Guys FYI we've decided after recording this video and the SCAR20 that we'll always shoot the 9-shot groups, really sorry they aren't here for these two but moving forward you'll see the high-round groups.

Hi guys. In my experience, if you change bullets or especially powder types, it can take a round or two for the POI to settle in its new location. Not always, but often. I think you saw some of that here. It would be a good idea to give each ammo type an off group fouling shot, or at least track if the first shot is consistently the outlier. Thanks!

Geez that M80 performance. Considering many buying this have lower budget range and will likely feed it more cheap ammo...
I mean it's okay for a rifle to do not as well with M80, but being that bad with it is simply unacceptable.

Reloading is the answer: match grade ammo for M80 ball cost.

I have this PSA. With regard to accuracy, mine tends to be ammo fussy. Mine shoots best with 175 gr. GMM, consistently 1 MOA with that load. I have shot about 10 different loads, including Federal M80, about 2-3 MOA with that balll ammo. Overall it is a 1.5-2. MOA rifle. I have shot steel out to 630 yards, no problem hitting what I am shooting at. For the price I’m satisfied. The rifle has been 100% reliable. The Schmid DLC trigger is the best version of that trigger I have used. Expectations should be realistic given the price point.

Remember when comparing accuracy to an KAC rifle to divide the group size by 2 to convert to a KAC MOA. Therefore al those groups are sub MOA. KACs definition of MOA accuracy when contesting their accuracy guarantee, is that it is a deviation from the point of aim. A 2 MOA group is only 1 MOA off the point of aim, therefore 1 MOA group.

EDIT: Apparently alot of people have a very similar result you guys got as well as my findings. The gun is super ammo picky but works very well once you find what it likes, ive seen tons of videos of it grouping ball like a worn out ak. Well it's a Budget M110 they skimped on the barrel to lower costs. It would be interesting to see how a $200-$300 premium barrel would perform in this rifle. Even with the base rifle cost of $1,500 adding $300 worth of premium barrel would still be under $2,000 for the build and you would have 2 barrel's. If you sold the PSA barrel for $200 that would bring the rifle cost with the new barrel down to $1,600 or so. There's just so many options available for the AR-10 that you can really go in any direction here.

    • @Borderline5440

@Borderline5440 go shop around for AR-10 barrels and see what you can find for what price. Even if you had to reduce the price down to $100 that's still better than a complete loss.

    • @Stars-and-Stripes-
      @Stars-and-Stripes- 3 дня назад +1

The PSA rifle comes with various barrel options, it happens the one they have here is the cheapest base 4150cv barrel, but they have AR10's available with a 416R barrel which tends to be more accurate, but they also have other options such as a Faxon Match barrel and they have also had FN CHF CL barrels for a few years also..
I have PSA's cheapest AK, the GF3 and I can shoot anywhere from 2-4MOA groups with just cheap Russian steel cased Barnaul ammo, and that is a freaking AK shooting really cheap 7.62X39 steel cased stuff..
I'm not a good shooter at all when it comes to experience, barely shoot it and don't practice often, but when I first bought the PSA AK it only had Irons on it and believe it or not they were right on out of the box and the front sight was not canted at all, which is common with AK'S, but anyway I put 4inch shotgun clays on the berm at a 100 yard range , so it would be likely about 110 yards out and I was consistently hitting the 4in clays with Irons, and that was the first time I had shot the gun and before that I had not touched a rifle in several years other than an occasional AR and a Ruger 10/22, so again I'm certainly not what is considered a "good" shot..
Perhaps I just got lucky and got a really good example PSA budget base model AK $600? Oh and it has been 100% reliable so far with about 800 rounds fired through it.. The only issue I ever had was ammo related with cheap Tula hard primers not igniting in a handful of rounds..

That rifle needs to shoot 110-168grain Ammo “if” it has a 1/10 twist, your scars , and other sniper rifles have a 1/12 twist for that heavy grain 175 -178 grain stuff, how I found this out was I have and old savage 110 tactical in 308 with a 1/10 twist barrel , and it shoots sun moa @ 100-500 yds with hornady 168 grain , it doesn’t shoot the 175-178 grain stuff as good. Several years ago I purchased a FN SPR A5M bolt action, it had the 1/12 twist barrel , it’s not as accurate as the savage I still have but it did like that 175 grain and the 178 grain stuff better. Ok now let’s talk AR’s I have a gen one sig 716 patrol with a rra trigger in it and that rifle has a 1/10 twist barrel, that gun will shoot M80 ball 147-150 grain fmj with sub MOA accuracy, I was really shocked it’s so accurate with a 16” barrel, maybe I have one that built on a Sunday, it would be cool for y’all to test those lol

