Do you want to know why tape spills out when playback is on? That's because supply spindle turns clockwise and take-up spindle doesn't work anymore from broken capstan belt which connects capstan to pulley near take-up spindle. I think Aiwa FX7500 VCR is old and cannot be repaired.
I have this exact problem and yes it is the takeup reel that isn't moving and it is definitely because of the white plastic gears in the middle of the reels. I'm still trying to remove them so I can attempt a repair, with little luck so far - i have no idea how to take them apart
Hi, EastAngliaUK, I have exact the same behavior of my aiwa 7500. Did you fixed the problem by now? What was it? The belt? Greetings from germany, chattanoooga
A typical reason the tape is eaten up is that take-up spindle doesn't move, it's hard. It must be removed first and then cleaned or oiled. On the way I think some problems with wheels underneath the mechanism by look of it. They might need to be cleaned, too. I even don't know if I'm wrong or right because I have had no such problems with my VCRs.
I don't know if that is the mode select switch problem Franklin but, good news I know the black rubber band needs replace on the Aiwa so we can fix it, Yes we can!
Oh, I mistaked! Tape spills out when playback is on because of broken teeth on the take-up spindle underneath by looking of it. I don't think that this old Aiwa FX7500 VCR can be repaired.
Better late than never? I had the same thing with an FX8500 and one of the white nylon cog wheels at the front centre (underneath the half moon) was split from the hole outwards to the cog teeth. A combination of super glue and soldering iron sealed it up (keep it under pressure whilst sealing it) so the teeth match up. Also I couldn't quite work out why the spring to the right of the take up spool cog wasn't inserted into a hole but it's the same on this one and all works o.k. now
Too late but it seems that there is stuck brakes on take-up wheel or a clutch failure.
The takeup reel is not moving forward, and is slow and noisy in rewind. So it looks like a worn-out gear or belt on the takeup reel.
Problem on the take up reel. Might also be a bad sensor or dirty mode switch (check belts)

I wonder if they will be many left like 10 years from now and still going to?

Have you succeed to repair your Aiwa VCR ?
Do you find the trouble in it ?
Why did the broken VCR eating tapes?
I now have a Samsung hifi video I should make another video bit behind on them.
Idler is worn out. I do not think there is a way to buy a new idler for these models...

Did your VCR tries to eat your tapes? because the belts are slipping.
Its not that because when he put the VCR into reverse search, it turned with no problem. The idler was broken.
It's getting to be a wise guy!
I think its still in the garage so will have to try it again.
I don't think that broken capstan belt can be replaced.

Looks like the Mode Encoder Switch is oxidized and needs cleaning located under the chassis on the Circuit Board that should take care of the problem.
Cracked gear on the reel clutch. Extremely common with this garbage VCR mechanism that's actually manufactured by Samsung.
I have another vcr now yes its a Samsung stereo one but at least it plays tapes if needed.
vcr mode switch problem .changenewone.
Will have a look later its a shame you don't live in Essex or I could have given this video to you for nothing.
Put it in fast forward :-)
i see a hook spring popped off on the far right take up real, open your eyes people, learn a thing or two, vcrs are not that difficult to fix.
Check the wheels from the sistem drive because the problem is there....sistem doesn`t work properly. Teegee777 said wright !!
