Hi everyone! What grade (out of 10) would you give this video?
comment posted 2 months ago 💀
Please they haven't invented a score high enough for Tom cruise yet 🙏
@@I_Am_Bowi im shocked too
8. minus 2 points for the obvious complete separation of Tom Cruise as he slides away into thin air making it impossible for him to somehow levitate back to the rock and cling to the edge. ruclips.net/video/T3u19n9PCyk/видео.html
10/10
Well done Ben Stiller. You nailed this scene.
exactly what I was thinking
Who's that
I don't know who this Ben Stiller is but I always thought Tom Crooze was a great stunt double.
Yes, and his movie "Oblivion" was one of the best in Stiller's carrier!!!
Tom croooze
Fun fact. This scene was not scripted. The crew just happened to record Tom's morning workout and the director decided to inlcude it in the film.
lol
I mean… rock climbing is his actual workout routine so… 🤷
@polakpolak4879 i mean yeah, but there was a nicer way of saying that.
Mofo looking for zenu
Amazing how many people fell for this …
He was banging in his 20s, smashing it in his 30s, rocking it in his 40s, cool in his 50s n still continuing in his 60s. The fella is an ageless legend 🙌🏻❤
Showing that Ethan Hunt is a kind of man that exercises with death defying tasks even on his day offs was a master cinema trick to develop his character. Just because of this very scene I always saw him in the sequels as a man fearlessly giving his all in every single task he does, and it really sauced up those movies, specially MI3 and Rogue Nation.
🤯
*especially
MI3 is FANTASTIC, Rouge Nation too🥵🤌🏼
And as Cinemawins pointed out, stuff like this is a breeze compared to what Ethan Hunt does normally, so he's having fun
and he also flyes in top gun jests, the man, the myth, the legend
MI -2 was the first movie i had watched in theatre. This opening sequence stuck in my head since then.
Same. The Souca-Nana song stuck in my head too. 😭😂
MI2 is the worst movie in the MI franchise. Probably because they were trying to make Ethan Hunt too much like James Bond.
@@spacemann1425 MI2 is the best movie in the franchise besides Fallout
@@swarnavsinha6442 bruh💀
@@spacemann1425 I wouldn't say the worst because it's still a good movie. But it's indeed the weakest entry in the franchise.
I still can't believe How cool and epic this scene was.
This whole movie was cool
Is it me or we don't usually see scenes with this kind of sunny weather or was it because of some camera setting?
That glasses scene was so iconic I did that loads of times play acting
Glasses and cruise, is like action and cruise or running and cruise.
Anything visually cool he re-iconised it all and carried it off.
With real Oakleys? Pricey.
@@BillClay88 I bought these Oakley Metal X after the movie came out, wore them almost every day for years. Still got them in my Drawer. Would do anything for them to make them again.
I LOVED this scene as a kid, made me think Tom Cruise was the coolest guy in the world. I'm 32 and still think that
Me too
have you seem his video thanking the fans for watching top gun maverick while jumping down a plane and sky diving? he is actually a fucking legend
Me tooo....
Loved that movie , I wanted to buy a motorcycle like him and do some stunts like him
Tom Cruise is still the coolest guy in the world.
As a kid, this scene sky-rocketed my phobia of height😭🙏
Same
Haha bro that is true.
So did the sales of Oakley
For me it was Cliffhanger. First movie that scared me with the fear of heights.

There was no risk to Tom in this scene. Leonard Nimoy was watching from below wearing rocket boots.

@@rindjint3205 corrected. Thank you
Gold comment, i have a soft spot for st 5, despite its flaws it was not a bad film as everyone made it out to be.
Exactly. And with a Marsh Melon in his pocket.
Wasn't he in the original MI series?
The best hair he’s ever had in a Mission film
He definitely got the great hair genes, lucky bastard😂. But yeah, on this one his hair is unbeatable.
I think he had the same hair style is MI: 4
STILL...the best 'SELF - DESTRUCT MESSAGE' of the entire franchise...
I just appreciate how he has always puts his body on the line for the audience to make cool scenes like this
He was in no danger whatsoever
^ liar shut up
@@TheNeonRabbit Not in this scene, but he does generally do crazy shit without a stunt double. Like the recent movie where he is holding onto an airplane as it takes off or when he trained to hold his breath five minutes for an underwater shoot.
he got paid
@@Bryce3189 Same as every other actor but they're not doing the things he's doing in his 60s
Good old times. This movie was the first DVD I played in my PS2. At that time, DVD players still aren´t as common as today, and PS2 as both DVD Player and game machine was a must.
