Is there any update on the letter or response from the seller?
@@moisesalcala7450 I'm sure legally there probably is lol
TommyFyeah restores skylines Kalvin he's a you tuber got his own place in conneticut 😀😀
I was hoping to see more progress. But rust all over the car... Very sad. Keep the good work! Do you consider those dry ice clean?
make a iphone case ill buy it
Kalvin restoring his GTR to an N1 level spec GTR just how Nissan did it and I’m all here for it! It’s looking epic already.
I would get that underside sandblasted to really see what rust your running into, to really see what you're dealing with. for someone who went to school for autobody and lives in Minnesota (winter+salty roads+metal=rusty cars) and we see a lot of them. You sound like you know what you're doing but any help makes life easier.
100% needs blasting and rust proofing.
Couple of years cancer will be back.
@@Oldhex1978 He is correct, rust is a parasite, even though you don't see it, I guarantee it will come back eventually
Well any little spec of rust dust could start it again so you have to be extremely thorough and conscious of this. Take extreme measures to make sure all rust dust is cleaned and neutralized Not to discourage you at all just putting it out there for best results for you Kalvin.
Can't you just basecoat the whole thing with a rust converter paint? Since it's all disassembled might as well...
@@bubbathemaster the only issue is making sure it gets into every nook and cranny but that's just a band aid not a permanent fix
We're in it! Good thing rust was at a minimal.
To a minimal*
Rust is not to a minimal, its a maximal.
Bag it all up and post to the scammer who sold you the car.
" Rust is to a minimal" Needs to be a worldwide meme for any rusty JDM car. ( All jokes aside really sorry this happened to you and can't wait to see you restore it
yes im gonna start saying that now
Ive seen and rebuilt worse. You've got the skills and time to make this so beautiful. The tin foil was a shocker though.
if anyone can get this car straight its Kalvin, his attention to detail is unmatched.
Thanks Michael. You know I love those details.
We all agree that the re-repainting of the Z engine bay kind of told us that lmaoo
Can't wait to see the "Complete R32 GTR Build in 10 minutes" video.. We're witnessing history!
im VERY glad you decided to make this a video and that you are a RUclipsr. I know people with probably twice or 3x your skill who LET cars die sitting half cut in their garage for 20 years until they forgot what it was they were even doing and sell/scrap it because they started with something that required ambition twice as high as the task itself and there was nothing to hold them up to their intentions to fix it. With you having a channel, you have a drive that goes beyond your personal motivation alone because I know for damn sure it's not easy to follow through and finish an endeavor like this.
"its not worth the time/effort" are the same ppl who complain about how many cool cars aren't on the road anymore, or how car producers aren't making any new cool new cars. Props to you for putting in real time to fix up a classic right bc you'll enjoy it more, and well, someone will enjoy it in the future.
I was randomly suggested your initial video where you walked around looking at all the problems, and now ive subbed. The extra time and work is already creating great content and will pay off in the end. The rotisserie is sick and i will definitely be taking your plans for my own.
just found your channel and your restoration series, and from one rust bucket owner to another i just want to say "thank you!". You gave me the vibe i needed to start working on my car's rust issues.
Appreciate you man!
Watching this from Australia! Best thing you have done and for upcoming work on the shell is build that rotisserie. I too have done the same to one of my projects and it’s the way to go for quality work! If you haven’t already, get yourself some upol weld through primer, great stuff especially seeing as though you’ll be looking at replacement OEM panels which overlap as the seams. I feel your pain but yet you’re still determined, keep at it!
There is so much love in this comment section. This is going to be an epic part of RUclips’s history with this restoration. A bad situation is probably going to turn into one of the best examples of a Nissan Skyline stateside. Go Kalvin Go!!
I just want to say, don't feel too much pressure and take your time! Seems like it will be quite the project and it will probably affect you mentally, because of wanting to do it perfect for yourself and an online audinence. Just remind yourself that you do it for yourself and in the end it will be all worth it. and we are just hopping along for this cool ride.
