Dont think I have eve started a walk from the back garden before Brian! An absolutely fantastic day with cracking visibility, albeit a wee bit windy. I think we were unsure about the horns due to the wind but glad we went for it..An amazing mountain and an amazing place!! Cheers mate. Paul.
What do you usually use for working out what the winds are going to be like mate? Is it just Met Office? I’ve always been a bit unsure of what to use cause there always seems to be a big difference these days between Mountain Forecast and Met Office.. Also, what KMPH would you say is too much to walk in, I don’t think i’ve ever tried walking on a day where its more than gusts of about 30KMPH so sometimes i’ll look at the weather and think nah it’s too windy but wonder if I should chance it 🤔 Brilliant videos as always mate!
Hi Paul, yeah for me I would look at both the met office and the Mountain Weather Information Service (MWIS) it can be a hit and a miss but it’s about as good as it gets I think? I guess everyone has their own comfort levels and for me 30kmph is no issue? That’s probably around 20MPH which is fine to walk in. To put that in perspective our walk on Beinn Alligin was gusting to around 40mph or 68kmph. That’s quite gusty and I would avoid anything more than that. It also needs to be factored in where you are walking and the wind direction. Narrow ridge in high winds could be scary! So I guess there’s lots of factors to think about. The more you go out the more you will better get a feel for it.
Great place
Absolutely stunning!
