The thing that makes me LOL is that Triton IS a god!!!!! In Greek mythology. And the son of the Greek god Poseidon in Greek mythology, the next thing he says!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
fun fact: Triton is actually a God, in Greek mythology Triton is the son of Poseidon. Triton is king of the ocean because control over it was given to him by his father
Fun fact: Poseidon is related to God/Heracles dad and you know how Hades is brother to god/Heracles dad and Poseidon son is Triton and Triton's daughter is Ariel and God/Heracles dad son is Heracles so that makes Ariel and Heracles 3rd cousins⊙▪⊙.
Have you looked into the theory that Tomatoa was an owner of the magic lamp? Being he a scavenger, he found the lamp. It would also explain why the Genie said, "Your a lot smaller than my last master." It's really interesting!
Even with the thousand year span, the timing still doesn't add up. The directors based the movie off an actual period in Polynesian history where all exploration and voyaging was halted for roughly 1000 years before picking up again. That was about 3000 years ago, meaning that Moana takes place about 2000 years ago, while The Little Mermaid takes place in like the 1600s-ish.
also keep in mind that Maui knew of Tamatoa previous to his exile on that island. Thus Tamatoa existed prior to the halt of exploration, and the timing is all completely invalid
Furthermore about timing; In the opening prologue of the movie Tamatoa is trying to get the Heart of Tefiti WHILE Tefiti is still around and while the people of the island are still exploring. This proves even more so the timing doesn't add up. If I had to guess I would assume Ursula and Tamatoa would probably know each other because well...evil, near immortal God-like beings but I don't believe they're the same person.
Altrenative Theory: Tamatoa IS Sebastian, as in "Shiny" he says, "Now Tamatoa hasn't always been this glam, I was a drab little crab once." This could easily be referring to Sebastian, and it could be another reason why he knows about him at the post credits scene. It's because he WAS Sebastian! (But hey, that's just a theory, a commentor's theory!)
5:15 Tamatoa, Ursula, Yzma, Maleficent, Randall, Dr. Facilier, Dave, Crazy Minions, Celia, Queen Grimhilde, Tempest... I don't think that's a shock. Movie villains seem to have a habit of being purple.
NAJ Twirtlaw lol have u even seen finding nemo? crush the hreen sea turtle is 150 years old... so the turtle in moana is crush.... think before u speak: )
NAJ Twirtlaw I don't think Disney always uses the most believable traits when it comes to animals (Heihei shallows a stone that should have killed it). I agree in real life a green sea turtle would live that long, but Crush literally tells Marlin that is how old he is. I am guessing they are using leatherback tutle age with a green sea turtles look. As far as the way he talks, I don't find this to be an issue because it's a turtle talking. How do we know what accent they carry?
Actually I believe he was just sort of talking to himself or to HeiHei, sort of just self-narrating. Seeing that he has been stuck on the island for quite a while it isn't a far stretch to say that he may have gotten into a habit of this type.
Only one huge flaw with this theory, Tamatoa like all coconut crabs has 10 legs. The final two legs are used for different purposes depending on the gender of the crab but generally relate to mating and releasing eggs, these two legs are held inside the crabs abdomen and are unable to be seen normally unless you witness them using them or dissect them, and with that your theory is null and void, good day.
Tamatoa is also not a coconut crab. He doesn't have the right shape to be one. Coconut crabs are just a giant species of hermit crab, and a hermit crab without a shell has a very specific look. They have a long tubular abdomen that normally holds them in their shells, but coconut crabs get too big to fit in any shells, so they just kinda tuck it under themselves. We see Tamatoa flipped over, and he does not have this tubular abdomen. He also has a pair of flattened back legs, which swimming crabs have but nonswimming crabs, like hermit crabs (and by extension, coconut crabs) lack. Ergo, he is not a coconut crab.
DapperDragon This same guy said tamatoa is actually a coconut crab so, you are incorrect. Tamatoa even fits the criteria for coconut crabs. 10 legged, collects shiny things, isolated and he even fits the shape of one.

