As a Jurong West resident who commute on 243 everyday, this change of operator like just change logo only, although got to commend SMRT for the clearer LED formatting for showing the destination (will help to distinguish between services, such as 243 Boon Lay and 258 Joo Koon at Jurong West Street 81). But other than that, it’s just a change of branding. Change of map at the bus interchange, different look, that’s all. After all, it’s between two operators that are somewhat government entities in the beginning (Singapore MRT and Singapore Bus Services). Anyway, it’s quite obvious this is in preparation for SBS Transit to get Jurong Region Line some time in December 2024. SMRT also hint hint about it at their instagram post today by mentioning something like they are taking over Jurong West region In terms of buses (then trains leh? The new JRL very likely will give SBS Transit.) Really just from one hand to another. Furthermore, using the same bus depot, bus fleet, bus drivers, operations crew and maintenance crew. Really don’t need to invest too much into this transition. But of course, understandably, this is the first change of operator since Sembawang-Yishun in 2021 from SMRT to Tower Transit. First time in 3 years. Therefore, the hype is understandable. But everything else, pretty much the same. Livery also mostly SBST livery, except paste SMRT logo only. In fact, last time SBS logo look like SMRT logo, cuz they were technically the same entity last time. SBS for buses, SMRT for trains. Can really say, nothing much changed. Although, it has demonstrated that through Jurong West bus package transition, Singapore has successfully implemented a same-depot change of operator for the first time. Anyway, just sharing out my thoughts about the Jurong West bus package. No reply required.
I heard SBST & SMRT are fighting for JRL. SBST will use their MKBF from Downtown Line, SMRT will use their TEL records based. Back then, SBST already leading. But as of now, LTA are deciding which operator to award. But SBST & SMRT will get one line each
@@TIB1234T considering already done so much, unlikely will change the plan at the very last minute. Therefore, now to think about it, most probably, 24km JRL - SMRT. 50km CRL - SBST.
Okay, now, something I have observed: Although now SMRT has taken over Boon Lay Bus Interchange, the 4 non-Jurong West region SMRT bus routes 172, 178, 180, 187 like still use their own dedicated parking bays leh. Haven’t integrate yet, considering now all part of SMRT already. Maybe this is just a temporary measure, cuz now only transition period. Most probably after one month like that, can really expect 172, 178, 180, 187 to really use the main parking area together with the Jurong West region routes already. Nonetheless, of course, some routes still have to use those spare lots. But let it be first come first served basis lor, with the exception being bendy lots. CCK Int and WDL Int got the information panel at the entrance driveway informing drivers about where got empty parking bays. I believe BL Int and JK Int will also have it after SMRT settle into Jurong West region.
