These trams are beautiful. Look like they were installed yesterday. There are dozens of US cities that would love to have this kind of thing, but absolutely no political will to fund it. You get what you pay for. If you pay nothing, you get nothing. Hence, moderate size US cities (ca. 1M people) with nothing approaching this kind of public transport.

That's true and they are doing a great job in recent years to improve the system - buying new trams and reconstructing a lot of tracks.
