What I really love about this animation is how the writer put Sonic's personality in the events and subtly explained all the things from the classic games we just take at face value: the tunnels are rabbit holes, the placement of badniks are formations, the markers are communication to Robotnik, the Special Zone is created by the emeralds themselves, the wrecking ball from the first boss is actually earth, etc etc. They are all very creative solutions to questions a lot of fans probably didn't even know they had. Good job!

I think you give too much credit to the writer, this was animated by one person only! Though i think it was written too by the animator

I love that each Badnik is represented in this animation, and that there’s commander versions of existing ones. Hope this continues with future episodes where sonic has to tangle with at least one of each badnik type and we get a commander to each zone.
I have been waiting years for this and the wait was absolutely worth it! Everything was incredible! Awesome job! 🙌🏼

It's rare to find such a giant of fandom still alive and kicking after such a period of time. I expected the last video to be from give or take 7 years.

Dang! I was not expecting something so enthralling! The animation, the voice acting, the story and how you all utilize the various elements from different Sonic Media into this production. This show NEEDS to be on TV.

Honestly I'd be more into this than Sonic Prime, despite being a retelling of the first game, with the additional details from other media, I think this has great potential to be a fully realized world, with unique places and people rather than being stuck with alternate dimension counterparts for everything

Really crazy how you did all this yourself. I was expecting something akin to Sonic Paradox with different animators. This is really well made (I’ll bet translating the Special Stage was a nightmare) but I’m looking forward to more!

Wow... I can't believe how incredible this was. The action and fight choreography were really something to behold. When I saw the credits I genuinely couldn't believe there was only one animator credit. I knew TheWax was passionate and talented, but I didn't expect something this ambitious.
I absolutely loved it! I had a smile on my face the entire time. TheWax did an absolutely beautiful job on the animation. And the voice acting was phenomenal as well. Can’t wait for more!

To be honest the animation felt more like a fanimation than an official animation.
I found it kinda choppy in places.
@@mrmanakin9684For me that can be part of the appeal, but it definitely does get on my nerves on rare occasions. The real winner here is the amount of detail and effort that went into making every scene count. Even if the animation gets choppy, it's absolutely full of cool visuals!
Now if they had some extra animators, this would all be a different story..

It’s awesome seeing this completed after seeing previews via social platforms or elsewhere a few years ago. Wax really killed it with a lot of specific combat related movement (among other moments as well), it’s so fluid and kinetic.

IT'S FINALLY HERE!! I first watched these on TheWax70's channel, and I loved them so much there, but now with the extra bits I didn't see and the added music and voices, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS! So, I see we're trying to link the movie world with the regular world, PLUS OVA?? This is incredible! Love all the ideas, the animation is spectacular, and the end credits animation was so good oh my gosh 🤩😭

Woah. I remember seeing previews of this animation years ago… this is absolutely amazing!
So many references and details! The plot points that were integrated into this story really impressed me because it felt so natural whether big or small. Everyone was so expressive from Sonic to Eggman and even the Badniks who do have character which is such a great creative choice although it's not like I've seen it before from this channel. I'm excited to see more of what this series brings!

Outstanding work TheWax! You've truly set a new benchmark for yourself with all of the ideas you've tried in this animation.
It's good to know us fans who watched the livestreams of this project whilst in progress will know this was worth the wait.
Even if only episode one is made, this is still another of the many great animations showcasing Sonic's "That's how it all started" stories in Green Hill zone.
this is genuinely delightful throughout, i love sonic's attitude and the music selection amplifying whats happening on screen, and the little story-based explanations of things like sonic speeding through tunnels in the earth and the placement of the eggman markers. the special stage sequence put a HUGE smile on my face. amazing that i've been seeing videos from this channel since i was a kid and now here i am, in its target demographic, still enjoying it so thoroughly
God, it's such a simple solution to have Sonic already in possession of one emerald to explain there only being 6 chaos emeralds in Sonic 1. It's brilliant.
something I love about thewax way of animating is how expressive and classic Internet feel of animating, like a lovley choppy but smooth feel too it and i love it
Woah!! The voice acting is top notch! And I love how the animation feels almost 1-1 to the games while also giving perfect explanations for all of the unexplained details from the original game. This is beyond brilliant.

I love how y’all kept Sonic with that same attitude he had in the 90’s. Instead of making him look like just a younger, adorable version of Modern Sonic. Really helps showing that classic and Modern are really just the same character. Can’t wait for the second episode!

