Nice cuts!! You could try gently hitting the bottom of the trunk with a hammer to get it to fatten up with the resulting scar tissue. It's worked on a spruce of mine!
Should look better in the future, Anyhoo just writting a message to say have a great Christmas mate. Oh and whatha hell your growing dreads, Well i guess it was coming hehe, I use to have them ;)
Precioso Literati. Con sus vídeos se aprende a ver el diseño antes de cortar las ramas. Intento adivinar qué rama cortará usted y a veces acierto 😊 mil gracias.
I reckon you made the right choice. Drastic, sure, but now all energy goes into moving the design forward. Commit to your design choice and go for it, I like it, right up my alley haha.
But just BTW when you do big cuts at pine trees it is better to leave stump becouse water flow is changed and tree is in big shock and in that stump for some time water is still flowing that direction, so the tree is getting used to it.
You made me sweat! I mean I agreed with the choice, but I don't think I would be brave enough to do that! I need another cup of tea... Great video Nigel!😄😨
Will taking that tip off potentially kill that branch? or will scotts pine push new buds? i wasnt sure if cutting the buds off the tip will mean no more growth and produce die back. I love this tree so much.
Okay Nigel, DO GET UPSET! Try this on for size..."The Stick-In-The-Pot Zone"...I'm just sayin'...You seem to be trending towards this approach...Or maybe "The Chop Shop"...Just give you a ribbing...How about "Have Scissors will Prune"...I'm kidding, kidding around...Your techniques speak for themselves and your trees are amazing. If it were not for your example I would not have had the courage to remove the top 2/3's of a pair tree I purchased at the farmer's market this weekend (It was a single straight 4 foot stalk)...Thanks for you humor and sharing...
Hi Nigel, Ive wanted to ask, when you look for images of adult specimen trees to base your styling off, is there a particular resource you use or website you go to? I struggle to find good images to study.
Hi I love your videos! But I think that if you used a little wiring for the main structure you would save many years of cutting each branch so much, I know it's not your style, it's just an opinion 👍🏾
Whenever I'll need to make some major cuts on my bonsai , I'll watch this video again for motivation 😂
Big bold cuts - but definitely the right decision! 👍🐦💙
Wow. That was drastic. Had shivers watching you cut those branches.😮 can't wait to see this tree develop in the future.
trees will tell horror stories about this day for generations🤣awesome vid! makes the cut i did on my pine seem much much less drastic!
Gutsi move! Would have loved some wire on there though!

What a truly beautiful literati this tree will become.
Love the Scot’s pine-can’t wait to see the progress.
I am always amazed that removing branches opens up more possibilities. Seems backwards, somehow! I am loving where this one is going.
Wow. Big decision…. and a good one 👩🏻🌾🪴
quite beautiful..it makes me inspired
it really was the only decision if you want a good literati. nicely done
Right at 11.36 - 11.40 it looks like a lady with a umbrella..!!! Awesome..!!! Luvit

You are a really brave man Nigel. Far braver than I am or will ever be. can't wait to see this tree in the future.
Wow that was brutal! But i understand the logic, the future is bright. 😊 will be amazing in a few years.
I just started my own channel. I’m doing it to thank people like you that have taught me things. Thank you Nigel and cheers from Ojai California
But you started your channel 9 years ago. Why lying ?
Created channel date might not reflect when @OjaiBonsai and 'started' uploading to their channel. Big difference.
Awesome, risk brings rewards Nigel! Gday from Aus!
i love it nuff said!

Brave cuts, but I like the style.
I hope everything will recover well!
I think that was a good choice, a difficult one. But it'll look fantastic
I stopped the vodeo to have I cigarette :D I really needed that!
Nice thoughts on the reason for keeping the one branch. Your thought process about it was easy to under. Excellent!!!

I love this tree so much.
Any chance you’d leave the tree out for winter? Or rather a ponderosa
