You Know! I often wonder what “New” Move, Lift, Music, or Dance that Katia & Sergei, or their Coach would Create. Because their Program’s were alway So Unique and Perfect. Oh Boy!, do I wish that we could See G&G Dance Together Again. G&G!!! you are So Desperately Missed.
I feel privileged to have been able to follow this beautiful couple - from just children all the way through adulthood, to winning Gold in 1988 and 1994 Olympics, to winning Jrs and Worlds numerous times, to falling in love, marrying, and becoming parents....and every accomplishment and beautiful performance in between. I will ALWAYS remember the incomparable G & G...til the day I die.

It pains to see Sergie and know he is gone never to skate again with the love of his life his dearest Katia and see his lovechild Dasha grow into a beautiful lady who looks so much like him. Absolutely they were simply magical! Never to be repeated. I fell in love with them early in their career. Sadness fills me to this day because Sergei died so soon! Amazing Katia her steel courage and wonderful mother too! 😪🌷♥️
Me too! I’m a year older than Katia. I saw them skate Tour of Champions after the 1994 Olympics and as luck would have it, that same afternoon was televised by CBS as Artistry on Ice. I saw the same Porgy and Bess number that you see on TV-and we all went “ohhhh” when he kissed her at the end. Devastated when he died the next year.
I miss G&G. I wonder what they would be doing today. I KNOW FOR A FACT they would still be together and had the three kids Sergei wanted. Poor Katia and Daria always look like there is something missing from them. We all know what/who it is. XoxoX
If this was 1986, they weren’t “falling in love” yet. Wasn’t until AFTER the 1988 Olympics. I think Katia said it was on New Years Eve 1988 that they shared their very first kiss. And yes, what a BEAUTIFUL story (and life) these two shared...💞
What's amazing here is that, with the exception of the Caravan part in the beginning, they had completely overhauled the entire program with new music, in the weeks that preceded this--and they still skated this convincingly. @cahmillex, I think they successfully and easily completed a 4Tw at Skate Canada earlier that season, but this was a triple.
I think that was when they were being coached by that Zhuk guy. I've read My Sergei several times, and Katia describes that program as one she absolutely hated. Both she and Sergei hated Zhuk. He was what I'd call the Coach from Hell, heavy drinker, sexual pervert, and just all around bad coach, with super weird ideas. Katia said that when she and Sergei were standing on the podium receiving their medals, she was wondering why they were giving them the medals. That was also their first senior level world championship, too. It gave her no satisfaction and she cried afterwards. Don't blame her in the least, I would probably feel the same way if I was dealing with that. They did this program very well, but when they were waiting for their marks, I noticed she was biting her lip, as if she was trying to keep from crying even then. Sergei seemed to recoil when Zhuk was patting him on the back, like don't touch me, you sleazebag! And, is it just me, or did it seem like their smiles were forced as they were being given the medals?
На этом ЧМ лучше всех откатали Селезнёва и Макаров. А арбитры их поставили на 4 место под бурный шум трибун от возмущенных зрителей. А Валова и Васильев с их прокатом вообще не должны быть на пьедестале. А судьи им подарили 2 место.

Селезнёву и Макарова демонстративно игнорировали, хотя они были сильнейшими в мире, показывая революционное катание. В истории фигурного катания это не редкость. Выбираются персонажи, или интересные для прессы, или имеющие какой-то блат, и раскручиваются. Вспомним Роднину - «Остановилась музыка!» Понятно, что сам Жук посодействовал, чтобы эту музыку остановили. Для пиара своей пары. И так ему удалась эта шумиха, что до сих пор мусолят тему с музыкой. Или Бережная - Сихарулидзе. Регулярно ошибались, им дарились первые места, называли пару «сильнейшей». А самых лучших Петрову - Тихонова в упор не замечали. Можно вспомнить и Алёну Савченко с притянутыми за уши победами и т.д. и т.п.
