hey you've been with us for a while then!
Excellent splitting method with tire. Smart and efficient❤❤❤❤❤
Beautiful Zelda, will be talking fiuently in no time and will require information in detail, constantly. You may need to start accumulating information. My son could read a book in a day. Yes teach her to read and think, now. ☺
Cooing makes all work more pleasurable! Love her beanie!!
This is brilliant! Definitely going to use this method. Thank you for sharing. Zelda is precious ❤
I agree with Zelda's suggestions on refining your technique. You should do what she said.
thank you, woodshed roof looks goood and the bounas footage awsome
It's a great method. Be careful not to hit your one hand on a piece when you choke up. Looks like you came close. I did that this fall. Extremely painful but was lucky not to break any bones in my hand.
Good reminder to keep vigilant
Great demo Sean! And Baby Z is cutie-pie! 💝
Great video. Everyone needs to do this!
It has been quite helpful and I've used this for no less than 10 cords of wood now
well done heh the panels look good
Cheers!
Congrats on your baby girl.
I use untreated framing lumber cutoffs for kindling when I have them, or the twigs and branches of a tree when I am breaking it down. The twigs are great to start the fire and the smaller branches catch quick from the twigs and lay down a good base of hot coals to light the full size firewood. I figure it takes about the same time to chop small stuff up than it would to cut and split kindling. Sometimes I come across some conifer logs and split them fine for kindling. The framing lumber lights so quickly it's kinda scary seeing that is what most houses are built out of.
I am salvaging some great 6' pallets to build a wood shed inspired by yours. Keep up the good work.
Omgoodness the cuteness of Zelda, I love it. Also thanks for the demo 😂
:)
Zelda seems to approve ❤😂 I’ll have to try the tire thing.
I rolled my eyes at the title but watched it anyways and glad I did. Good video. Also wonder Do you keep honey bees?
We have mason bee hives we've set up for the wild bees but no formal honey bee hives
Utilizing resources inherited with the farm. Large heavy clever with a chip in the edge, Dead blow mallet [ plastic striking faces and lead inside ] I am replacing cedar post that have finally rotted on one end and turned ove and rotted on the other so now kindling stock. Chopping block is waist high for ergonomics. I place the clever one inch from an edge and drive it through repeating until it is all thin slabs. The thin slabs split into one inch squares with a light swing of the cleaver holding one edge. Pieces fall into kindling tote at the base of the chopping block
You've got a nicely dialed in system there Hans, I wouldn't expect anything less from ya!
My method for starting a fire does not require much kindling. I use grease rags to get the wood stove going.
Zelda was trying to say: “Dad you are so smart!🥰”
Or more like 'dad quit blabbing and lets hang out!'
Hi Zelda!!! 😊😊
:)
I do this technique with freshly cut chesnut wood:this is butter
What is even cooler is you can do it with small size logs wich doesn't fit well with your regular size logs
Sounds lovely!
I love hearing Zelda!
So do we :)
Zelda was like, "I wanna play with the axe daddy!"😂😂😂
Yikes! We'll have to keep a little space on that one!
HAPPY BABY noise
I use Hatchet and baton or Leuku and baton but your way looks more expedient.
This moves quickly once you develop the technique
Hi zelda and crew
Baby Zelda sounds like a cat!😂
I call her catbird sometimes :)
Well, the baby liked it, and you still have your fingers where they should be.
Check and check :)
I gave a thumbs up for the baby sounds I originally mistake for a chicken . 😀
A lot of overlap in the sounds :)
💖
Put the small axe on top of the wood, get a thick hammer and beat the top of the axe. That's the way I do it and it produces me a lot of kindling fast.
I definitely appreciate that style as well and have used that for years myself
I use sawed up pallet wood as kindling which I then cut into kindling with a hatchet and hammer. Stuff burns super fast with almost no smoke. Pallets are abundant too, I get them for free.
That girl will be making homemade salsa with Sasha and splitting firewood to dawn with Sean.
Fingers crossed :)
Don't forget to like and subcribe.
is this a reupload?
Nope... You can tell I never re-upload because my hair is more grey with every video :)
I’m spoiled and always have scrap wood from carpentry projects for my kindling
That makes it easy!
Zelda❣️❣️❣️
Algorithmus take this.
Just get a froe
Eh. I appreciate the idea and I have a froe but I'd guess this is 5-10 times faster
Man I thought this was common knowledge… please people, don’t strike with sharp tools towards your hand. Please