Good luck man!
Thanks for this comment dude. Appreciate you 🤍
New subscriber (caught your original video on the rust for the R32). Whoever says that this isn't worth restoring is wrong. You're an absolute gangster for doing this. Literally anyone else in your position would have given up the minute they got the car. I'm glad that I get to see you restore this thing to its former glory. Can't wait to watch the full series as you continue working on the car!
It sucks and I remember you posting on FB about it. But I have no doubt you will have one of the best R32s out there. Not only that, you are refreshing an old car and as you mentioned, people restore cars all the time. While I'm in the same boat of rebuilding my Infiniti M30 (coupe with rb25det) from the ground up, the car isn't as extensive as your car. Here's the thing.. you are saving an older car and not many people are doing these at the level to keep these cars around. While my car is obscure and nobody really cars about them, I love it and it's the car I don't mind saving. Definitely love seeing your approach on how you are gonna do this. While people say it isn't worth it... I always wonder why can't we rebuild the cars we enjoy, even though it isn't a 50s-70s car. Keep up the good work!
Befor you cut away quarter panel, wait until you get the new panel. Then you see how far up you can cut away the old one!
They make full replacement so all you have to do is drill out old pinch welds and re-pinch weld it 👌
@@920.streetstyle Spot weld
@@920.streetstyle Ok. So you get the hole quarter panel up to roof( with quarter window opening)?
@@920.streetstyle Do they still make them I thought they were discontinued by Nissan already.
@@Wolf-or6ws think they’ve started making some parts again to help bring down the prices as it’s going mental… not sure though 😅
Every car guy, or woman should e subscribed to this channel. Really looking forward to the build.
This is a sick restoration so far! I can really respect your attention to detail and honesty. Big props man.
Hey thanks dude I appreciate that 🤙🏽
@@KalvinMalli No problem, the content is really inspiring.
Also try to talk with Sammit he might be your guy to get some 32 parts as he’s right up in the skyline community there
Your one of the very first RUclipsr I subscribed to. I followed your channel from the beginning. The quality of your work over the years keeps crowing by the day. It's always nice to watch your vlogs, only to bad we don't see much of you any more, as we used to. Meaby we will see your gtr fully restored on the SEMA floors again. Keep up the good work dude.👌👍
Come on bro, please add the rust is to a minimal more often. Every time u do, it’s so hilarious. I might take it and put it in my brothers music, you might be on to something with that "rust is to a minimal " 🤣😂🤣
Impressed with the level of patience and dedication you have to deal with the countless issues this car has presented so far. It's been a real journey so far and I hope we all get to finally see the end product. Keep up the good work!
I know you took a big L buying this car. But really it was a blessing in disguise bc this car when it’s done will be 10x better than any other “clean” example of a gtr you could’ve bought! This way you will know 100% how every inch of this car is holding up
I think you are doing the right thing restoring your R32 in this way. You will end up with an excellent example and you have the comfort of knowing it's been done properly. Not a hack job The work on the engine bay looks awesome
16:22 bro absolutely man. so excited to see the final product!!!!!
Real happy to hear you say you are 100% committed. Your attention to detail is insane man I can just see the future now.
🙌🏽🙌🏽🙏🏽
Man, I never doubted for a second that you were gonna kill this build. You’re more than capable of bringing this thing back to good.
Much appreciated dude. It’s going to be one for the books no doubt.
Keep going Kalvin, rooting for you on this one, dig deep and stay positive. Will purchase some merch to support, come on peeps lets help Kalvin and get this done.
Thanks a bunch man. Really does mean a lot homie 🤙🏽✊🏽
Dude, what are you doin now it gonna be so badass.don't give up!
I've seen so many restorations like this drag on for over 5 years. Good luck and hope you stay motivated throughout the process. Also, maybe stay away from the sand blasting idea. Sand residue will get inbetween every nook and cranny which would make it impossible to completely remove. Soda blasting would be a better option in my opinion.
