- Arcade & Attica 4-6-0 14 in operation on the Arcade, New York railroad in 1971. This former Escanaba & Lake Superior ten-wheeler puts on a good show operating through the scenic line in western New York between Arcade and Curriers.
The Arcade & Attica Railroad began steam tourist operation in 1962 with 2-8-0 18. With rides quickly proving popular, engine 14 was acquired in 1963. Both locomotives would operate regularly for the next 20 years, with 14 exiting service in the 1980s. With a decades long gap in service, this footage of 14 in operation is considerably hard to find. Engine 18 still sees occasional service in the decades following. Arcade & Attica is still active today, long using GE switchers on tourist trains and freight service.
This Super 8mm footage was taken in August 1971 by John Filson. It is provided from the Western Railway Museum, and was converted and edited by Hunter Lohse.
What a lovely film! I remember catching a glimpse of 14 when I went to the A&A in 2017, which is funny as it was one of 18's last runs before she had to go down for some rather intense maintenance. The A&A have stated that they would like to get 14 back in service, although I've heard 14 is in very poor mechanical condition. I'd love to see 14 back in service again, after they finish 18's restoration of course
I never would've known about 14 if it wasn't for this video. Did all The A&A Engines carry The whistle 18 Had?
Both 14 and 18 have worn that CN 4 chime, yes.
Always love seeing vintage footage come to light. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed
Thank you for the historical video of the ARCADE & ATTICA RAILROAD. It was very interesting to learn something about this railway company. Thank you for showing and best regards
Glad you enjoyed
Good to see another Ten Wheeler in operation
Enjoyed watching the vintage captures of Arcade & Attica 14 👍
Glad you enjoyed it

Glad you enjoyed
Cool 😊
Great Classic Footage of A&A 14!
Glad you enjoyed it
Kind of ironic. I drove right by this during the week. Had to do a double take. Can’t wait to see steam on it again.
You're becoming one of my favourite channels on YT. Love me some dandy locos, yessir.
Glad you enjoy, more content is coming regularly
Amazing footage! Is this footage for sale on DVD?
Not at this time, we have not assembled enough to sell a full feature. These are likely to be RUclips exclusives through the cooperation of Hunter Lohse and the Western railway museum
Is 14 still running?
No. 14 last ran in the 1980’s and is currently in storage.
@@BenBensonStudiosI hope it gets restored
They’re working on 2-8-0 18 right now.
I remember enjoying a ride on this train when I was about ten years old. We sat in an open car where I could see and hear the engine. A fun day.
When do they ever decide on restoring 14?
When they have the money
pls to Carroll Park & Western
If we ever obtain footage of it, it will end up here. We get what we get when it comes to these archival films, unfortunately.
