Breaks my heart each and every time I hear this. Too close to my own loss of love. Exquisite.

This was the song my father was recording when he passed away.
    A beautiful song about parting.
My father had the privilege of producing a concert The Corries played at in Braemar, they were wonderful to meet afterwards. Treasured memories

Anything Scottish always takes me back to my youth in 50s when served as a drummer in the Parachute Regiment with a lot of Scottish lads.

I have been a fan since the late 1960s and saw them live a few times. The Corries remain one of my all time favourite folk acts and also the primal inspiration for my own music making

Had this played at Mum's funeral as a tribute to her been born in Scotland. Whenever I hear this, memory's flood back into my mind. Childhood, Youth, Manhood and now Old age.

Ae fond kiss, and then we sever!
    Ae farewell, and then forever!
Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee
Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee
I'll ne'er blame my partial fancy:
    Naething could resist my Nancy!
Just to see her was to love her
Love but her and love for ever
Had we never lov'd sae kindly
Had we never lov'd sae blindly
Never met - or never parted
    We had ne'er been broken-hearted
    Fare-thee-weel, thou first thou fairest!
    Fare-thee-weel, thou best oh dearest!
Thine be ilka. joy and treasure
    Peace, Enjoyment, Love and Pleasure!
Ae fond kiss, and then we sever!
    Ae farewell, alas, for ever!
Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee
Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee

Does anyone know what the instrument is that Roy is playing? Did he make it himself? It’s like a 12-string mandolin-sized thing.