THE WAX IS BAAAACCCKKKKK
I just stumbled upon this thing entirely and I must say:
I love it. Such awesome and powerful art and thought was clearly put into this creation. It has such a cute art-style that resembles the classic retro sonic games wonderfully, and has such a comedic telling of Sonic's attitude, like with showing the badniks the emerald and yet saying "Nope! Haven't seen it~!", even as a classic/younger version of himself. Not to mention the links to the classic game such as the sign posts, the warp rings to the Chaos Emeralds, dodging the goals to get the gems, even asking the rabbit to use the hole to travel around, and I didn't even know I needed *Graffiti* Sonic in my life to paint upon Ivo Robotnic's sign, as a telling of how Sonic makes the sign his own. And Ivo's wreaking ball being taken as a chunk of the background? Amazing story linkage aswell.
Overall such a wonderful head-canon to the older games in so many ways, and showing the Protagonist and Antagonist meeting and Sonic calling him the big cheese, no, the big Egg is such a great start to how he started calling Eggman.

I had just realized how I reconised the art style! I used to watch the memes of the Sonic Paradox videos long time ago! This feels straight out of *my* childhood, being recent of teenage myself. Such fantastic work guys! Good to see you still at it.
Also wanted to add how I reconised and loved the cockiness and style in each of Sonic's moves. It must of taken such a long to just even storyboard, let alone color and draw every detail!! And the flips, the movement, and expectantly the dances and rolling around was such a treat to watch. I loved every millisecond of this short video, and hope to see more. But i cannot blame anyone if it's a big task that takes years to complete just another episode, or cancel outright. Course I hope a continuance, but I'm satisfied by this single episode alone, it's that good.

I was pleasantly surprised with the Wing Fortress cameo, but I was genuinely shocked when they referenced Hidden Palace Zone. this guy clearly did his research. this was a fun watch, cant wait to see Sonic get frustrated in Labyrinth
imma be honest i dropped outa sonic paradox a while back after i had sonic heroes music forever rewritten in my mind but dang this was super high quality, everyone did an amazing job with this!
Robert did a fantastic job with the animation. A combo of how sonic moves in the sonic cd opening and breakdancing. This is perfectly how i would imagine sonic moving through the land
Words can't describe the places this took me.
Being cast as Commander Buzz and being able to verifiably say I've worked on a project with Wax is nothing short of a childhood dream come true, and to say I'm honored is a vast understatement.
Everything about this project, from the animation, to the other voice actors, the story, the music, literally everything was perfect.
Can't wait for what's in store, and thanks again to Wax for this opportunity.

Amazing Sonic fan animation, the animation was very nice and smooth, the songs were absolute bangers, and I loved Sonic's characterisation and the acting overall, great job to all the creators 😄
What's fun about watching long animations like this, is you can see the animator's skills get better and better as the video progresses! The Wax did a great job!

This was so entertaining! The writing, animation, voice acting, it was all great and reminded me why Green Hill Zone was so awesome in the first place. I also like the little touches such as Sonic spray-painting the Goal Plate to have his face, the Badniks getting some extra personality, and Sonic still being connected to Longclaw like in the movies.
EDIT: Here's hoping Episode 2 goes well! You can do it!

Lore/story wise this is a very clever and cool way of going about sonic 1 making every aspect of the game make sense as a story
Sonic Shorts and other Newgrounds animations were a pretty big part of my childhood. I absolutely loved this. These portrayals of Sonic and Robotnik are excellent, both in terms of animation and voice acting!
This was _so_ worth the wait! I remember seeing previews of this in 2019 and being extremely hyped. Wax, you did _not_ disappoint.
All I gotta say is that this was a very well done video overall & the music selection is awesome, too...especially the end credits which that one is a major jam which shout out to TNH Nebula for that music piece!!! I'll definitely keep a lookout for more!! Keep being awesome!

THIS IS AMAZING!!! you can tell so much love when into this, the ways sonic moves,speaks,and has fun is on point to the main character. The way Greenhill is set up is so natural, you made an unnatural world seem so lively. And the was robotnik has the gray chaos emerald already is such a good work around for only having 6 in the main game. And I love how you included the old man owl from the ova and the owls from the movies, it's so smart and awesome. Amazing work dude.

Excellent work all round on this. I particularly liked the interpretations of the Chaos Emerald zones and changing of the sign post as well. Really came together well with some superb animation and fun action scenes. The music had some great remixes of the Sonic tunes as well and made for a great viewing.