"
I don’t know if you’re being sarcastic or not but nah, he says he wasn’t glam until he met Maui, so he can’t be Ursula since shes been that way from the start. Also, little mermaid is set in the 1800’s, way after the time in which Moana takes place.
or what if he was ursulas grandson? because after showed intrest in moanas necklace he said he ate his grandma and it took forever because she was absoultly humongous....and ursula was definantly humongous when she died.
In the novelization of the film, Tamatoa states that he ate both of his grandparents. I don't recall Ursula having any husband or kids before she died. maybe Ursula ate her grandparents... I'm gonna have to rewatch the little mermaid.
Sara Anderson that's true but tomatoa would of had to eat ursula and then die also after ursula died then he could of ate her cus he couldent eat her when ursula was alive
That makes more sense that it seems to on the surface. Tamatoa did not say that he killed and ate his grandmother. He only said that he ate her. Crabs of all sorts are know to be carrion feeders. After Prince Eric killed Ursula it only makes sense that something would have eaten her. Nature is fussy about not letting things like fresh corpses go to waste.
Kevin Anderson Lolo uhhh i think you mean great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great grandfather
It's an interesting theory, except for a few things: First going back to the timeline theory, in the span of 1000 years, depending on the when in time this happened, then there would have been some influence from European explorers who sailed through the Pacific. In the case of the Little Mermaid, i say it it set between the 1600's-1700's, then again it is a fairy tale and time and what century it is is irrelevant. But, by the time the Europeans came around to the Pacific, all the islands were inhabited by the Polynesians, So before Ursula would have been killed in the Little Mermaid. Also an image of Tamatoa is seen in the prologue when Gramma Tala is telling the story; he's one of the monsters who sought Te Fiti's heart. He was around 1000 years prior to the beginning and even long before that, because Maui and Tamatoa crossed paths when Maui ripped off his leg and he would have needed his hook for that. Second and not as big as a critique, but directors and studios love to reference past work and movies. Maui momentarily changes into Sven from Frozen, even though Musker and Clements never directed it, it's still a character from Disney, so of course Sven would get a cameo. the Genies lamp can be seen on Tamatoa's shell and Musker and Clements directed Aladdin, of course they would have that Easter egg put in. And most of all, Genie's lead animator hand animated Mini-Maui. Disney likes to throw easter eggs and references from past projects in their movies, so Tamatoa speaking of Sebastian, a fellow crab, is meant as a jab or joke. It's like Spider-man referencing Empire Strikes back (Now that Disney owns Star Wars); while it's fun to think or entertain that all the Disney movies are part of one massive universe, it's all just for fun. And thirdly, While Tamatoa's name sound similar to Taotao Mo'na, that is not how Tamatoa got his name. His name in Maori literally means 'Trophies' and his obsession with shiny and magical objects is proof. Maui himself said it: 'He's a scavenger. He collects stuff, thinks it make him look cool.' So, I'll entertain the idea that Tamatoa may be Ursula's incarnation, I don't think that's the case here.
I prefer the idea that Tamatoa and Maui had been allies in the past, searching for the Heart, and towards the end of their journey, Tamatoa turned on Maui, stealing his hook and trying to use its power, turning himself into a crab, and he never used the hook again, as he was scared of turning into something less useful. And, well, their battle ended with Maui defeating Tamatoa, but he kept both the Heart and the Hook.
Also, in Shiny, Tamatoa said this line: "Shiny, like the treasure from a sunken pirate wreck." This implies that: 1: Tamatoa knows what a pirate ship is, which shouldn't be possible if Moana took place before The Little Mermaid. 2: He might have used that specific expression because he had an experience with a pirate ship himself, possibly in a past life. Note that there is a pirate wreck in The Little Mermaid. So, he could have been referencing that wreck, further supporting the idea that he's Ursula.
Corey Brown avatar and moana are two completely different things and reincarnation rules might differ but the only thing that reincarnated was that one white spirit and it was only possible because of that the person in the past life has nothing the do with the next one
This completely wrecks my theory of Tamatoa being Sebastian's half brother that didn't get enough attention from their mother while Sebastian got all da love so Tamatoa tried to make himself more powerful and important than his brother by becoming as big and shiny as possible and also steal the heart of Tefity or however you spell that junk, which would be why he says that if he was Sebastian you would totally help him.
LEGO Boi actually you might he right, because maui ripped off tamatoa's leg 1000 years ago, so he is OLD, he existed before ursula died, so he might be her brother, or even father