And, funny enough, the PS3 was the cheapest bluray player on release! If you were lucky enough to get one...
Haha same for the PS3! Blu Ray
Coolest intro ever. Really summarises the character.
this was the first movie I watched at the cinema, it was with my father, he came home from work and we left
It was mine as well, I watched it with my elder brother. My brother's college exams got over and I was in school.
I loved this scene when i was 16, i m 39 and i m still loving this scene and movie. Tom Cruise is always in his peak time !
This scene was and will always be epic. 😎🔥👍🏻
This scene was godly beautiful and the music 😘.
Not many people remember it TBH for some reason i still do
Yessssss the soundtrack to this movie was incredible!! Shoutout Heitor Pereira, the guitarist
Real life footage of Tom Cruise, climbing to the top of his career metaphorically speaking.
"Your mission if you choose to accept, to become the best actor in the world. Your marriages will self-destruct in 30 years."
🍷👍 Also Tom - YES YESSS!!! OH BABY YEAAAHHH!!!
Not really metaphorically when he actually did this lol
Hey 30 years isn't bad for a marriage
I love how we got not 1 but 2 scoffs followed by a head shake. Genius.
The double-scoff head-shake is Oscar-worthy.
So everyone just remembers seeing this scene as a kid huh. Probably most iconic scene of MI films
Ya we're all old now sadge
this just shows what Ethan hunt is all about, really solidifies his character.
Exactly. WHY is this even in the film? It contains nothing plot related other than demonstrating that Ethan Hunt has zero value for his own life, which is inconsistent with all other self-preservation and important things he does.
@@dalauder true, it is kind of ironic
@@dalauder bc it´s fun to watch maybe?
@@dalauder if you ever watched Cinemawins video on this movie, he points out that this makes sense for the character
Doing stuff like this is a breeze compared to his job normally, and also allows him to train for when he might need to use these skills in missions later (ex. During the infiltration on the island, and in Fallout where he begins rock climbing to get to the detonator)
Looks like they copied some stuff from Point Break. Or maybe were inspired by it
toms hair and look, absolute best..
The legendary Tom cruise and did no one notice that yet another legend has given the music for this movie - Hans Zimmer. The guitar in the background is still timeless.
You guys remember when toms stunts used to be rock climbing or something like that instead of driving a motorcycle off of a damn cliff into a basejump? 😂
I'd much rather jump off a cliff with a motorcycle than rock climb like this
Exactly, I dont understand what is special about a motorcycle basejump (compared to a regular basejump of course)
@@andik70 One is done with a motorcycle, the other is not. Thats it 😂
@@andik70 Legit the actual difference in safety is minimal. Like the only danger to the motorcycle is if you are unable to properly get off the motorcycle mid air which is unlikely to happen
free climbing would be a greater rush... greater fear...
It’s absolutely crazy how much movies influence us as individuals and society itself. This scene definitely inspired some people to take up rock climbing, and some of them may have made careers in that industry, whether it be a supervisor/belay guy at a indoor rock wall, a employee at a outdoors/mountaineering store, or really athletic rock climbers out there pushing the limits.
I'm too old for this now... my heart can't take it anymore... it was fine back then when the movie first released..
Tom cruise movies are really a blast to see I enjoy a lot of them!
Watched it in the year 2000. Me and my friends thought that this scene must have done in a green screen for sure. 19 years fast forwarded saw a behind the scene of this. 😮
Not sure why MI2 gets so much hate. It’s a pretty awesome John Woo action flick.
It’s only weakness is being the least amazing part of an almost unnaturally amazing series of action movies.
It's not hate, it's just that when ranking all the MI movies, one has to be at the bottom. For many of us fans, MI2 is that spot.
I honestly rank it above 3. Three felt like a run of the mill TV spy episode
one of my favorites from the whole series so far
It is not, and you can totally watch the whole series without and it wouldn´t make any diference, try and you will see.
This was such a hyped up scene for the movie, it became almost iconic
It did become iconic, not almost...
