With all the stresses of modern day life, everyone needs to take a moment every now and then to chill out and relax...so in this effects pedal buying guide, we're looking at 5 of the best guitar effects for ambient guitar, helping you to create calming, atmospheric soundscapes!
A way of creating sonic textures and tones that don't sound like conventional guitar music, Atmospheric and Ambient guitar first originated in the early 1970's with guitarists and producers such as Brian Eno, Robert Fripp (famed for his "Frippertronics" delay looping), Daniel Lanois and U2's The Edge, later evolving with guitarists such as Ed O'Brien and Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead. This style of playing can be heard across a huge range of genres, from relaxation music and film scores, through prog rock and stadium rock, up to modern day pop and left-field experimental and indie.
We'll be looking at the best reverb pedals and best delay pedals (featuring the Strymon Big Sky & Timeline), the best volume pedals for guitar (featuring the Dunlop Volume X) and the best loop pedals (including the Boss RC-500). We'll also be showing you some of the most common guitar playing techniques in ambient music, including how to control volume swells and how to use an ebow. So if want to learn how to play ambient guitar, hopefully we can point you in the right direction with some of the best guitar effects to get you started!

The opening piece reminded me of Chords Of Orion - that’s a good thing 👏🏻
Sam you made me almost cry with the outro track, magnificent playing man!
I think its a song by Devendra Banhart and Noah Georgeson called “Rise From Your Wave” - btw really recommended ambient album
One of the best explanations of what is ambient guitar about for beginners. Congrats and thanks! Greetings from Panamá
How do you know they are guitar beginners? Maybe they just want to learn more! Some people like to learn new stuff all their lives!
This is a real cool guide to get started with ambient guitar. Thanks for this. Very helpfull.
Impressed you managed to hold off nearly 10 minutes before playing a Radiohead riff lol. Great vid, need a Big Sky now!
This is beautiful that sound of that Guitar🎸 man it's so calming and its makes you go fall asleep😴💤 well done Man Dude you rock🤘 Eliza Jane from United kingdom northern Ireland Ballymena age 36
This was way better than I anticipated, thx.
You are always very informative in a concise way that is easy to watch.
Nice one Sam 😎🤘
Great insightful video as always, Sam
anyone else who just put life on hold for that intro?
Yes, but more
so for that outro!
Thanks Sam, I really appreciate your videos
Awesome information! Thank you so much!
Its really nice to have this great pedals..really cool...makes me feel so touch wd this kind of soundm..love it
Excellent, thanks.
Very good. Enjoyed this vid a lot.
Really wonderful playing!
Can't wait to experiment with these 😮
Another great pedal for ambient tones is the Gamechanger Audio Plus Pedal. Solidly made too.
Sounded pretty good. You should check out Digital Guitars UK as he creates the best ambient guitar pad and synth effects on the Fender Tone Master Pro, Headrush and Boss GT 1000
For honorable mention, I really think you could add a octave pedal to this list .For me it's a must have for adding octave up angelic sounds, or lower octave ,for some synth tones .
Any suggestions for what octave pedal to get?
@@9Nails I have a few .Basically for different boards I have, and for different price ranges. For the price, and versatility, I love the EHX Pitch Fork .I have a Hungry Robot Monastery that has a cool feature that lets you click between two settings .For mini pedals I have a Mr. Black ,and a Hotone Skyline Octa ,both are great .
@9Nails I picked up a Donnor "Harmonic Square" for $35 new, free shipping.
Very versatile, lot of different options other than simple octaves.
I'm out of town right now, just a 4 track, working on songs.
I use it with my guitar, octave down for my bass lines. It's worth having in your bag for under $50.
@@peteywheatstraws4909 I just finished a huge board that does Guitar&Bass at the same time. With a spliter, 2 volumes, 2 loopers. Went with the Mooer Purer Octave for that one $80 but has a lot of settings, and features. That Donner is a pitch shifter, have you ever tried using it to do D standard, or C standard tunings?

That's the main way I use the Pitch Fork nowadays.
Yes I was trying to find out what ambient guitar is, compared to just using effects to get sounds. I want to learn more, I am not a beginner, just getting more into effects slowly.
great beard & great vid
Damm
You mentioned the set up in a previous video too after using this guitar but never mention the guitar itself. I've never seen a Tele with tone and volume pots like that and middle pick up too. Which version Tele is this? Nashville in sunburst?
Hi, it's a made in Mexico Deluxe Nashville Tele with a couple of mods...it's had a Fender super switch added for a few more pickup options, and I've switched the knobs for 70's style witch hats as I think they look better! ;-p
The new Fender Player Plus Nashville Tele's are pretty much the same guitar, so you've got the Noiseless pickups like on the Deluxe, but you get the extra switching options as standard on a push/pull tone pot. Great guitars, hope that helps! - Sam
@@PMTVUK They do look better. I want some now! haha. Thanks for the info. BTW I started watching this channel thinking it was only a Dagan thing for months but your vids have been popping up in the feed and I appreciate the clear style. I love the beard too mate. Keep en comin! Maybe a Tele comparison vid would be cool. I have a Squier CV sunburst tele that I love, but I when I do upgrade I may go for the Nashville so I can get the Strat sound but keep the Tele sound too. Was going to get a black scratch plate to emulate the Jason Isbel one. Actually I thought that was yours. I dig it.
What are some of the genres tyhat use ambient guitar? I am obsessed with the sound, but can never find anything to listen to when I workout, or want lyrics. There are genres like shoegaze, but they usually prioritize chorus over reverb.
My dream
Thanks Tim from wish
That volume pedal sounds like a violin
u look like both "malfoy" from Harry Potter and "Blonsky" from Incredible Hulk
Music to drown to
Caline Mariana will help with the undertow, cool modulation-chorus pedal.
