- I've decided to revisit this game to improve on my score I did at Galloping Ghost Arcade last month. While I did 1cc it there, I relied pretty heavily on the shop items to carry me through the tough areas of the game.
I wanted to see if I could a better run with less purchased at the shop, and therefore scoring higher. Like most Capcom games of this era, the less you spend at the shop, the bigger your end-game bonus is, as all leftover cash gets converted to points.
In this run, I managed a decent improvement and got a score that I am satisfied with (for now). With this run, I placed # 2 on the shmups forum leaderboard (shmups.system11.org) which is a great place to learn and see where you stack up against other players from around the world.
One other key aspect to scoring (other than the money) is picking up all the hidden items that are in the background. These are worth 10,000 points each and there are a total of 10 in the game, so that is a decent amount to get (or miss!)
Another scoring tactic is one that I unfortunately didn't do as well as I'd hoped is the "perfect" stage bonuses. If you managed to shoot down all enemies in any given stage, at the end of the level you get a point and cash reward. In this run I only managed half of them, and I can usually get 7/10 in practice runs.
Finally, there exists ways to cheat the shop in this game. You can essentially "steal" items without lowering from your cash total, but this is only possible using autofire. All scores above 2.4 million used this tactic; It adds considerably more potential to your score because you get a end of level "credit" for not using all your purchased weapons.
Final score = 2,209,760 points
Played on default difficulty without autofire. Recorded with wolfmame .190, and as with all my runs - no TAS (tool assistance), cheats, hacks or save states are used. INP file availble on MARP: replay.marpirc....
As always, thank you for watching!
In 1993, I beat this game with just one credit. Imagine the celebration in the arcade! When I looked back, there were about 20 people. I was only 11 years old
beating the game with all those people watching had to feel amazing!
Beyond any doubt you are really a living legend. Gigantic performance. Channel subscribed
wow, thank you so much for the compliment!
Also thanks for subscribing, I hope you enjoy my newer and upcoming gameplay.
dramatic ending, as you take down the final enemy a stray missile hits your ship, nearly bringing you down too. It's even reflected in the final cut scene XD
yeah, was too close - I was worried I would not survive!
The final sound is the same as Street Fighter 2 but with some minor changes.. :)
Great game and great work.
But what is it with that ending.
The version i played when I was a kid, both planes went down into the water after you take out the satellit.
Wish you had selected the F-14 Tomcat over the F/A-18 Hornet, other than that great video. Didn't know there was a successor to U.N. Squadron (used to love that game in the arcades).
thank you! I wish I could have selected the F-14 but from a gameplay perspective it doesn't do as well the Hornet so to make the game game more manageable I couldn't.
I also love Area 88 / UN Squadron, probably more than this game. I appreciate it's shorter length and like it's soundtrack slightly more.
Thank you for checking out my video, I appreciate it!
Best airplane game ever
Yeah, it's really good! 👍
I slightly prefer UN Squadron (aka Area 88) over it's this one, but you can't go wrong either way.
Your STG skills are elite status im going to check and see if you did any more shoot em up 1cc's - Edit welp that answers my question 😂
haha, yeah - horizontal (side scrolling) shooters are some of my favorite games so you'll see quite a few on my channel! :)
Very good & you resisted the urge to spend money on additional firepower.
Thanks, was trying to up my score by saving the money to be converted to points at the end of the game. Makes it a lot more challenging!
Nice, played it alot.
thanks, it's a great game for sure!
Classic game.
Very good but let’s see if u can do ANY of the Metal Slug games on 1 CREDIT particularly Metal Slug 3 😏
I've considered trying out the first Metal Slug; I haven't played any of them seriously, mostly due to their length and also reliance on both point pressing and secrets to score well.
I'm not entirely opposed to just playing them to try to get a 1 credit clear, however.
Thanks for watching!
Pete Hahn exactly. They are very long and difficult. But if anyone can do just a 1 credit clear it’s u. MS3 would be really impressive. Think it’s the toughest I played start to end
@@Pete_Hahn Don't ever play Metal Slug for score... it ruins all the fun of them. Constant bullet milking with massive slowdown. Playing them for 1cc is the way to go. 1 Life Clear if anything, but playing for score is boring.
@@dr_ubo cool, thank you for the info. I've been eyeing the first Metal Slug lately, maybe after another beat 'em up or 2 I've been meaning to clear first.
This was before U.N. Squadron, correct?
This game came out after UN Squadron by like a year, I believe.
@@Pete_Hahn Wow! That’s disappointing.
Hi. I suscribe your channel. Big Like
Thank you very much for subscribing, I appreciate it!
Juegaso ❤❤❤
Dear share link to download this game
Very Gude
thank you!
How is this a sequel? UN squardon had way more character , better music , better bosses , better stages
I agree, in several ways this game is a step backwards. I think this game only really appeals to the expert shmup players who liked UN Squadron but wanted more challenge and a deeper scoring system.
America
Outrageous, and I will repeal it
