I just wanna say thank you so much! i'm a beginner, i started playing the guitar about three months ago and i just couldn't find an easy enough song that i could learn. i'm a fan of niall and i always wanted to play this song but i just thought it sounded too difficult so i didn't even try. so then i found this video and i realised playing this is actually quite easy and really enjoyable. i started practicing with this song. i'm so happy, it's really good to be able to play a song that you love and this video was the most helpful thing i've found since i started playing, you're really good at teaching. it's the first song i've learned thanks so much

im a total novice and i love the video but can someone help me understand why he makes an Em shape if he only picks the 6th, 3rd, and 2nd strings? like I said im a beginner but this seems to not make much sense to me. thanks everyone!!

You can leave that out if you want. I do it because I'm used to. Also, if I wanted to improvise, I have all 6 strings that I can play (including 4th and 5th) since I am holding all the correct notes on Em.