yo! person who mentioned that Riley was possibly adopted. I got a Moana theory you might like. Ok, so I'm pretty sure Moana and her family are descendents of Te Fiti. A) Moana and Te Fiti are practically identical B) her grandma has way too much knowledge on the heart, it's like she is deliberately telling Moana these stories as a toddler to enforce a duty plus she turns into a manta ray and comes back as a spirit to tell moana she needs to continue on C) Moana shows signs of these mystical powers when she steps into the cave and gers a vision telling her everything about her tribes past D) both moana ' s Dad and grandma have this intense craving for the ocean too. Her grandma just goes along with it but doesn't do anything and her dad only stopped going to the ocean because his friend died. Which also says something because the ocean clearly didn't want the friend going along but her dad does survive. E) I did some research and even though the goddess Te Fiti is based on -pele - doesn't have kids, she did have a mortal sister.
The grandmother in the dark glows but in the light she looks like a normal stingray and when tamtoea is in the dark he lights (and when the shell closes) up like the grandmother did and he also looks normal in light
odog396 but tomatoes can control which part of him glows because he made his antenna have a moving pink stripe pattern so if he covered himself in the glowing stuff he wouldn't be able to control it
oh no Mauna 2 : Ursula/Tamatoa finds a potion the potion is a reberth potion she/he uses it to turn back to Ursua Mauna also finds a potion a shapeshifting potion She turns into mermaid Ursula dies because of a fricking boat like if you agree
Well it could be a vague reference of just being a boring crab with little to show. Not little in size, considering the movie proves that reincarnation turn them instantly into full-grown animals. Just a speculation.
Fun theory. Completely bogus though. Moana's story line takes place approximately 3000 years ago. Whereas the Little Mermaid storyline MIGHT be as many as 200 or even 300 years ago. So, even in the cartoon world, theories about reincarnation don't work.
Agreed. Even using architecture and technology doesn't really work, given they're two completely different cultures in totally different hemispheres. And Ursula's necklace? It's literally a shell that naturally curls in on itself into that shape. This was the longest reach I've seen next to some Game Theory vids.
I like the idea of their being a reincarnation angle for tamatoa, and I can see the argument for Ursula but I too struggle with the fact that Tomatoa has been around for over 1,000 years. Let me offer an alternative possibility what if he was originally Jafar. The timing would work better in regards to the 1,000 years and it could also explain some of tomotoas treasure's. Plus as Jafar was essentially a wizard of sorts it would stand to reason he could know other magical beings regardless of a time gap explaining the little mermaid references.
yesss! not to mention, he's very vain like Ursula, they both have a very similar song, she breaks the 4th wall too by saying "Pathetic to her eels", AND very raspy voices! love this theory!! obsessed!
Aisling I think that the sabatian thing was because of him, he has opeanly said that his favorite disney movie was the little mermaid, and i do not belive it has to do with the theory
D Faria in the very beginning where Moana was a baby that shell was the was the first thing that the ocean gave to her if you didn't notice I looked at the print and it was the exact same in which I don't know if she remembered that stuff or anything but it was exact same rock or shell
I think Tamatoa is actually Maui's twin, and that's why Maui is abandoned, because Tamatoa is the 'Alpha Twin' and they did not want him. The gods cursed the rest of Maui's family, turning them into coconut crabs and banishing them of to the realm of monsters.
I hate it so much when people say that Te Ka is the villain of Moana. Sure she is the main antagonist but she definitely isn't a villain, Tamatoa on the other hand is for sure a Villain, but also just the secondary antagonist. Te Ka was just a Te Fiti who lost control of her head and body thanks to the loss of her heart. Plus Disney themselves even consider Tamatoa to be the villain of the film, with him being featured in events and on the 'Villains' section of the Official Disney Wiki, while Te Ka remains absent the whole time.
hey supercarlinbrothers. I want to put up an interesting point for when at about 1:50 or so, you were talking about how tomatoa (excuse spelling) and the grandma were both reincarnated, but the grandma glowed and he didn't. Well, technically he did. when she was glowing, it was at night and it was dark. during his song, he hit the wall and caused a shell to close off the entrance at the top, blocking the light. he then started to glow purple.. along with all his treasure glowing what color? blue! so, maybe they only glow in the dark? makes sense to me
something i noticed; the manta ray actually only glows during the night scenes, but in the day, it seemed like an ordinary manta ray. tamatoa actually doesn't start glowing until he closes the 'skylight'.
Wait. The music was written by broadway star and perfect human alive Lin-Manuel Miranda, who is also doing the music for the live action Little Mermaid. Boom
The Egg I would personally say that if he wasn't Ursula, Then he knew who she was. The fact that these writers were the same for both movies just explains how he knew who Sebastian was, but not much else.
We kind of know when Moana takes place, the story was written as something of an explanation for why the Polynesian people stopped wayfinding for about 1000 years, an event which ended shortly before Hawaii was settled for the first time somewhere between the 11th and 14th centuries, well before the timeline of The Little Mermaid.
Yes, Maui chopped off one of Tamatoa's legs, but that changes nothing, you can still see half of the leg he chopped off

