You can only catch large numbers of grey squirrels during specific times of the year. They prefer acorns to peanuts or peanut butter, so if there is an oak tree anywhere nearby, you probably wont catch many grey squirrels in the fall when acorns are plentiful. They have an insatiable appetite for acorns and will ignore peanuts when acorns are available. I've tried vacuuming my yard of acorns but that is a waste of time because many more fresh acorns will fall within 24 hours In the winter, they are not active in northern climates and leaving your trap set outside is usually a waste of time and energy, unless it is an unusually warm day. I have my squirrel traps in very close proximity to my bird feeders and that is probably why they are lulled into a false sense of security. They probably think with all the birds chowing down relentlessly, they have discovered the best free banquet in the neighborhood. In the last 6 years I have disposed of over 470 grey squirrels but I get most of them in the early AM in the spring and summer. If you are a late sleeper leave the trap outside over night and hope nothing steals the bait during the night. If you rise early, put the trap out at sunrise. Once it gets too hot outside they retire for the day. I seldom catch any grey squirrels after high noon. if you ever buy another squirrel trap, go with the Havahart model # 1083 EZ-set trap. That is the best trap for grey squirrels by a wide margin. But you have to buy it online. Lowes and Home Depot do not stock that trap for some crazy reason. JM Robert: Do you think this trap would be effective to try and trap starlings ? Starlings are an invasive species that are driving me crazy with my bird feeders. They arrive by the hundreds and they don't leave until every bit of food is gone. Did you find a good price for this trap ? I am going to begin looking for the price and dimensions immediately. Afraid that the mice aren't any less likely to be trapped than the squirrels. Both mice and squirrels are excellent problem solvers when driven by the urge to obtain food, but they are both equally lacking in that attribute that you are projecting onto them: Empathy - the ability to see one of your fellows in an undesirable situation and pause to ponder how they got there and what it feels like to them. The squirrels and mice alike are consumed only with, "I'd better get some of those sunflower seeds before those other bastards eat them all." 😉
@@migbham1 The neighbor across the street from me had her previous house burn down when a mouse got into the back of her refrigerator and chewed the wrong wires. She told me she didn't even know there was a mouse in the house because she never saw it. I have 4 Micro-Processor mouse traps in my garage that are motion activated. Any mouse that goes in, aint coming out alive. And I just noticed they have a larger version for rats now too.
@@ccdogpark That's scary crap, regarding the neighbor's house fire. Wondering to myself whether that trap that's big enough to catch the rat might also work on squirrels. Would you mind, please, sharing the brand of trap you're using? I'm not trying to be funny by saying this - I'm actually serious: I'm considering trying to cook one or two squirrels that I catch, mainly because I feel a bit guilty about just dispatching and tossing them, but also because I've read several places that they are delicious free meat, when cooked properly. There's even a recipe for cider braised squirrel in Bon Appétit's website. The challenge I have is, so far, I've dispatched the ones I've caught with the trap this guy uses by drowning them, and I don't think that would be great if one plans on cleaning and eating them. I mustn't discharge a firearm in my neighborhood, so popping them with a .22 is out of the question. These electronic traps you describe may be just what I'm looking for! All the better if it partially cooks them in the process. 😉

I love how the squirrels end up 'forcing' their way in because it gets crowded. Hahahaha.
Afraid of missing out .
Amazing how these critters are so smart they can get in almost anywhere BUT can't escape a simple fall door trap. Odd that.

Those squirrels sure have some funky coloration.
Where's the black fox?

LOL wow thats awesome... I need this so bad
The idiots just sit there and watch another squirrel walk in instead of trying to get out when the door opens. Not so smart after all, it seems.
Excellent trap. Bought it with the bin. Use only sunflower seeds. Helping greatly ridding my yard of these varmints.

Even mice would realize 5 already trapped mice are "unusual".

Thing of beauty
@Michael, where did you buy this squirrel trapper? Squirrels enjoyed the peanut party.
is this a trap you buy? I need one ! or did you make it, I need plans :)
Go to a fabric store and buy some faux fur, about $5 per yard, put some over your mic to eliminate wind noise.
1st said, don’t come in here, 2nd said, iam coming in/peanuts. See, i told ya, can’t get out, were dead
what size is it please ? measure it thanks
25 in. x 25 in. x 5 in.
Michael Murchison .
Good job it works great .
With how much money did you build it?
Yes I finally seen one in my back yard in hannibal mo
A black squirrel
I hear it up in my ceiling in I know that's what it is cause it be outside on my porch and they leave dropping
I think food should be in other box place, that squirrels can't touch!
What did you use for bait?
hole corn & molasses........ Sweet feed, dry dog food
Did you build this trap or purchase it?
+John D They bought it at this site thetrapmaker.com/traplist.htm
I build them here at the ranch, !5 miles west of Red Bluff Ca.
It's the Squirrelinator. It's well known for being a really good multiple live-catch trap.

You can say that again.
I'm sure he released them... Into a tub full of water so that he could empty his trap and catch more.

It just occurred to me in watching this video again,
this trap would probably be very effective trapping starlings too.
