Brooke, these are really nice. At first I thought your paints might have been a little thin, but as you painted, it think you had it perfect! I love geodes and am building my courage to try. Thanks for a great tutorial.
Thank you so much! I always have to experiment with thickness, and some techniques work with thicker or thinner paint, it really depends. I hope you have a lot of fun playing with it!
Thank you so much! Pink historically hasn't been my color either but I'm loving pairing it with gold :) Thank you for watching! I need to get on top of listing this one on Etsy haha!
This piece was so eye catching even from the thumbnail. It looks so realistic because of the monochrome palette. You did a fabulous job. The blending is perfection. DON’T add more glitter!!! It is perfect!!
So happy I found this video, definitely going to try this! Been looking for techniques to do geode looking acrylic paintings and all I have found so far is that I have to start doing resin haha. Yours is really beautiful!
Thank you so much! I love doing geodes, they make me really happy. Here is a video I did breaking down my process if you are interested: ruclips.net/video/e2jDUFZjbCI/видео.html . I hope you have a great time trying it out!
So beautiful. Please recommend what butane torch and fuel you prefer and where you purchase it. Thanks w Roxanne, what are the dimensions?, what are the dimensions?
Thank you! I have purchased several and have had good luck with different brands. I searched creme brulee torch on Amazon for the one I use here on the channel, but you can also get them at certain smoke shops if you have anything like that near you. I think the butane I get is from Amazon too and I'm sure many brands would work but I have a container of Zippo brand. Be really careful/use at your own risk ☺ The dimensions of this painting are I believe 8"x8".
Thank you so much for sharing this! I get an immediate migraine from resin/chemical smells and have been looking for another way to make the Geode look!
Ugh I'm so sorry about the migraine thing, I get them for other reasons and it's so sad when they're combined with something you want to do. I hope you enjoy this method! I have a video really laying out how to do it if you are interested: ruclips.net/video/e2jDUFZjbCI/видео.html
Brooke,do you know a way to get the shine without the epoxy resin? I have tons of crystal and other things to embellish the Geode, but is there a way to make it all shine without the resin?
I am so sorry, RUclips didn't show me this comment! Flood Floetrol smells a little like Mod Podge or another mild glue, It's not a very strong smell but it's always a good idea to have a window open when trying any new product in case it bothers you. I tend to more smell the acrylic paint when it's all drying.
Thank you! I'll share a secret with you, I get nervous every time I go to paint haha. It's always a little scary but I always get excited by the end result (even if I decide to scrap it) because the learning process is fun. There will be ones you don't like, and ones you do. It's just fun to try!
You may already know this, but I’ve had luck using rose gold spray paint in my paintings. You just spray into a cup and use the edge of tongue depressor to “swipe” along the rings of the geode to create veins. 😊
Thank you! You can use any acrylic, but as you try different ones you will find the ones you like best :) I use many types of heavy body acrylics and craft acrylics. Here is a video of my whole process so you can see how I mix my colors and do this type of painting: ruclips.net/video/e2jDUFZjbCI/видео.html
I use floetrol and a little bit of water. No silicone in this pour at all! I sometimes use it but I have moved away from silicone a little because cleaning the canvas after is a pain ;)
Thank you! I didn't use silicone oil in this painting :) I often don't prefer to use it because it takes awhile to clean, and I don't usually want a ton of cells for my geodes.
Thank you very much! The base here was Artist's Loft Flow Acrylic "Titanium White" mixed with Flood Floetrol (US version). If you would like a tutorial, here is one I made awhile back: ruclips.net/video/e2jDUFZjbCI/видео.html
Aw thank you! Yes, for a tree ring pour, you take your pre-mixed colors and layer them into a cup but don't mix them. Then when you pour it out, it comes out in rings of color that can sometimes look like the rings you see when you chop a tree down. Here is one of my videos where the whole thing is a tree ring pour: ruclips.net/video/bexVeNvQGDE/видео.html
Yes! Just a little bit :) I use a creme brulee torch set on medium/low to pop any air bubbles on the background because for geodes, I usually try to avoid too many cells (air bubbles help create cells).
Hi! Thank you for watching. I use floetrol, and usually add a tiny bit of water. But for my process, the floetrol is the most important part because it makes the paint flow better. Some people use pouring mediums or glue as well.
Thank you so much Isabel :) That happens with my pieces too. There are a couple of common reasons. 1) I use floetrol, which dries matte. When things don't have the shine any more, they look more dull. I get around this by using a glossy varnish or enamel to seal the painting once it has been drying a long time. Adding a glossy finish brings back out some of that beautiful shine and contrast. 2) I also see this happen when I use colors that are too close in tone/shade. Usually that means I needed to add a contrasting color. If my paintings are way too dark, I will add a light color next time (I usually use white because that tends to work with most color schemes). If my paintings are way too light and bland, I try to add a darker shade (this could be any of your colors, but darker, or black). I hope this helps!
@@isabelsam1155 Instead of using silicone I started using hair serum from Frutis line! It has no alcohol,so it is non flammable and it adds shine! I also seal mine with a gloss spray my Dad found for me at Menards!
@@alisaparrish2456 It can definitely be a struggle to get the mixtures right. And really disappointing to spend that work and not have it turn out how you hoped (literally, one of my least favorite things!). I have actually been wanting to plan a "paint along with me" live video coming up soon. Maybe I should do a geode one? I would release which materials ahead of time so people could get them (basically inexpensive paint, floetrol, and cups/gloves/stir sticks or similar) and then we could try things out together. I actually use a mixture of craft paint and heavier body acrylics, so maybe we can find something that works using craft paint! And yes, I have an Etsy account that needs some attention (one of my goals for this week), but currently I have some of my paint poured necklaces for sale! Paintings will be coming soon :) My Etsy account is Art By Brooke Turner and if you prefer a direct link, there is one in the bottom of this video's description. Try mixing pearl white, gold, and metallic red to get to rose gold. You may have to play with different golds to avoid your rose gold going orange.
