This is Atom Punk. This is the future that people in the 1950s dreamed of, in their movies, books, and comics. Some things don't make sense in their future, because in our own past, we had not thought of them yet, or thought of things very differently, culturally.
@@alexpeters3328 That's a common misconception. But almost all of the lore that you know, came from a computer terminal, and that terminal had microchips in it. As I said, many things are missing, because 1950s people wouldn't have thought of them. That's why the Pip-Boy can do all sorts of things, except make a phone call. There is no internet, etc. They just had never dreamed they would want those things. These elements exist in all Atom Punk games and comics. This is not unique to Fallout.
@@Tijuanabill and that’s actually what technology looked like before transistors. Big and bulky. Plus it says that on the lore websites, like fallout wiki
@@alexpeters3328 No. Things are bulky because in the 1950s everything was made out of steel, because energy was cheap. We ourselves only downsized in the 1970s, because energy became expensive. The excess is supposed to be indicative of a society burning through all their resources, even though nuclear energy greatly expanded their resources. The primary difference is, in this universe, the US is the one with the resources, not the one downsizing. Every computer in the games has microchips in them, which is many many transistors on one tiny chip. Again, what you thought, is a common misconception. I don't want to be rude, but you and I are not the first two humans to have this discussion.
The “explosion” during the battle in Vault 33 is because the film in the projector caught fire. So it’s just projecting the image of the burning film. (I’ve actually seen film burning in a projector, and it does look a bit like that… Obviously exaggerated here since it’s converting the entire “horizon” wall.)
First thing to remember is the show does not shy away from GAME LOGIC, so the stim pack Lucy used from the med kit heals her, by restoring her Health. Many things in Fallout do, so no reality. The vaults are fallout shelters, Vault 33 surface door was IMO in the basement of a building originally. You can see the foundations when Lucy leaves . The giant bag Maximus carries is a nod to the ridiculous inventory of the characters.
In the game, the gun that shot the 'baby leg' was called a "Junk Jet" and it would use anything for ammunition. Always love your reactions! Thanks for sharing!
Now you are young, to those of us growing up during The Cold War that intro is what we feared would happen- every day. But we lived our lives. When I teach my The History of The Cold War classes, I always start by showing them a five minute video of nuclear explosions with eerie music, to make your generation understand what it all was- and what you will have to get used to again with Putoloni's sabre-rattling (though he is too much of a coward to do it). During the Cold War, the USSR was planning to open the war by dropping 600+ merely on my little Denmark. The game is set in an alternative timeline, where the transistor was never invented, so everything used vacuum-tubes like early computers. And thus the timeline starts diverging from ours in the year after WW2, and progress is generally much slower. But there is also no Cuban Missile Crisis, Long Island, etc, and no reckoning with its past, so the US carries on in a sort of Truman-Eisenhower Superamerica with nuclear powered cars, etc. But in the 21st century fossil fuels and other resources starts running out, and The Resource Wars starts; where Europe, Africa and The Middle East is torn apart, and China invades Alaska to get the last remaining oil resource on the planet. And in 2077... Boom. And oh yea, the US turns authoritarian semi-Fascist, a bit like Starship Troopers. Anyway, think of the game and series as set in a sort of retro-futuristic post apocalypse, IE a future as imagined in the fifties, but then add a nuclear exchange of superpowers. In the games you find all those tragic and dark stories as you explore the Wasteland, the series show them, but both do a very good job of what good SciFi should; holding up a dark mirror to humanity- and with Fallout it is really dark.
Well, according to DoD analysts, Putin is considering a tactical nuclear strike for real this time if his new offensive fails. Hopefully this leads to nothing more than a few bombs used and most of the world still intact

I love the writing in general. They're awesome with little and big cliffhangers and also at giving you only as much information as you need to know something's wrong or off but you never know exactly what, until you find out.
I think your confusion, was because you are unfamiliar with the words "Aspirant", and "Squire". These are not names, rather they are titles, Dane and Maximus were both Aspirants....and they were trying to get the position of Squire, which is a title of a Knights assistant in the middle ages. These are medieval titles not used much today...as the Brotherhood of Steel is very much a medieval organization whose make up is Knights (those that where the suits) and Clerics...their religious political leadership.
Lets talk about Falloutt univerce... In the 60s, the world changed... Got more technical, and kept its style, untill the nukes in 2077. Thats why the style is that way. The music, the tech, and stuf...
the world of Fallout is a "what if?" reality where solid-state electronics were never invented. no transistors, no microprocessors, no computers. that's why everything is so big and hands-on: it's all vacuum valves, CRT screens, hard-wired machines, etc. personally, I would have loved to see this version of history... it's just frustrating when a device breaks down and you can't tell where it's broken because nothing tells!

The "Enclave" is a mysterious, ruthless, almost downright evil faction that has committed terrible atrocities and fought the Brotherhood of Steel, the NCR and other groups: most folk have only heard rumours of them or believe them destroyed after the Enclave lost some battles The Enclave is has the most advanced technology and their leaders have little moral scruples (though ordinary folk in the group have defected or shown decency)
"Aspirant" is a rank in the Brotherhood of Steel. His friend was Aspirant Dane. The other people who blamed Maximus were Aspirants as well. Maximus was an Aspirant until he got promoted to Squire. So, Maximus is now Squire Maximus. The soldier in the Power Armor is a Knight and Squires serve knights. Maximus is serving Knight Titus as his Squire.

"What's in a Stimpak that makes it work so well?" "Health"

The gene pool in a vault after 200 years is limited, hence the marriages into other vaults. There are 122 Vaults across the America.