Tamatoa is a coconut crab, which has 10 legs, with the hindmost pair being hidden and used for cleaning their breathing organs, mating and for taking care of their eggs.
If you'd looked up decapods, you'd know that the coconut crab is a decapod, and it's back two legs are very small and concealed within the shell as they're generally only used in reproduction. I don’t know if you’re being sarcastic or not but nah, he says he wasn’t glam until he met Maui, so he can’t be Ursula since shes been that way from the start. Also, little mermaid is set in the 1800’s, way after the time in which Moana takes place.
"U lost to a boat" 😂😂😂
or what if he was ursulas grandson? because after showed intrest in moanas necklace he said he ate his grandma and it took forever because she was absoultly humongous....and ursula was definantly humongous when she died.
So true!!!
In the novelization of the film, Tamatoa states that he ate both of his grandparents.
I don't recall Ursula having any husband or kids before she died.
maybe Ursula ate her grandparents... I'm gonna have to rewatch the little mermaid.
true but she she definantly good at seducing men like prince eric. perhaps his grandfather was a previous victim.
We all know who Tamatoa really is, it’s Schrafilla Productions.
Yes
Well it's kinda like being king of Earth and dying in an earthquake
Not even. If she died to a tidal wave then that would be equivalent but its more like the king of earth being hit and killed by a car 😂
Blub bree no a RV but still
@@blubbree2263 Makes sense.
Tamatoa = Mr. Krabs confirmed
DilbugAnimations 😂😂😂😂
DilbugAnimations lol
DilbugAnimations 😮
but, are you feeling it?
OKAY
Tamatoa is Mr.crabs father 🦀
Kevin Anderson Lolo uhhh i think you mean great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great grandfather
why does that actually make sense.
It makes sense because mr. Krabs loves gold and tamatoa Love's gold so maybe he is mr. Krabs
Yaaaaaaaaaas
Kevin Anderson Lolo we have to send this to Shane Dawson he will make it a conspiracy theory video

