I’m a very happy Devils fan. He isn’t a permanent solution due to his age but will be solid for the next couple of years. I really hope we develop Schmid and Daws well during this time so that one of them might be ready when he leaves or retires.
He will definitely be a good fit for the Devils in the short term. He works hard, and plays hard, and he's got a good attitude about him. I really liked him here in Calgary. He's no all-star, but if he can stay healthy he should provide stable predictable goaltending for NJ as the team develops.
Nope.. they do nothing. Since brodeur retired they never developed anything.. a half swiss cheese team, lackluster D
The thing about having a reliable goalie is that the guys up front tend to play better since they're not as worried about making mistakes. Assuming that injury issues don't derail them yet again, this move ought to get them into the playoffs AND the Flames got a 1st rounder and an asset for him. I see this as a win for both of them :)
Jersey is playoff bound now !
His age…? Is Markstrom 65 or something?
Not so bad for Calgary. They seem to be building a bigger team. Markstrom wanted out, Wolf wants in, and with a no trade clause, it kinda limited what Conroy could do.
They way I see it marky plays flip flop years, he’s good next season he is bad, could be a home run considering that isn’t a protected first round pick
@@terranboot9405 I agree. Plus, he didnt want to be here, so Conroy picks up a big young defenseman in trade along with a pick. Its the best that could be done under the circumstances.
@terranboot9405 that's first rnd pick is protected
Excited for Wolfy to take on a bigger role. Maybe a veteran netminder (not Vlady) to help ease the burden.
Getting another goalie puts them back to where they were . With the team in a rebuild I'm okay with Vlady and Wolf as the tandem next year .
Calgary did great! A 1st and a mid-grade prospect for a goalie who is well past 30 and doesn’t want to be here? Perfect
Devils got FLEECED from Calgary...again.
I'll miss Bahl's size, but he wasn't exactly playing that great. I was hoping to see him develop but oh well. Happy to get Markstrom, welcome to Jersey!
I hope Markstrom does very well for New Jersey. He's super in the net and deserves a better situation than he had in Calgary.
Dudes inconsistent year2year so
@@judistzoinkiski3395 Well I'd rather have him here in Pittsburgh over the two supremely average goaltenders we have now, but that's done. So I wish him well in New Jersey.
He had kid, and ownership is worse than edm.let that sink in.
@@MrGamman3yt Yes, Calgary's ownership is suspect.
Thanks broooooo. 😊
means Dustin Wolf is likely the Starter for the Flames
No, it doesn't. They shouldkeep going slowly. Look anywhere. 27yrs is a good age.
I think Wolf will begin the season as back-up to Vladar, but I definitely agree that this trade means Wolf has earned his spot on the Flames NHL roster full time. It's likely a matter of time before he becomes the starter in Calgary, as long as he continues to play well.
They may split the season unless Wolf turns it right up
Cool, glad the rebuild is going as planned. Time to see Wolf in full time action.
No, he's young and small. Slow development, or he'll be a bust. However many games this year, add 25% more until 44 games by 26ish.
One domino down for NJ, let's knock down a few more Tom
You wouldn’t rather they have chased after Ullmark? I think this trade only makes sense for your team if they use the pick from this draft to get a shut down defenseman
Do Hope Markstrom Does Well in New Jersey. The Devils Certainly do need some Good Goal-tending after what happened this season
You know Markstorm fell of 2nd half of the season right
@@judistzoinkiski3395 yeah i know that sadly that's why i hope with a new change of Place he will hopefully Bounce Back At Least
@@judistzoinkiski3395 who wouldnt fell of playing in a shithole like calgary
Now the next goalie trade is Ullmark and I think it's coming pretty soon

@brAnd7onX87 Maybe but I think Ullmark is more likely even though I am a Bruins fan
Ullmark to Carolina
@@mitchellcampbell6181settle down there mitchy
@@mitchellcampbell6181 Ullmark to Carolina is very possible if Carolina is not on Ullmark's no trade list
Satisfied with the trade from a NJD fan's perspective. Devs didn't give up the 10oa pick, nor holtz, casey, or other youngsters. Bahl was always the odd man out if the Devs went shopping for a more experienced top-4 blueliner to shore up the defense somewhere else. Among Jersey's needs, getting a goalie was going to be the most tricky in the offseason market, and they won't be overpaying in salary or in assets traded. Solid.
