  • Crab Xec Xec is one of the first dishes you will think about the minute you see crabs. Crabmeat by itself is delicate, soft, and sweet.
    Crab Xec Xec made by roasting a few spices; makes for a flavorsome spicy thick gravy that coats the crabs with its deliciousness. Served with hot steamed rice.

    Preparation time: 10 minutes
    Cook Time: 20 minutes
    Recipe serving: 5 persons
    Ingredients
    Crabs - 6 to 8 nos
    Coconut Oil - 2 tbsp
    Onion - 1 medium; sliced finely
    Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp
    Tamarind - lime sized ball in 1/2 cup hot water
    Salt - To taste
    Coriander leaves - To garnish
    For the masala ( roast and grind)
    Freshly grated coconut - 1 cup
    Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
    Onion - 1 medium roughly chopped
    Kashmiri chilies - 9 to 10 nos ( deseed 5 chilies for less spicy)
    Peppercorns - 10 nos
    Cloves - 6 nos
    Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
    Coriander seeds - 2 tbsp
    Notes :
    1. Roast the coconut, onion, chilies, and whole spices carefully, and do not burn them.
    2. Once crabs are added to the pot cook for just 2 to 3 minutes and follow by adding the masala
    3. The longer the crabs cook in the masala the more flavourful the Xec Xec will be
    4. Take care not to cook for longer than the stated time as the crab meat is very soft and might get too mushy in the gravy.
