Thank you so much. I was raised on a farm, was a Nurseryman for 20 years, and have been an avid Gardener for almost sixty years and you taught me something new! Cheers and God Bless.
Good info! I grow carnivorous plants as a hobby. Most people think these plants are tropical or from some exotic jungle. Which people think they are hard to grow but they are easy to grow.
I LOVE carnivorous plants! I need to do an update on my bog. I had a few of my sarracenia flower, hopefully I can get out there and film an update soon!
@@JhulysAquaticsGardening Ever try growing carnivorous plants from seed? I have a flytrap about to bloom cause I want seed. Then I'll use the flower stock for cuttings.
@@JhulysAquaticsGardening thanks for your tips, I want to make a larger container maybe this year or next year. I’ve located the peat at my local hardware store but in order to get the sand from pet fly trap (100Ib bag) I will have to drive nearly an hour 1 way. But it is $36.00 so sounds like a good deal
@@Tatusiek_1 Woah...pet fly trap won't ship it? $36.00 is a good deal and if I were you I'd make the trip! I'd love to see how your project turns out! Tag me @jhulysaquaticsgardening when you start working on it!
when I build mine next summer I think I am going to sink a plastic container into the center with holes drilled in it and glue some rock to the lid so I can keep an eye on the water level in the soil but still have it hidden in the landscape
Question: do the plants have to be planted at the same time or can you gradually add a plant (as space allows)? Ex: I have a couple of plants already planted in a pot and I want to add an additional plant. P.S. are you of Caribbean background?
Hey Tristan! No, you don't have to add them all at once. You can add them gradually overtime if that's what you choose to do! Yes my family is from Jamaica lol.
I would never completely repot the entire bog all at once. When a plant gets to a certain size and outgrows the garden then it needs to be divided. That's how I'd go about maintaining the bog.
@@JhulysAquaticsGardening So I’ve listened to growers and read how carnivorous plants like to be reported at least once a year, so then in a large barrel bog garden like this; one would not replace some of the soil at some point?
I didn't know that! Thanks for letting me know. I've always seen and read of splitting as they grow but I can give that method a try on one of my bogs. Also, as far as I understand the soil is only a medium for keeping the roots cool and doesn't supply any nutrients to the plants themselves. So I'm not sure if it's as necessary with these types of plants.
@@JhulysAquaticsGardening There is so much content out there. It is so much to take in on all the different types of ways to successfully grow carnivorous plants. I try to just poke everyone’s brain and try what has a long track record of success; but also always open to knew ways that also seem to be working.

No, I never tried it before...how did it work out for you?
@@JhulysAquaticsGardening I thought I did but I don't. You pollinate their flowers much like most flowers.
I live at the tip top of the watershed here so Mt tap water is fine... sucks though because I want to keep multies or similis one day.
Can you make an update about this bog garden? I'd love to see what it looks like today
I sure will!!
Nice video man!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!!
Super helpful!

Great video! I'm going to attempt one of these in the spring.

I'm also making one soon

What store did you get the peat moss?
I purchased a bale of it at my local Home Depot