As a devils fan I'm happy the trade is said and done bc hearing all of what we possible could have given up was sickening at time but this I can live with.
Shannon,... please where did you get that Devils jersey??
Can you recommend any indie vintage jersey stores, eBay just isn't cutting it anymore, especially for big dudes who need CCM 58/60 or Reebok 60 jersey sizes.
I'm a happy devils fan
hopefully the first next year isn't top ten
next for fitz is to add to the bottom six and maybe a defenseman
For me, as a Flames fan, this is sad news, but probably inevitable news. They didn't have room to keep Markstrom, Vladar, and Wolf on their NHL roster. They obviously don't want to trade away Wolf any time soon, and since it seemed the relationship with Markstrom had already been soured, he was the obvious choice.
Plus in terms of return value, Flames will have gotten more back for Marky than they would have for Vladar. I don't know much about Bahl, but Calgary definitely could use a defensive-defenceman or two in their lineup.
hope they dont pile the whole season on wolf.. gotta have a 50/50 tandem like boston did this year
I think Calgary is now one of those places no one wants to go to.
No one is saying why, but there has to be a reason why we cant keep any stars.
@@user-iw5mp5th6d i have been a fan of the Flames for 34 years, and I can not ever remember an exodus sich as this one. It all started with that douchebag Gaudreau.
Some of the talk about the Flames not getting enough in this deal, fails to take in to account the money involved in the deal. With Vladar and Wolf in net next season, they can use that 4 million to build up the rest of the club. And the amount of first round picks that calgary has, can be used to build the team up as well. We're going to see a different Flames roster, and I think this is just the beginning of the moves they'll make. Cap space is a premium in and of itself, let's hope they use it wisely.
Really would have preferred Ullmark. Younger and in my opinion, better. But Markstrom is a clear upgrade over what NJ had. So I'll take it. Hate seeing Bahl go. But he can br replaced. The 1st stings, but the top 10 protected, and retained salary on Markstrom helps. Nobody got fleeced here. Feel like both teams got what they were looking for. Calgary got some long term rebuild return. NJ got a short term solution to contend ASAP.
Great Video, as usual, Shannon
I really wanted the Wings to go after him 😕. I thought he would have been an upgrade over Husso and Lyon, and a good bridge to Cossa. I think they could have offered more too, I guess they were never really in the convo.
Its a real shame how the Flames front office couldnt manage to build on what they had just a few short seasons ago.
Tkachuk meant even more than anyone realized
Head office is/was apparently very bad. You know it's bad when Oilers with 2 Chirali/Holland contracts (Nurse and Cambell), looks good in comparison. Lol. Oilers with 18% of their contracts as dead weight, are winning.
@@MrGamman3yt to be be fair the Oilers aren't exactly the greatest built team but McDavid covers up ALOOOT of wrongs. Without him they are probably just a borderline wildcard team
Horribly managed, something fishy its almost a joke or organization now

Think its a fair return considering Markstroms age and injury history. Plus Bahl is a fairly good Dman and next years draft is supposed to be really really deep
And Ty Dellandrea is gone to San Jose for a 4th Rounder... Wow...
Solid trade all around.
Is.. Is that a framed picture of Gary Betman behind you?
Good deal for both teams
Devils got an old net keeper coming in into playing teams like rangers ,panthers, canes..even 😂... .. yea right good luck
no one scared of the rangers
He may have looked that way on Calgary considering they are more or less an AHL team now.
Best thing about this is the devils still have their top ten pick for this year. Let's go for a top six forward to pair with Jacky Boy tons of cap space still!
The most expected trade finally gets done.
