Hi Terry thanks for your video sharing of pruning durian trees from 1 to 3 years. Your trees are so healthy looking. I have 2 durian farms and they are not well taken care of. 1 farm the trees are 7 yrs old budgrated musang King type. A lot of sick trees. 2nd farm 30 yr old trees with a mix of different species. Hope to meet you in Thailand. I use to go to the south surat.

Great tutorial Terry, may I suggest its maybe possible to bend and tie the branches to the side when they are young to avoid that stacking and in time they take that shape. It all depending on how close they are.

Yes 50 cm is the number I use .
Hey Terry quick one I have just purchase 3 rai of moontong in the Rayong area they are 3 years old they did not been maintain for a while when is the best timeframe to do the heavy pruning especially building the scaffold and the height lastly the small pruning removing smaller branches or new one best time frame or can be done over the years. @@EricMarcotte-g6e the time you don't want to prune is during the hot season . You can prune now before the rain stops . This gives it time to recover with ideal weather conditions

I'm thinking of growing durian trees on a few rai of land in Prakhonchai, Buriram. Assuming we have a well with unlimited water and had irrigation set up- Would it be possible to have a successful durian farm even with the heat? It's been regularly getting up to 106F during the day in the hottest months. Would Monthong durian be successful to grow there or is there a more heat-tolerant variety we would have better luck with? Thanks! -future expat(and husband to Thai wife)
Thai varieties are more heat tolerant. Out of the Thai varieties I found that Monthong was the best from experience . I would definitely go with monthong . Good luck 👍 happy planting 🙏

If I was to do it again I would buy an existing farm that produces right away .
You should not prune too much. Durian bears fruit on horizontal branches, not slightly upward. With branches slightly upward, you should leave secondary branches, which will produce a lot of fruit.