I am profesional rock climber 5 years, this is downright comical to watch. 😂😂
Sound mix from Limp Bizkit is really awesome, brings back so many memories.
stop showing your age
Tom Cruise is impressive.
But the cameraman did it with one hand and of course, while holding the camera.
helicopter shot
This movie resonates with me cuz growing up when I was 6 in 2000, listening to Limp Bizkit and loved these movies this year. M:I2 really sits w me and will be for the rest of my life.
This was the one of the coolest movie that had come out back then.
I remember I was only excited for the Matrix. And later MI2 i was so keen. Had the cassette with the songs.
I remember watching this & Gladiator often on a VCD later.
Can you belive this MI 2 start fliming in late 1999 !!! It 24 years ago , 23 years theartical released
Masterpiece! One of my all time faves.... without a doubt!
what a beautiful face Claudia...without a doubt!
I remember watching this one in the theater, was just a kid, I liked it a lot. Recently rewatched, still like it😂.
My favorite installment in the series, but I love all of them. This one just had a lot of elements that made it somehow better.
Like the epic bike chase?
The best one is MI:III the opening scene is even better than this one, even if it seems impossible.
Hans Zimmers music. Elevates this above all the rest. It separates this from all the rest
@Elias Vivancos yah I think 2, 3, and 4 are maybe the best, but I do really like 5 and 6. Excited about MI 7 and 8, Dead Reckoning.
@Elias Vivancos Yah I love part 3 too. Damn good movie, and maybe the best antagonist of the franchise in Philip Seymour Hoffman.
My heart beats so fast by just watching him climbing
This scene will always be part of the highlight reel of my childhood memories.
3:18 camera in the reflection
For those wondering if Tom Cruise really did this....
In a 2000 interview with UKC, Mission: Impossible 2 cameraman and experienced climber Earl Wiggins broke down the sequence. He explained that Cruise trained for Mission: Impossible 2's rock climbing scene with stunt double Ron Kauk, who would also escort him into position for each shot. The climbing was filmed over five days, while winches were also used to get the star in and out of position for the scene. For the moment where Hunt - who has "died" in several Mission movies - slips down and holds on to the overhang, Wiggins revealed Cruise's double Keith Campbell did that particular stunt.
"Hunt - who has "died" in several Mission movies" huh.. what?
so he didn't is the answer. it is called video editing. young people be brave but don't be stupid and throw your life away
So this stunt double does the dangerous work like going to Oprah or the Oscars🤨
They filmed the slip scene in reverse
other fun fact: I grew up in the town where Ron Kauk lived. He handed out Cliff™ bars every Halloween.
I love the Limp Bizkit M.I. version, just so damn good!!!
Diarrhoea sounds a lot better than Limp Bizkit.
@@fabio78 LB was the shit man. You’re just a hater.
No one likes limp bizkit....and if you do you should not tell people. That's sad.
@@Bryce3189 That's not true. People like Bizkit.
@@Bryce3189huh? Then why are they famous?
I was 11 years old and I was so blown away by this intro. I thought Tom cruise was the epitome of cool lol. I adopted the characters persona when I left the theatre. I even asked my mother to buy me similar glasses for my birthday. Nostalgia.
this movie gets so much hate, in my opinion its a fantastic movie and my favourite in the francise, that early 2000's atmosphere is hard to beat
Best opening sequence for a action fil m in decades❤💣
The first time I saw this scene in a movie theater, and even today when I see it again, I tense up and my palms sweat. I don't know if Tom Cruise really did this climb for real, or if it's just a visual effect, but I'm always impressed.
He did climb, although there were safety wires
@@tk36864 He had cables hooked to him but they were digitally removed.
At 1:24 he actually falls off, but they cut to another shot of him still sliding. This must've taken so many takes.
The first time you saw this in theaters no one gave a single fuck. We still dont.

Thank you for taking part of your time to tell me this, your opinion changed my life.
marvelous CGI. even today it looks great.
Greatest Mission Impossible movie and for its time. Movie like this are not made anymore, its so sad!
❤️So Frickin COOL!
One of the best intro scene ever! Period!
No one:
Tom Cruise: What if we start with a cliffhanger?
This makes my hands and feet sweat.
