Question regarding criticals. when you roll box cars, does it give you an automatic critical roll even if the targeted unit still has armor pips?

Correct. Box cars = crit roll (only once per attack). Any instance of Internal damage = crit roll (only once per attack). If you have anti-mech you can get an additional crit roll. Generally you’ll just be rolling crits from box cars and internal damage though.
