Come along on the first non-stop EWR-HKG. The Inaugural of CO flight 99 on March 1, 2001, the first commercial plane to fly over the North Pole in scheduled service!
Great coverage! We don't think much of flights between NYC and HK today, but this was a truly historic moment back in 2001. It was the first time NYC and HK were connected by a non-stop flight, and was the longest nonstop flight in the world by a pretty significant margin back then. Plus, it established the Boeing 777 as perhaps the world's most capable ultra long haul aircraft and paved the way for twinjets to fly long haul
Louis Ho you are quite observant- that flight was actually from Shanghai but only someone very astute would notice - I figured it would end the film better than leaving it at HKG - on this trip I had returned via SIN and NRT

there still wasn't entertainment on the back of seats? did they show multiple movies?
In business they had screens, they came out of the armrests, I don't know about back in economy.