That was my first thought/concern about sand blasting too! Have you heard of dry ice blasting? I saw it for the first time recently on Tavarish's channel and the results are unreal!!! Essentially you're doing media blasting, but with a media that just turns to gas and disappears immediately after its done its work. Not many sandblasting options that have the benefit of not dealing with cleaning up the media afterwards. :D
Or a chemical dip
Nissan from the 80s to 90s is also rust bucket. But props for you man. Passion right there!
Amazing, you’re doing god’s work haha! Love seeing these kind of restorations on my favorite cars.
Keep striving man🏁, I can’t wait to see how the GTR looks at the end 💯
This is the gift that keeps on giving (and its not a good gift). Hopefully it builds your channel. Love the GTR content.
Thanks dude 👍🏽
Love the positive attitude Kalvin, even after being shat on from a great height. Oh and i'm still after one of those rust is to a minimal stickers when they come out.
Thanks man!
Sand/media blast the whole car mate, rust will return in few years even if you miss just a little bit.
Pretty dope how you rebuilding it instead of giving up like others dope asf bro
💪🏽💪🏽
"I do like the foil" .... i can hear the anger in your voice.
Looking forward to the build you sound motivated. Whether thats through love or anger we will never know 🙂
Rust is to a minimum.
Great series, subbed!
You got this man ! I believe in ya - watching your vid fires up my inspiration as I 1v1 rust on my S13 down here in Australia - keep at it bro !
Thanks dude!!
Hey man, really dig your videos and following you on this journey of doing your best to restore this scamtrap. I just wanted to ask one thing - I think it would make a huge difference for your discoverability as well as making it easier for people like me to follow you along. PLEASE consider making a sequential playlist with all your videos, per car model! I think it would really help out. Can't wait for the next GTR vid!
As a 2005-2010 Mazda owner, rust is like my nemesis. This project is what I DREAM to do with one of my cars.
Much love from the UK man, love your determination to save her, brilliant honesty which is why I'm watching 💪💪
Its easy for viewers to underestimate the mega job that this is. Im currently derusting the rear suspension on my forester, and its a ton of work even just cleaning up the parts for paint.
Its a lot of work for sure
Bro i wish you all the best with this. Such a BIG under taking IF THERE IS ANYONE OUT THERE SPONSOR HIM HELP HIM OUT. when this is done hands down king of the streets.
keep pushing bro. Mad respect! love your channel! You will learn alot from this project our hearts are with u! Hope u get some money back from the dealer!
It’s always a cool day when I get that notification for a Kalvin vid 😎
I am in the exact spot with my project car build, crazy amount of work and fabrication without an unlimited budget. You’ve been my motivation with this build so far man! Keep it up, based on your other builds this will be perfect. Just picked up a hoodie from the site 🤙
We got this dude. One step at a time.
i have the same rust issues with my r34 sedan and i am working really hard to get everything restored. watching this video motivates me more.
I haven't done it myself so I can't confirm it but I think dry ice is a good way to remove sound deadening! Love the vids! Keep up the great work!
Oh hell yeah man. Dry ice is the way! Makes it pretty dang easy for sure.
I've watched all your vids by the way man, I love the way you work, it's refreshing, so many people just bodge and make do, you get it right. Best way to be, props man from the UK
Thanks man I appreciate that. 🙏🏽
Much love to the uk. Got a lot of family there.
@@KalvinMalli awesome man. Gonna be so good the day that 32 is done 👌
Hey Kalvin. I don't usually post on RUclips but you're doing a killer job bro, keep up the hard work and it will pay off. I have a r32 gtr myself and you've motivated me to keep working on it. You're very informative and I'm learning so much from watching your videos. Keep it up!
