Glitch Art Experimental Documentary: Analog Literacy

- Welcome to "Analog Literacy," a mind-bending journey from the analog dream to digital reality. Analog and digital glitch techniques, piles of interconnected circuit bent devices, artificial intelligences, Python scripts, film, files, thoughts. All these elements are woven together in a tapestry of video signal routings, creating an experimental realm of transfixing patterns and anomalies.
The music is composed - or found - with modular synths, echoes of field recordings, and the unpredictable accidents of circuit-bent audio devices. The soundscape is an auditory odyssey and mirrors the search for a path to the world.
This documentary is a glimpse into the psyche of a being ensnared in an analog dream, yearning for the enlightment of the digital world. Our journey through this bent maze is guided by the affects left by other bodies during previous digital lives.
This work draws inspiration from the cutting-edge narrative styles of William Burroughs, the intense emotional landscapes of Dino Campana, the conception of act of Carmelo Bene, Artaud's theatre of cruelty, the video art of Nam June Paik and Shigeko Kubota, the abstract expressions of Paul Klee, the visceral impact of Francis Bacon's paintings, and the groundbreaking music of Luc Ferrari and Edgar Varèse.

We're not worthyyyyyy 🙇
..................thanks for coming back from the future to share this.
Stunningly beautiful, more people should see this!
Only a few minutes in and its amazing. Its been awhile since Ive seen a fully fleshed out concept like this. Great work and thank you.
This deserves so much more recognition, and is a true work of art! The algorithm might not pick it up, but if it somehow made it to Netflix or any other streaming platform, it would blow minds! good job friend. I’ll make sure to do my part by sharing.
Thank you so much for the lovely feedback pal! It's supporters like you who keep me motivated to continue on this path. Thank you for sharing, it means the world to me!
Absolutely, this dude love to push tech chaos. Although entropy says otherwise
Had me twisting my phone@2:25😂, very good. Truly inspiring and will be rewatching again later. Very cool😎
BRAVO!! verry cool!
crazy work. loved the video, very inspiring
Can’t wait to watch this later!
Amazing
素晴らしいノイズアートでした。❤❤❤❤❤❤❤👍
どうもありがとう、相棒 ❤🙏 私が使用している翻訳者が機能するといいのですが
you should submit this to film festivals, no joke. this is incredible.
Thank you, your suggestion is definitely inspiring and something I would like to do :) Do you have any particular film festival in mind? Thanks again!
Wow
So many awesome visual ideas in here.
i love this, i wish i knew how it worked
this is what editing a video on robocough feels like
Insane!! Inspired me to create some more unique stuff to glitch out for my next show!
Thanks pal, I'm glad this video has been of inspiration for you :)
This is as good or better than things I saw at the Tate Modern in the past year.
so dopeee waattt
Amazing! Love so much about this. Also, the clarity of the recordings and upload are great. They really maintain the character of the glitch from the screen. I see a lot of uploads suffer from compression. What was you workflow for recording, editing, and uploading?
Thanks pal! For this documentary, I have tried to consider the acquisition process as an intregral part of the opera itself, so I have used multiple techniques, sometimes in a creative way. I'll try to give you a brief list of the methods I used, but I'm happy to explain them more in depth if needed. Consider that I have different crts and lcd screens and that I've used almost all of them for different parts of the video.
- crt capturing with my smartphone (60fps, f 1/50s or 1/25s)
- crt capturing with digital camera
- crt recording with svhs camera
- crt recording with hi8 camera
- recording on vhs and then digital rescanning
- direct digital rescanning (@yovozol has explained this process very well), from svideo/composite to vga, from vga to hdmi
- computer screen recording
- double or even triple rescanning (multiple techniques, one on the top of the other)
I couldn't take my eyes off the screen
Very nice
such a sick concept
Amazing art!!Are you sending video signal from your laptop? If yes what downscaler (HDMI to analog are you using) and what video capture card (analog to HDMI) are you using?
I'm sending some signal from a mac, I use a cheap thunderbird to HDMI converter, and a cheap HDMI converter (those classical white/black box you see going for few bucks). I record most of video rescanning the crt, but in some cases I use a TvOne C2-2755 (using its S-Video input) to convert and upscale in HDMI, which is in turn send to the computer via a Magewell USB capture
Cool!
Bro dats so cool😍😍
This is amazing experience! As an artist, I would like to know more about your creative process or motivation, what do you seek to transmit?
Thanks pal. I'm deeply interested in the idea - and practice - of exploring and enhancing the flaws of reality. I believe that by focusing on what is uncertain, unstable, decaying and broken, it is possible to reconsider the human nature in the light of its own inherent vulnerability and interdependence, and to work towards a more honest and ecologic form of identity.
Unreal
2:36 aphex!!! :3
This is amazing! Would you consider letting me use your visuals in a music video? I sent you an email as well.
@@voidcomp As long as you credit the video with a link or something, there's really no problem for me. Feel free to use it :)
@@pushkarbrand I absolutely will! Thank you :)
wow,
❤🔥🙏
Would you ever share tutorials on what gear and how to use said gear and also programs on how to do this?
That's on my list of the things to do. I've already published a lot of videos about the gears I use, but I shall make a rig rundown and some more specific tutorial about specific techniques and programs
@@pushkarbrand looking forward to it 🧠
What is your crt tv fps mainly you use
I have 8 different crt, trinitron monitors and tv, jvc monitor, sony wega, and a couple of obscure brands. All of them react in very different ways with the glitches, so I generally display the glitches in all of them and I pick up the one I prefer with the particular effect I'm looking for. I don't have a favourite one, they simply look very different and show the glitches in radically different ways. For fps - if I have understood your question - I generally record videos in 60fps
