My guess is Radical thought the old school death animations were classics and an integral part of the game, but since you cant exactly...die that easy in the game, they made dying a thing to find. It's...ironically ambitious
Pretty much, yeah. The whole game was really ambitious; the mix of platforming, racing, and mini-games was because it tried to be a reimagined version of the main series, CTR, and Bash simultaneously, to celebrate Crash Bandicoot as a whole. It just failed because Radical very obviously didn't understand the world or characters.
I honestly really like the Die-o-rama's. They remind me a lot of the old Looney Toons shorts from the 40's and 50's which is what served as the main inspiration for Crash's mannerisms and slapstick nature. It's a nice little call back
6:13 always gets me. The way his scream cuts off as the bomb builds up energy for a delayed explosion, it’s a looney tunes-esque feeling 💀 EDIT: that delayed explosion also gives you more time to realize he’s probably like _oh sh-_ and then yeah

But If you spin Stew again after doing it once, it won't trigger again until a loading scene elsewhere is activated (playing a race, minigame, or leaving the hub). The rest of the die-o-ramas can be done immediately over and over without leaving or going into a loading screen. This one is the only exception probably to hear Stew's dialogue wheh he is abused by Crash.
This is truly where the Radical team got to use Crash to bring out their huge love of classic animation! Real treat seeing Crash get into some Looney Tunes/Tom & Jerry-like situations.

Every time I go back to the memories of this game, for some reason, I can't help to remember it with hyper realistic, beautiful shaded and texturized graphics. Maybe it's the nostalgia from old good times that makes it so glorious to remember.

I really loved games like this where it's less about the graphics or ambitious goals and more about just finding things, whether it's just for simple amusement and comedy like the Die-O-Ramas and Gags or to have an effect on the gameplay like the secret shortcuts.
I love how a good portion of the Die-O-Ramas are caused by Crash just being stupid. Like, what did he think was going to happen by spinning into those explosives?

Skeletons are dope so I always liked the ones that involved crash's skeleton. The one with the tree falling is really similar to those "perfectly cut screams" videos; great timing makes a great joke. The Yeti ones were always kind of disturbing but what really got me was the cannonball ripping a hole through his chest. Even compared to the rest that one is just brutal. Damn.

Typhoon Lex Chick and Stew are already featured, as well as some skins and karts, and with the Grand Prix now a thing, characters and tracks from the game will be added in the future.
My favorite Crash game, the way they made how the open world map interactions can change the Race trial maps made me want to unlock everything a watch every cutscene.
My favorite die-o-rama is the one where Crash spins into Stew, gets smushed, and then kicked. I always found that one pretty funny, especially the "bawk" sound Stew makes.
This was my childhood. Only racing game that rivals it for me is CTR, and that’s just because it’s the two before this in one plus Spyro. Only thing I can hope for now is a Twinsanity remake. That game was actually quite great... and a bit weird.