Difficult to lose another quality veteran , and quality individual , but that’s life in a rebuild. Decent return for a 34 year old goalie. And Wolf needs more playing time at the NHL level to find out if he’ll develop into star material. He wouldn’t get enough playing time over the next two years if Marky is the #1. I hope they add a smaller veteran goalie who can mentor Wolf and give him tips on succeeding as goalie of smaller stature.
Casey DeSmith*
Calgary get around $4 million in cap space, along with defenseman Bahl and possible 2025 first round pick? was Calgary needing more cap space? to make another signing?
Also, Kings traded PLD to Washington for Darcy Kuemper
Calgary is embracing the tank it seems
Both teams got what progressed them further towards their current goals. I'll miss Marky in Calgary, but looking forward to Bahl and whatever that 2025 (or 2026) first looks like.
I don’t think people realize how good of a defenceman bahl is
Best goalie tandem named Jake in the league folks.
Review Coachella valley firebird's vs Hershey Bears final. Game 5-7 will be on NHL TV
2 min video on the biggest trade of the summer so far 🔥
Was kinda hoping the Avs were interested. Oh well....maybe Ullmark.
I've heard Utah is looking at Ullmark. They have the most capspace, and draft pics to do it.
Funny how this trade could impact the Habs depending how many games Jake Allen gets to play with Markstrom in net.
Damn was hoping cbj would have something for him
Scenic photos of the Scioto River?
Also a great spot for him because he can still have that sick mask design
Love the move for the Devils. Did not give up much and have a ton of cap flexibility still. I really wanted Ullmark or Saros but the deals they will sign after their contract is up would put the Devils in a bad spot cap wise
Watching Flames closely since Sutter was there. Markstrom was ok the best he looked was when Sutter was coaching him and especially first half of season when they made the second-round of playoffs. Good move for Flames as losing Tanev a good stay at home defensemen needed.
Trade makes sense right now for both teams really.
Seems okay for Calgary. Defense is a gaping hole right now with Tanev and Hannifin getting traded this year. So the team got to add a little depth there. Nice for Dustin Wolf to be able to be able to get a permanent spot on the big club
Top 10 protected is total BS. Top 10 is what the flames need.
Can be unprotected in 2026 ! Or number 11 next year
@@NishantMehrotra yeah but 2025 is supposed to be a good year for tops ten
@@NishantMehrotra I suppose pick 11 is equal to getting two number 1’s LOL
It finally happened. Now I don't mind the traded, the Flames did okay. I would like this year 10 picked. But I can see it would have been hard to get. But we get a first rounder for next year, which could be a higher picked as NJ would be in the playoffs next year. The player we get I don't know. It will be to early to say who wins this traded or Flames got fleeced.
Glad the Devils finally pulled off this trade. Hopefully it along with getting Hamilton back and the continued development of Nemec & Hughes makes for a stingier D. Zadorov would look great in a Devils uniform.
Devils fan here, REALLY happy to have Markstrom after the sickening goaltending this season. I'm sad to see Bahl go... he's a good young D-man... big, heavy... if Calgary can somehow inject some snarl into him, then they've got themselves a decent player!
Good trade. As a devils fan markstrom and Allen is good tandem.
Sounds like Calgary’s gonna have a Bahl. 🔥
Looking forward to Shesterkin vs Markstrom
Good deal for both sides. Flames can make this trade really mega based on who they pick in ‘25 or ‘26. The next Dawson Mercer if history rhymes.
I think everyone is misinterpreting what Markstrom is……. Jake Allen and Markstrom are both 1990’s one has played 429 career games, the other 483, one has a career 2.76 gaa the other 2.73 and one has a .907 sv% career average and the other is .909. So for Allen to cost a 3rd pick for 1.5 years of control and Markstom to cost a 1st plus a 23 y/o 6’6 defenceman who will log 17:30 toi for 2 years doesn’t add up to me.
definitely an overpay but I'm glad we didn't move Holtz
Keeping Holtz is key. I hope he takes a big step this year.
