    love your videos so much, you've helped me boost my literature grade from a 6 to an 8. I was wondering if you could make a video on the aqa short story anthology, as I'm struggling to find resources and it's my weakest part of the exam
    thank you!

    How would the answer change if the topic was "to what extent is Macbeth responsible for his downfall?"

    • @MrSallesTeachesEnglish
      @MrSallesTeachesEnglish Год назад +2

      It is EXACTLY the same question in different words. So you wouldn’t need to change your answer at all.

      @@MrSallesTeachesEnglish Oh I'm sorry - I didn't make my question clear enough.
      The topic is "to what extent is Macbeth PRESENTED as responsible for his downfall." - I worry this undermines the points about society because would the Jacobean audience not have similar views about violence and masculinity as is portrayed in Macbeth, at least to some extent? If that is so, how could Macbeth's downfall be PRESENTED as society's responsibility?

    • @MrSallesTeachesEnglish
      @MrSallesTeachesEnglish Год назад +2

      @@KenzyAli I see. Society in 1605 was very different to 1050 AD Scotland, when Macbeth is set. The very concept of a theatre, or a playwright, or self made business men who weren’t either members of a guild or a merchant or a soldier, would have been unthinkable in the that time, where your status was pretty much determined at birth. I could go on about the 100s of ways England was different after 1066. So yes, you could still write about society’s view differing from the society portrayed in the play.