It's an interesting theory, except for a few things:
First going back to the timeline theory, in the span of 1000 years, depending on the when in time this happened, then there would have been some influence from European explorers who sailed through the Pacific.
He collects stuff, thinks it make him look cool.'
So, I'll entertain the idea that Tamatoa may be Ursula's incarnation, I don't think that's the case here.
Stephanie Katseyeanis thank you for this.
Stephanie Katseyeanis hell no im not reading it

I prefer the idea that Tamatoa and Maui had been allies in the past, searching for the Heart, and towards the end of their journey, Tamatoa turned on Maui, stealing his hook and trying to use its power, turning himself into a crab, and he never used the hook again, as he was scared of turning into something less useful. And, well, their battle ended with Maui defeating Tamatoa, but he kept both the Heart and the Hook.
It’s “taotaomona,” at least in Micronesia, or on at least Guam😂 good effort doe

THANK YOU! At least someone said it.
Also, in Shiny, Tamatoa said this line: "Shiny, like the treasure from a sunken pirate wreck." This implies that:
1: Tamatoa knows what a pirate ship is, which shouldn't be possible if Moana took place before The Little Mermaid.
2: He might have used that specific expression because he had an experience with a pirate ship himself, possibly in a past life. Note that there is a pirate wreck in The Little Mermaid. So, he could have been referencing that wreck, further supporting the idea that he's Ursula.
Excuse me, did you forget about the little coconut guys that chased down Moana and Maui?
Those guys were pirates.
Pirates have been around for as long as stuff has been on ships
Um...what about....
*S E B A S T I A N??*
And then that pirate ship is the wreck of Elsa and Anna's parent's ship which means it would be filled with shiny sparkly treasure
And he was killed by a ship A SHIP A SHIP A FREAKING SHIP!!
Avatar Aang reincarnated into Avatar Korra. Gender problem solved.
Aang and Korra both destroyed boats
Ps, I know how bad you guys want to make an avatar theory video but you feel restricted because it isn't Disney.
Corey Brown avatar and moana are two completely different things and reincarnation rules might differ but the only thing that reincarnated was that one white spirit and it was only possible because of that the person in the past life has nothing the do with the next one
He was clearly Iron man reincarnated.😂
Batman the great to soon
No he is Ursula

Roman Empire times?
Roman Empire times is like Jesus times!
He's referencing the technology. State of the art in western world around the first century was Rome.
But whatever. Totally doesn't matter that the theory I worked on for two months just got wrecked. Its fine.....
LEGO Boi actually you might he right, because maui ripped off tamatoa's leg 1000 years ago, so he is OLD, he existed before ursula died, so he might be her brother, or even father
They're entirely different species of crab.
LEGO Boi this actually makes a lot of sense but like The Best Voice replied, they are not the same crab. But great theory
LEGO Boi i mean its still just a theroy. Yours can be correct or incorrect
He's obviously David Bowie reincarnated as a crab, Think
Valdez Saihttam 😂yess
I see David has another alter ego.
Valdez Saihttam He's Ebirah's cousin.
I love how you frame this video. The beginning really sounds like you have actual information revealed by Disney and it’s not just a theory.
Who wants a Moana Origins?
Like when Maui said he ripped Tamatoa’s leg off. I wanna see that anyone else!?
yo! person who mentioned that Riley was possibly adopted. I got a Moana theory you might like.
Ok, so I'm pretty sure Moana and her family are descendents of Te Fiti.
A) Moana and Te Fiti are practically identical
B) her grandma has way too much knowledge on the heart, it's like she is deliberately telling Moana these stories as a toddler to enforce a duty plus she turns into a manta ray and comes back as a spirit to tell moana she needs to continue on
C) Moana shows signs of these mystical powers when she steps into the cave and gers a vision telling her everything about her tribes past
D) both moana ' s Dad and grandma have this intense craving for the ocean too.
Katelynn Hardy I really believe this but it would be traumatizing to kids that moana would be holding her relative's heart
Katelynn Hardy Good theory you get a rock 🗿
Katelynn Hardy nice
Wow great theory!! I really like it!
Katelynn Hardy That sounds very interesting!
The grandmother in the dark glows but in the light she looks like a normal stingray and when tamtoea is in the dark he lights (and when the shell closes) up like the grandmother did and he also looks normal in light
Did you really well I guess we can start our own theory together
odog396 but tomatoes can control which part of him glows because he made his antenna have a moving pink stripe pattern so if he covered himself in the glowing stuff he wouldn't be able to control it
odog396 but he would have glown green plus why would he want to roll around In that

I don't get why moana would have to be after little mermaid. Why couldn't ursula be a reincarnation of Tomato
Aidan JBS oooh what if?
Aidan JBS Lol "Tomato" 🍅 :D
because reincarnation is after you die
Technically reincarnation doesn't follow time as it isn't a part of the real, physical world
He said in his song "I was a drab little crab once!) so...I don't know but maybe just a crab?
who ate TOO many fishes...
OR MAYBE HE WAS SEBASTIAN

carl jeroldson exa
Potato Man Sebastion is a lobster isnt he?
Whenever I watch Moana and it gets to Tamatoa’s song, I always sing ugly instead of shiny 😂
You. Are. Funny. End of story XD

