Cirrus SR20 Flight Lessons - Ep. 2 Reliefband 2.0 Beating Motion Sickness

- After loads of great advice from the AOPA forum, I purchased a Reliefband 2.0 from Amazon (amzn.to/2XenYsY) to work through my motion sickness. Really seemed to help with minimizing the impact of the steeper turns in the Cirrus SR20. We also had a couple encounters where we needed to quickly avoid traffic that was headed our way...oh, and I took off for the first time but ended up going a bit sideways.

Flight instructors love it when you give them controls.....it's the few times they actually get to fly.
Don’t know if you’re still flying but I admire your determination & honesty. You’re not afraid of asking questions & you realize your limitations.
Thanks for sharing! Good work!!! And good work finding that flight instructor. Very patient and calm and understanding.
Nice job JD, I wouldn't worry about the motion sickness, I think you'll be fine. Here's a hint, you have a great instructor, she will take the controls if she needs to, just don't freeze up when she asks, give them to her. Those take offs, and when you start, landings, are by the nature of flight, a small amount of time in your lesson, so when you are doing one keep with it, again if your instructor isn't saying "my controls" you are doing fine, also try to do what she is telling you in the moment, you'll learn faster. Great job, and I love 5EJ.
Awesome! Thanks, Paul! If weather holds, will be heading up tomorrow in 211SJ...more videos to come!
you have an excellent instructor
Nice job and great lesson from instructor
Where are you now in the training process? Did you get your certificate yet?
I find that the non-sedating Dramamine along with Zofran 4mg ODT (sublingual) is great for motion sickness and not sedating. I use it for scuba in rough seas and it’s just right. -Andy, MD
She is Awsome, love Cirrus aiplane. I was able to do my discovery flight in a Sr20. I'm 20 plus hours in a cessna 172, you might want to start out on one of those first and switch over to a cirrus on ifr training.
I am training in the SR 20 and love it. I definitely understand that those dual training is a bit pricey. For flight simulation, I use X-plane and fly the Cirrus SR22. Also I use ForeFlight on my iPad and pair it with X-Plane 11. This helpful to track your position on the map in ForeFlight and you can use the electronic checklist to get you in the practice of the procedures. Keep on flying 👍🏽
Thanks for the tip Anderson! I have X Plane 11 as well but have taken to using the G1000 app from Simionic on my iPad so I can have more of my screen be outside view and less instruments. Where do you usually fly?
JD Flies Cirrus No problem! I glad to share my tips. I fly from KLOM, which just northwest of Philadelphia.
How is the flying going?
Matt Jernigan @ unfortunately my Cirrus instructor (avidyne certified) left for the airlines and I had to continue my training in the 172.
@@CrooklynPilot sorry to hear that. Learning to fly is on my bucket list. Love the cirrus plane
Just did my first flight today on a 172 starting flight school and almost puked on the CFI… just bought the relief band premier lol
i'm gonna order one too. did my first flight 2 days ago. i didn't puke but definitely felt woozy halfway through and i felt off right through the next day. did it help you?
Love ur vids!
Does this product work in stormy seas?
Does this flight instructor give flight lessons in Long Island. She is awesome.
I’m almost certain she does not teach outside of the greater Boston area but I will ask at my next flight lesson. I’ve heard there is a great Cirrus school at the Westchester airport called Performance Flight (performanceflight.com) but maybe that’s too far from where you are.
Hey man, is your relief band still working? I got pretty sick on my first flight, and I'm considering getting a band.
How do I get caught in these RUclips rabbit holes?
I'm sold! Where do I sign? Anyway how much does a full training PPL schedule cost on average at Mike Goulian aviation? Anyone know?
Did you setup your flight sim? Very interested to see what you setup and info. Thanks!
Hey Rick, yes! Sim is setup and I have some footage captured but haven't yet edited it together yet. Will be up in the next few weeks so long as I don't get distracted. Thanks for asking!
Hey is this still working for you when you fly?
How is it going?
Is flying really this hard?? Getting cold feet !!
From what I've learned, it really depends. Some people have no issues. I definitely struggle with motion sickness. Also, more than anything there is a real time and financial commitment that didn't really become clear to me until a few months in. I'm currently on a break especially during Covid-19 to think through how best to proceed. Don't be discouraged, if you want to fly, you will find a way.
@@jdfliescirrus6743 i had my first flight today, it wasnt as i expected, i got real bad motion sickness, i couldnt get my eyes off the instrument maybe thats what it caused or something else but i wasnt able to pay attention to flight due to motion sickness and it was mood killer. Especially at take of i felt like im in Rollercoaster:) long story short, how did you get over it?
@@Captain-w5b I didn't really get over it so much as I learned how to minimize the impact and train my mind/body to have more stamina before it gets really bad. That said, definitely look outside and not at the instrument panel (always follow the guidance of your flight instructor, but I'm sure they'd agree here). The relief band does help if you want to try it and afford it. Good luck. Don't give up! If you want to fly, you can do it.
I don't think he likes flying