It's a solid trade as Calgary needs new blood for that #1 spot and with Markstrom going to my third fav team it's a win/win!
I am a bit surprised that neither Daws or Schmid were included in this deal. I can only assume that one of them may get moved separately.
Same here. The Devils have three other young minor league goalies under contract… I’m wondering if they may move both to teams looking to give a young goalie a shot as a backup or 1B. Pretty sure both need to clear waivers to be sent down next year…
I mean, their 3rd goalie is basically like a 2B. Allen will be 34 and has been unremarkably serviceable. Markstrom 35 and has been more solid than spectacular the last 2 seasons. If the Devils don’t embrace full-ice discipline, nothing short of a star in net will solve their issues.
Go Devils! Good trade both ways, I’ll miss Bahl but I’m happy we should have solid goaltending next season
Calgary looks stacked in picks. It's kinda like NJ only trades for goalies now. Think a 1st rounder is very good for a player of his age, along with a young player.
I know a video will be hitting soon. DuBois traded to the Capitals for Kuemper. Do not think the Kings are done yet. Could be a busy next few days, going into draft day
I remember the goaltending woes before Markstrom. I think flames made a mistake to even contemplate trading him. Wolf is not ready and Vladar has shown that he is not a number one goaltender. A team that has inconsistent goal scoring and poor defence, I think its back to inconsistent team and losing a lot of games
This seems like a trade that should have been along time ago. 🤔 Might just have made the difference in Jersey this past season. Loved him as a Canuck though so hopefully he'll do well.
I hope NJ faces Edmonton in next years SCF.
Devils have no team defensive scheme! Most of their Defensemen play like forwards. Zero physical defensemen. Markstrom will be on his own most games! He will most likely have a losing record unless Devils can play some quality defense in front of him
NJ fan says it's a great move considering his age and the salary retention. Akira Schmid and Nico Daws will have time to develop in the AHL. Kevin Bahl was expendable. LGD!
Good trade for the Flames. Markstrom is 34 and not getting better. Wolf needs to have a shot at the starting gig.
Finally traded but not the exact trade that the Calgary Flames are hoping for. Young defenseman looks like a nice replacement for Nikita Zadorov and get a first rounder in 2025 where the Calgary Flames pick is in limbo.
This was inevitable and the return Calgary got was about what I expected. Have to make room for Wolf somehow.
Very happy for the Devils on this one... You need a new perimeter board now with Arizona gone..m
As an Oilers fan, I hope Calgary can trade up to get 2 top 10 picks in this draft. Tij and Catton would be great or Dickinson. Or the Hitmens own yakemchuck. Love the draft this year
Trading for a 34yr old Goalie doesnt seem too smart, Markstrom only has 1 maybe 2 decent seasons left in him.
Exactly. That's the point bud.
As a Devils fan I think this is a fair trade for both teams. I like it
Yes Markström! Lets go Devils!
Disappointed with the return CGY got. Devils came out and publicly said they're willing to part ways with their 10th overall for an upgrade in goal...so what happened?
Markstrom set to complete the Hughes brothers hat-trick.
One thing to remember is Markstrom had a NMC
Devils have 2 years to get better, Fitzgerald was rushing goalies too often which caused Blackwood and Schmid burned out. Hopefully that 2 years will provide enough time for Devils to develop their prospects.
More acquisitions to come for the Devils also!
Still got that top ten
@@ancientkeyboardwarrior how much cap sapce do they have tho
@@Oxmosh 13.6
I hope not
@@Cape-Dwellerwhat do you mean you hope not? We could use one or two of the many UFA's on defense, and on offense as well to fill the void McLeod left.
I'll be watching to see what Nashville does. They have their goalie in the future, in Milwaukee, who played well this season. Do they trade Saros, or keep him and bring in the guy in Mikwaukee as backup. If Saros becomes available, the Preds will get lots of phone calls.
