- Follow along as we make a 5-color reduction woodcut print.
There are a lot of ways to make prints, but this is the way I go about it, and I hope you enjoy it!
This video goes step by step through the full process of making a reduction woodcut print. I printed this block using Speedball Pro - Water based relief ink, and Arnhem paper. If you're interested in purchasing one of these, or any of my other prints, check out the shop! www.diodepress....
As always, let me know if you have any questions in the comments and I'll be happy to answer!

Dude…. Right on the money. Getting into this new…. And this by far is THE BEST HOW TO!!! Thanks for post.
Wow! I used to do woodcarving and that looked like it took some time to do. Those turned out awesome. I’m a origami artist now and plan I’m using what I have learned on here to step up my art. Thank you for putting so much work into this channel.
Origami is awesome, and I'd imagine a huge opportunity to incorporate with print! The carving definitely took some time, but I did my best to edit out the hours of footage! Thanks for watching!
At the 7 (ish) minute mark - you use what looks like a straight blade to gauge the block. What knife is are you using and where can I get it? I am teaching myself woodcut from watching videos. My plan is to print t shirts. Learning is a bit of a challegne and process.
so beautiful! I love the print and it is very inspiring to watch the process. Every time you post a video at your channel it is a "YaaaY" moment for me :-)
Thanks so much, I really appreciate it! I have a lot of videos in the works also!
So perfect👍
cool. thanks.
Your plywood is so much cleaner than mine is in-between each print run! What kind of spray-sealer did you use? Do you think that it affects the appearance of the woodgrain or color on the print?
I think I used a clear acrylic spray sealer for woodworking on this one. After it dries, I gave it a light sanding with 400grit to smooth it out. It does get rid of almost all wood-grain, which I'm ok with, but the colors were not effected.
Diode Press - I bought a quart (life time supply) of shellac based on another recommendation. It works really well and dries super fast. Also needs a a light 400 grit before inking up.
Awesome! Sorry for the long delay in responding!
Great video.Thank you. What press are you using in this video?
David Collett I don’t know the exact one he’s using but I found ones very similar by looking up tabletop etching press.
Thanks! I’m using a Richeson “Baby Press”, Dick Blick has a very similar model as well.
@@DiodePress Thanks!
beautiful !! ;-)
How did you clean your block?
what printing press do you use ?
Nice work. What type of wood do you use for woodcuts?
This was Baltic birch plywood, but I prefer Shina Ply most of the time (I get it from McClains printmaking). Thanks for checking out the video!