I got my PSA M110 "clone" this past summer and tried quite a few 308 factory ammos through it. Using Hornady group calculator for best 9/10 shots for a group at 100y.
It liked Federal GMM 175gr OTM at 1.3moa. The GMM 175gr SMK and 168gr SMK were both 1.7moa.
AAC 175gr SMK was about 1.9moa
    It didnt like Black Hills 168gr (2.5moa) Hornady 178gr (3moa), Fiochii 168gr (3moa)
AAC 147grain was close to a 4" group at 100y.
I took it out to distance and walked it out to 600yards pretty well. Past that i need more practice for wind and spotting rounds. But so far its been a great gun.

My son has a PSA-10 complete lower and a PSA-10 complete upper with 20 inch stainless heavy barrel. These parts were bought separately, not a complete rifle. It shot shoots MOA or better and isn't super finicky about ammo. $179 lower and $399 upper. My Aero M5 likes 168s over 178s.

The biggest thing i took away from this test was that all the bullets had very similar design. 170ish grainers. I'm sure you guys are aware that rifles can like different ammo and bullet design has the biggest impact. So maybe throw in some 150s 168 and 180-200 next time

168 maybe, but this is in appropriate to shoot 200's, also the is not a common projectile for LR applications with 7.62 NATO

I gotta say, although not anywhere near top tier, my PSA sr25ish PA65 GEN 3 I got about 3 years ago puts a handload with a few different charge weights (varget, nosler brass berger 175s) into .75" groups consistently. Of course I bedded the barrel in and tossed in a lantac match bolt carrier, but I dont know how much different that made.

You see that's the thing. He never tested with AAC ammo. I've heard the scientists that work in the lab at AAC have analyzed the exact chamber dimensions of the PSA rifles and have matched the powder charge and seating depth to have the perfect amount of jump according to their laboratory testing of barrel harmonics. You could see how poorly the Ball ammo did. I'm speculating here, but I would imagine with the right barrel tuner you could cut that group in half and it would be just as good as the KAC.

I think anyone buying one of these and expecting them to shoot like a good bolt gun in the group department is going to be sorely disappointed. However as a budget DMR that can get you hits on a man to 700 yards, it can work ok. Personally, I would save up more money and go for something like an LMT MWS, but to each his own.

Factory ammo is why i reload. My 556 PSA 18" nitride with nothing "expensive fancy" added is a dream. Harris bipod. Nikon 12x. Magpul furniture. I have the reduced power spring kit and the polished milspec trigger set. Nothing fancy.
Even bad ammo is under 2". My reloads from 55 to 75 I can expect 1" or less.
I've been very hesitant about getting an "AR10" variant...for this reason.

Both of my PSA Gen3 with 2 stage triggers needed their gas blocks adjusted seriously! 1 in 6.5 and 1 in .308. After adjusting the gas block the 6.5 is amazing. The .308 is ammo picky. It loves Wolf steel!!! Which frustrates me. It also loves Hornady Black the most. I have shot multiple 5 shot groups under a 1/2" moa with it. I had a 20 shot group at 1.25. They can do it but adjust thatbgas block to find the sweet spot!

I have a Mega build with a JP Barrel that is very very good with anything from 165 grain on up. (Actually it's just really good with any long, boat tail bullet, honestly) It shoots better than I can. M80 ball, however? Almost just like what you see this PSA do. Shotgun patterns. Now, I have ANOTHER Mega with ANOTHER JP barrel...but it's 18 inch instead of 22 inch. It's the only difference. Shoots the same M80 ball into 2 inch groups with no problem. I feel like, with the flat based bullet and the 1/10 twist barrels that velocity seems to be a component of the issue.

This video made the same mistake that a million accuracy testing videos have made prior to it. You have to shoot a round or two of the next ammo in to the berm, then your 5-round group, to kind of re-season the barrel to the next projectile and powder type. Otherwise, you usually get first round flyers.

My PSA is doing identical performance to Henrys....you will get a average group (5 shot)..then a few unexplainable flyers...This happens regardless of the shooter.... stretch it out to a 10 shot group it gets worse... everything is tight... multiple vetted scopes....I believe it is the bore on these barrels...I bet they have tight and loose spots in them....thus not stabilizing the bullets very well.
