I always feel like they're the total opposite and there seems to be 'distance' (except during performances), though both are Virgos. Morten happens to be the cheerful Virgo, but both have their different charms. I think the only thing keeping them together are the mutual respect they feel to each other.
I think people see them as not that close for the most part but They were actually the ones that wanted the band back together when they reunited in 2015. Morten had visited Pal in NY a couple times and he had written some songs for a-ha and showed them to Morten and they started working on them together, just the 2 of them initially. Then they got Magne to join them. That album became Cast in Steel. I have seen comments, etc that said they didn't even like each other but if that was true why would Morten visit him when the band was broken up?
Danielle Dredger Didn't know that story. But I guess from my observation, they are better with each other when making music (or like I said, performing). Not saying it's a bad thing tho, just a very interesting relationship.
Yes, it is an interesting relationship. I think they do great together on stage, their voices blend well when Pal sings backup. I love them at the South Africa show in 1994 (The Swing of Things, especially) that you can find on here somewhere. Anyway, I saw an interview where Pal talked about the part about him and Morten, then another one where Magne said he had to make the decision whether to block it, let the 2 of them do it alone or join in. Glad he made the choice he did 😊
Yes, I love the Swing of Things video! Have watched it actually. I also love whenever Pal does the backup for Living A Boy's Adventure Tale during the Unplugged concert. Haha indeed a good thing for Mags to join. Couldn't possible imagine A-ha without him :)

C'est ainsi, moi aussi que souvent j'ai composé, beaucoup de compositions mélodiques. Mais.... Non seulement jamais je n'ai pu échanger musicalement avec ce groupe qui me parle tant, juste serrer leur main, prendre une photo avec eux. Ils m'ont tellement accompagné, inspiré, qu'au final, sans les avoir fréquenté, je ressens un vide, terrible. Presque comme si j'avais raté ma vie. Pire encore, malheureusement, pas de bol, je n'ai aucun pote musicien pour combler ce vide. Que deviendront mes chansons quand je mourrai? Je me sens tellement triste.
I think this friendship is the most underrated and the most forgotten in a-ha. We all know about Mags and Morten, or Pål and Mags, but barely Pål and Morten’s friendship is spoken. Morten did help Pål a lot. Maybe, and it’s maybe, but for me, Morten was a role model to Pål. Maybe like his older brother. It’s a very interesting friendship and a very beautiful one.