🤍🤍
So glad to see you've got a bit more motivation for the build now man. You don't look as drained when you talk about the car, you seek excited to rip into it. As other people have said, take your time and make sure you're happy with the work - we're not pushing you for a deadline, we're just happy to see it happen 🙌🏻 Might go an order some "Rust is to a minimal" merch, will have to wear it while I work on my rusty old EK hatch 🤣
Appreciate you Anton 💪🏽💪🏽
10:36 Me after the last rustpiece fell wherever it was falling into: *What in the woooorld duuude!*
You are insane at this restoration stuff can’t wait to see the end product
Looking forward to seeing the repair work!
Thanks David!
This series is legendary cant wait for the outcome
My advice to you is do one side at a time so you can make sure each side is oem. Also if you decide to remove those lower frame rails make or buy a tram guage and write all your measurements. It would suck when your done to hang the door and find out it hits bc the body twisted while being on the rotisserie.
OH WOW. Not great, NOT TERRIBLE. Cant wait for your next upload perhaps the thumb will be found. UNREAL !
LUV UR POSTS !!👍👍
Thank you!
“If you guys wanna buy some merch, he he, link below, he he” bro this sent me 😂😂😂 def gonna buy some merch
Damn dude...dealt a bad card. On the flip side it does make great content! Keep posting vids its interesting.
RUST IS TO A MINIMAL, my new band name
Here in the uk 🇬🇧 , back in the day i restored 1970's +Mini coopers and Ford Cortinas. Seen it all. From card board to Corned beef tins. Never be surprised was our little moto.. i do think that you need to cut your losses and have it Acid dipped. What you find around that bulk head might be worth it! To me, looks like this is salt water damage would not be surprised if it was pulled from the Ocean and not treated and repaired properly. Good luck bud. 👍
If this was mine and I was going to keep it forever, I would probably convert it to LHD. Use and adapt as many OEM nissan parts as possible to do it and then offer that service to customers. Anyone who has ever owned a RHD car knows what a pain they are here in the US. NOTHING is setup in the US for RHD unless you're a mail man lol. Plus it's always fun to be the 1st to do something groundbreaking like that.
Hey kalvin. Found your channel because of the unfortunate R32. But watched your whole Z32Jz build and have no concerns with you turning this into the perfect 32GTR
Hey thanks Dude appreciate that✊🏽
Your attention to detail is honestly so inspiring. Fan and fellow garage builder from Aus! Owned an s15 and built a BMW E30 M52 swap from ground up... But damn dude nothing on your level. You're inspiring me to step up my game and built some confidence to tackle some challenges that I didn't feel capable of. Best of luck with the build and definitely future long term follower
I just subscribed to this after seeing the video back a few months about all the issues with this car. I really want to see how this turns out. Talk about a monumental undertaking. I wish you well my friend.
Thank you 🙌🏽
Dude that 300zx is sick!
Thanks man!!
Keep it up bro you got it don’t loose faith in this build hands down gonna be the best car on RUclips 👍
🙌🏽
Keep it up man! Cant wait to see it all come together!
Good luck. Will be watching. Excited to see the end product!
Thank you!
i looove the rev at end of videoooo
I will watch all of this GTR Content!!! And all of your videos!
🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Braver man than me that's a hell of a job man, good luck with it. Subbed!
Appreciate that dude 👍🏽
@@KalvinMalli do you ship your merch to the UK? I need a Malli motorworks hat man. Love the way you work, I'm the same, do it right or don't do it.
Can't wait to see how this build goes man!
When cutting off a quarter panel or floor pan you have to weld In Bracing inside the car so the structure doesn't crease or flex
Nahh, there’s a lot more on a gtr that holds their structure than some 20ga panels.
@@KalvinMalli 18 Gauge
@@StabTheDabb An 18ga panel? Lol Yeah maybe on a HMMWV
If you haven’t already contact Steve from SR Autobodies in the UK. Guys a god with skyline restoration work and makes quite a few repair panels.