Same
3:54 3 more seconds and he was going to go blind in the middle of nowhere
Director: nailed it
Producers: perfect
Cruise: couldn't get any better
Guy in charge of choosing music: didn't show up to work that day
Even the background music doesn’t want to disturb Tom.
Ah, the Mission Impossible series! Many, many good-to-great movies and also Mission Impossible 2!
Perfect MI Series review does not exi...
Please. Stop acting like Mission Impossible 2 is Speed 2 or Quantum of Solace.
That's impossible
Each time I watch this scene, gives me a goose bumb.
I loved this movie as much as the other ones in the series.... i thought Tom was fantastic and super stylish.
The music in this scene is pretty much similar to intro scene in Rainman where the car gets lowered. Both given by Hans Zimmer, so understandable.
MI2 is the best Mission Impossible Film ever !
Thank you John Woo for all this magic
That spy music is freaking amazing!
I fell in love with MI franchise after this iconic scene
MI2 was my fav movie when I was a kid - still Epic today
This very scene never gets old 🧓
This was one of my favourite childhood films 🙌
My top 3 favorite movies of all time. Went to see that movie 4 times when it was released.
what top 3 of all time? You need to watch more, Tom Cruise alone has 7 other movies that are classic in fact all except the two with Nicole kidman.
He was distracted no offence to NK.
@@waynecanterbury2312lol facts mission impossible is easily the worst of the franchise and there is 7 movies total lol
I've always loved MI:2, I think it's the best one they ever did. Maybe cos i'm Aussie.. haha
Yes I thought the opening was really unbelievable and so well done, and I thought it was filmed in Australia 👍Aussie to
I'm so thrilled they shot it in Australia.
Perfect landscape for this movie, love it.
@@jdsk8914 Dude it was shot in Utah. And I'm Australian btw. There are scenes shot in darling harbour, Sydney, but the rock climbing scene was USA.
Up there with the Top Gun opening scene as some of the most epic opening scenes ever
My palms got ultra tingly and sweaty watching the climbing....
If he died recklessly climbing this mountain without a rope, just think of how many would have died in the Mission impossible works without him.
In the behind scennes he does have ropes
He was harnessed here. Then digitally removed.
Such an awesome scene and the movie is a major guilty pleasure
5 seconds passed already and he was still holding it
Some say that Tom still does this workout daily before his working day.
Damn!
TC must be awesome as hell to slide down a cliff, hang on by his FINGERTIPS, and then just decide to hang on by ONE HAND for no reason other than catch his breath!!
It's a good thing the camera's were there to savour the experience
Though I'm a fan of the franchise, I do struggle to find much love for this instalment - but it does have its moments.
True
Mission impossible 2 is my favourite of all seasons....
Ignore all the other negative stuff you read about him, and just enjoy the movies he makes. Works for me =]
🍷👍 You have chosen to ignore plain useless 'noise'.. That's always a good thing!
Yeah my thoughts exactly ! Enjoy the movies
This scene is also very famous in China when I was a teenager. That’s actually how I know who is Cruise
Say what you want about cruise but he's the true Last Action Hero. Can't even imagine his insurance costs.
Fell in love with the music as a kid.. and still love ❤️ it 😊

This is my favorite MI movie! Haha this intro could not be more fake but so cool
When it's a Tom Cruise movie, nothing is fake. Tom actually did this stunt himself, with safety harness ofcourse.
@@sanjitsiriguppi832 and he is one of the few not using stunt doubles, you are 100 right, I was referring to the fact that without harnes and ropes it would have been imposible to land from one peak to another and also stop a free fall just with your fingers, I never said it was not a real shot and enviroment, I was just talking about the physics

This was a great era. The 90s had finally ended and people were waiting for where the trend would go. I had exactly the same hair and similar outfits as Cruise here, and man did it go down well with the chicks. The film's visuals, music, and Asian dramatics also felt cool and new. I must have seen it three times in the theatres.
I don't know why but I just love this movie, the action and the soundtrack ofcourse.❤
Not only is it pointless, it is also insanely dangerous
I just wish from God to keep Tom Cruise safe throughout these stunts. Some of them are extremely dangerous even if cautious are being taken.
3:20 I like that he is slowly and perfectly rotating his head while looking at the message.
Actually he is standing still. The camera is panning in arc when they are showing his face but the camera shouldnt pan when he is viewing the message as he is standing still.