Depends on what Saros is expecting contract wise. If he wants 8 x 8 he won't be in Nashville. If he is willing to do 8 x4 or something he probably sticks around.
Sweet, Sweet, Jersey!
I absolutely love this trade: the return for Ullmark is going to be awesome!
I hope so. There's a chance bruins get a worse return because of Ullmark's no trade clause, depending on the available teams it could end up being just a cap dump
@mike1134
Markstrom had a full NMC (unlike Ullmark - who can be traded to 16 teams, meaning - has less control), he's much older, had a higher cap hit before Calgary retained, he couldn't catch a beach ball in '22 playoffs against the Oilers, then had a terrible '22-23 regular season. In general, Ullmark is a much better goalie, and - unlike the Flames - Boston doesn't really need to move him; worst case, they can ride an elite Swayman-Ullmark tandem again and patiently wait for a better offer... There is no way they're getting less than what NJD gave for Markstrom; probably, they would get way more than that
@anti-uefa it depends on who is on his NTC tho. If all the teams desperate for goalies are on it, then no one is gonna pay that price for an upgrade they don't need. While I agree Ullmark is the better goalie, it is going to be difficult to find a partner willing to trade that much for him that isn't on his NTC. You may end up with a worse return because of it. As a bruins fan I hope not but I do think it's a possibility. We may also just hang onto him and try and trade again at the deadline if that's the case.
Rumors have Utah in the mix for Ullmark. They have the most cap space and alot of top pics they could swap.
Marky could thrive there.
Flames my favorite team and devils are my #2 so I'm loving this trade. Devils finally get a goalie and flames get a defensive defenseman I like and a 1st round pick to help their future. Personally, with my eyeball test I'd compare Bahl to Gudbranson. After flames traded half their D core away last year they need some guys like this
Only thing to add here is that bahl is not physical at all. Unfortunately turn overs and less physical bases on his frame hurts the devils.
As a Flames fan, I have no issues with this trade.
That’s hopefully one problem solved for the Devils. Now what about that defense? Is just hope and pray Dougie doesn’t get hurt again or are they gonna bring in reinforcements?
There are so many good FA dmen this off-season. Skjee, Zadorov, and Myers are all on the market.
Also with 13.5 mil in cap left, devs can make a good move to get some great guys.
I guess the rebuild is official? considering Calgary paid nothing to get him not a terrible return
Good. Now trade guys like Kadri and Coleman. Rebuild, get young and tank. That should be the goal of the Calgary Flames.
I think teams were waiting for the Finals to be over to announce deals, but the way the Finals are now dragging on and rapid onset of the entry draft/free agency means they're tired of waiting because they got work to do and not much time to get stuff done. It's a good deal for New Jersey who should get back into the playoffs again.
Omg I know. If it goes to 7 games, that will make a total of 16 days from start to finish.. that is just too much. Who wants to be watching hockey at the end of June!
@@ffej4895 the two days in between games are enough time to be in the camp of "Oh yeah, I guess there's a hockey game on. I might watch a bit of it" if it's not your home team.

Nice job by Fitz. Thankfully its not the pick this year too so if the Devils bounceback its going to pick a pick in the 20's and who cares at that point.
So does this mean Dan Vladar is the main goalie for the Flames now?
So, Ullmark is not going to NJ
No he is. Him, saros, gibson, any goalie you can name who possibly could be traded is going to be a devil. Fitzgerald is going to corner the market and then sell them for more than they’re worth.
Or Gibson... hrmm.
Calgary got more than I would have expected.

Their stadium series jersey is now the new best for me. It was this one
The Devils never had a good season with Red & Green.. That includes Travis Green..
The ‘22-‘23 third jersey with the Scouts/ Rockies colors was the best
Welp, there completely goes the Pens chances at a WC next year
Great trade for NJD, for that price he is a great add. However, they should have made this move earlier in the season and not now.
The flames gm was asking for too much or else the devils would of definitely got him during the season.
@@njdevils9236 or Flames thought they were gonna make the playoffs 😬