ikr!the one about the little mermaid
Misterioosa Shinee ikr his song shiny is so oooooh catchy
I like the idea of their being a reincarnation angle for tamatoa, and I can see the argument for Ursula but I too struggle with the fact that Tomatoa has been around for over 1,000 years. Let me offer an alternative possibility what if he was originally Jafar. The timing would work better in regards to the 1,000 years and it could also explain some of tomotoas treasure's. Plus as Jafar was essentially a wizard of sorts it would stand to reason he could know other magical beings regardless of a time gap explaining the little mermaid references.
yesss! not to mention, he's very vain like Ursula, they both have a very similar song, she breaks the 4th wall too by saying "Pathetic to her eels", AND very raspy voices! love this theory!! obsessed!
You know what's really cute is that Lin-Manuel, who wrote most of the music loved the little mermaid so much that he named his kid Sebastian! 💛
tomatoa even says at the end..
I can't be bothered to look it up and type it
but Google tomato a ending scene after credits

Aisling I think that the sabatian thing was because of him, he has opeanly said that his favorite disney movie was the little mermaid, and i do not belive it has to do with the theory

I would agree with your hypothesis of Tomatoa being Ursella in another demention.
Love your episodes, keep up the great work.
Does anyone ever talk about how Moana kinda screws over her kids by putting a shell on the rock pile. Gonna be hard to balance something on that
D Faria ye I do
I think she meant to do that cause the whole "we are voyagers and fuck this island" theme.
D Faria in the very beginning where Moana was a baby that shell was the was the first thing that the ocean gave to her if you didn't notice I looked at the print and it was the exact same in which I don't know if she remembered that stuff or anything but it was exact same rock or shell
IKR
They can put it around the shell
PLEASE INSPECT A FROZEN THEORY: WHO IS OAKEN?

I think Tamatoa is actually Maui's twin, and that's why Maui is abandoned, because Tamatoa is the 'Alpha Twin' and they did not want him. The gods cursed the rest of Maui's family, turning them into coconut crabs and banishing them of to the realm of monsters.
everyone know tamatoas real identity is shaffrillas productions

Coconut crabs do have 10 legs the other two are hidden under their tail (used to 'hop on' their mates if u know wut I mean)

Different mythologies bro
Moana = polynesian mythology
Little mermaid = greek mythology
Triton is the son of Poseidon
So? Different stories one root truth. All would eventually meet back at the same place.
Different cultures call the same thing different names.
hey supercarlinbrothers. I want to put up an interesting point for when at about 1:50 or so, you were talking about how tomatoa (excuse spelling) and the grandma were both reincarnated, but the grandma glowed and he didn't. Well, technically he did. when she was glowing, it was at night and it was dark. during his song, he hit the wall and caused a shell to close off the entrance at the top, blocking the light. he then started to glow purple.. along with all his treasure glowing what color? blue! so, maybe they only glow in the dark? makes sense to me
I love the immense detail that movies put into the lore of their films. Even small things like this.
Tamatoas true identity is
Schaffrillas Productions
Ah,its great to watch these old videos
FOURTH WALL!!! YOURE BREAKING THE FOURTH WALL!!!!!!!!!
something i noticed; the manta ray actually only glows during the night scenes, but in the day, it seemed like an ordinary manta ray. tamatoa actually doesn't start glowing until he closes the 'skylight'.
I'm new around here but I like this dude lol 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👌🏾
Wait. The music was written by broadway star and perfect human alive Lin-Manuel Miranda, who is also doing the music for the live action Little Mermaid. Boom
I think he's just a monster crab that likes all things shiny. :v
Also I think Moana takes place before Little Mermaid.
MittensTheCat so true
XD
The Egg the Ursula is the reincarnation :0
The Egg I would personally say that if he wasn't Ursula, Then he knew who she was. The fact that these writers were the same for both movies just explains how he knew who Sebastian was, but not much else.
We kind of know when Moana takes place, the story was written as something of an explanation for why the Polynesian people stopped wayfinding for about 1000 years, an event which ended shortly before Hawaii was settled for the first time somewhere between the 11th and 14th centuries, well before the timeline of The Little Mermaid.
Tamatoa is obviously the collector from guardians of the galaxy, duh.
Maukustus no I agree with supercarlinbrothers
Thought thar was just me.
This took an extremely unexpected turn.
