I wish John Adams would wake up to the fact that his music is much more important than even he imagines. That he has immense
responsibilities. Such as the Mammoth American Symphony and the Concerto for Bass Drum (very powerful).

Adams talks out of both sides of his mouth sometimes about the avant garde. Here is a man wearing a Charles Ives sweater in one shot, who is a conductor of Elliott Carter and others, but often does not have nice words for that generation of composers. Adams writes great music, but the antipathy for the avant garde is just so confusing considering who he is and what else he likes.

John Adams is NOT America’s performed living composer. John Williams is.