Also be careful about removing too many panels at a time and cutting different areas out at the same time as on that rack the chassis will flex without supports and you’ll struggle to get it straight again
Man a complete resto like this is what I plan on doing to my manual Maxima with a 3.5 turbo, bored to a 3.8L with all the bells and whistles
NISSAN4LIFE
Yougotdis
Man is building a who new car. Hats off to you because it hurts my brain thinking about how much work and skill this will take.
Super late but I peeped the merch lol but get this car looking how you want it people suck but you got the right support
You are a strong person bro. No way I could deal with this shit. You were seriously screwed. I hope you are going to bust out the place you got this from.
Hey obviously don't want this situation to happen to anyone with how rough this car is but it honestly good it happened to you to see this car get saved because I guarantee almost nobody else would go to these lengths to save a car in this shape besides a select few including yourself
Keep up the good work!!! This will be a career defining build, people will be talking about it for years!!!
Mate, this is a huge project and a loooooot of work ahead, but super excited to watch you built it up into a dream beast machine. All the best! Looking forward to watching you tackle it :)
Amazing. You are gonna be so satisfied driving this car once it’s done
Huge undertaking but what a way to show case your skills and promote your shop, and in the end you'll have one of America's finest examples of a GTR. My truck is always available as a tow rig when I'm home, just hit me up 😎
Thanks homie I appreciate you 🙌🏽🍻
I locked in for this Journey, can’t wait
I respect your level of commitment not going to lie the amount of work youre putting in is insane i would have tried everything to get some money back from the shitty seller then sold the car to some fan boy that didnt care about the rust and just took a little loss and tried to get another later in time...but like i said no shade youre a beast for taking on this project
Sacrifice the engine bay for the acid dip. Overall it’ll be a better job.
It’s a battle I’m fighting at the moment
You will wish you had vs the lost weeks work in the bay.
Been their done that.
isnt acid dipping this car quite risky?
@@puskas_baller in what way? Looking at that shell it would be the only way to go to get it to where he wants.
@@dipeshpankhania these days with electrolysis, phosphate dips and electrostatic application of primer and specific drying processes where the body is essentially baked dry it may be perfectly safe for J cars, e-coating apparently does a good job. its just worth considering thats all
I'd sodablast the whole car and put in all new panels. This would also give you a chance to stitch-weld the car to make the chassis extremely rigid. Massive PITA, but it seems that your shop has flexibility to let you work on your own stuff. You'll have a Skyline that's better than 90% of the other ones.
Good luck buddy ill be watching the progress
Cheers pal ✊🏽
The seller should give you at least half the purchase price back, rust makes me so depressed on a car. I've seen rust on a car before and i felt like it should've been at the junk yard lol
Trust me. I hate rust. And I’ve told myself plenty of times I’d never work on a car with rust again. Never say never I guess.
@@KalvinMalli Knowing you, You will make it Nissan Spec from the factory! love the content, keep grinding my guy
Ohhhhhh yeaahhhhhh Good work Sir Lets make this car FEELING The Gods
You should get a endoscopic camera for checking frame rails. you can get em pretty cheap now. Not sure of the quality but they like plug in to you're phone I think.
LOVE 💘 THE CONTENT BRO KEEP IT UP THIS RIDE IS GONNA BE 🤢 SICK
This is like the beans 86, but it’ll be a true one of a kind build man. Keep that motivation up :)
You have to get new bolts and nuts for the car in the end. That makes a huge difference
You might want to reach out to Sammit, he knows a place in japan that has all the parts for your R32. He has been to that place several times and there are NOS panels available.
Thanks man. I think I’ve found my source 🙌🏽
I truly hope you get compensated heavily for this situation Kalvin... This is one of the reasons why I have such a distrust with our beloved automotive community. For passionate enthusiasts, it crushing to learn you've been catfushed or played. Those behind this transaction should never be allowed to operate in business, in any form or capacity. We know you'll make the GTR great again.
