Playing overseas is very tough but also very rewarding! Every now and then I’ll get a random Bilogorac fan or Marupe or Balvi supporter say hi to me. That’s the most amazing part. To think that you can help build an impact in a different country doing what you love most is awesome! Hopefully my next contract is going to be overseas again.
Matt, thank you for your consistent content over the years. I have followed you for a long time and you've had a large impact on my life so far. I started watching your videos in 9th grade (around 2016). I trained with my HS team, my club, my sister's team, and my brother's team every week. Your solo training sessions and recovery videos were extremely helpful at the time. In 2020, I secured a D2 offer at Flagler College, but I turned it down. I was not confident in my ability to rise out of D2 and progress my career. So, I focused on my studies instead. I am now on track to graduate next April (2024) with a degree in mechanical engineering. I still follow your videos, and I still love football very much. Even as a rusty and out of shape 21 yr old, I still want to be on the pitch as much as I can. Cheers! *edit:grammar*
You’re doing good work, Matt, as a pro, content creator, husband, and father. Two videos I would like to see: how do you obtain an agent/ how do you pay him/ what does he do for you; also, what perspective does your wife have being married to a pro athlete. Thank you.
Matt’s done a video on how he got his first agent in the past. Giving out an agent’s commission fee is unprofessional as that is sensitive information for both a player and their agent. Would like for Matt to talk more about his agency/agent OPSM tho.
Q/A…..Hey Matt love the off-season series Did you ever fall out of love for the game or burn out and what did you do to get yourself working hard and loving the game again
Japan Pro Leagues (j1-j3) far more harder than USL and event some MLS Club since only 5 Foreigner allow in Asia , And it's not worth it for Foreigner with Big Currency to play in Japan 4th - 6th tier leagues . Agree with Thailand , Pretty Similiar with USL .
Hi Matt Sheldon, It's a pleasure for me each time you post to watch your videos. I've started to follow you on 2022 and I've learned so much things. I'm playing for a D3 club in may country and recently I've joined and academy. My question for you as a professional footballer, between playing for a semi-pro level and an academy what are the chance to reach the professionnal level in a less lapse of time?
Tbh even though you and Hartford had a pretty awful season this year, I definitely think you specifically are almost ready to move up a notch. Whether that be the MLS, playing overseas, etc. Hell maybe you could shoehorn yourself onto the US National Team by 2026 lmao. Or..the bench at least. Some might say youre getting too old for this, but the human male enters his physical prime at 30. Youve got at least another half decade worth of playing, keep it up!
Yeah but the industry does not see it that way. As you get older, your value decreases. Only if you had a high profile in your younger years than some teams in small leagues might pay huge money for you.
From everything I’ve ever seen in explosive athletes. 23-28 is peak. After that it is plataeu for a couple years, then declines commences around 30-32. It never fails. Mentally is different. Around 30 is entering prime.
Q&A how have you handled comparison to other players during your career, and how have you toed the line of learning from their game to where it becomes destructive, thanks!
I think a German third tier club would probably sign you for a starter if they needed one of your type, I think you could definitely hold up and fans would increase drastically in comparison to the ones in US
3rd Bundesliga is probably just below MLS in terms of quality 4th tier Regionalliga is more like it and a club like Cottbus who are desperate to get promoted back in to the 3rd Bundesliga but their won’t be much money their, tbh best scenario is to look for a 5th or 6th tier club with promotion ambitions who are willing to pay money for talent (as he said himself playing for a 6th tier club and getting some money and housing
You got to consider his age and Ambitions, he probably wants a Club around mls niveau, maybe Just a bit lower, ging for a Team that wants to rebuild so wont work that easily so i think 3rd to 4th Tier would be about right, maybe a better 4th Tier Club so he can actually habe a successful season since he is mostly at the Worse Clubs who struggle to score, to See his offensive Potential he would have to try that
How do you keep improving when you already really good at football, academy level and everything. But want to keep getting better, how do you keep getting that 1% and keep stacking up more qualities etc. Feels like the better you get the harder it is to improve. Good to great, great to God.
Question for the offseason Q&A - Do you think playing in college helps to get you to the professional level, or do you think trying to make it onto a semi-pro or lower level pro team right out of high school would get you farther in your professional career?
Benefits of a 20 year old playing pickup football with older players some retired professionals and decent intensity. In addition to academy training and gym
Hi Matt, I’m thinking of doing a nutrition course like you completed, have you noticed many opportunities in football for job roles like this - or perhaps a side hustle?
How does family support and affection impact your performance on the pitch? It can be lonely when you so far away from home. Ive had an experience where i was in south America for 3 months and not having family support definitely bugged me out.
Clearly you know what you’re doing with the footy training but you don’t take your gym sessions very seriously. I think in the off season, and now in your thirties you want to be as fit as long as possible, there’s no reason you shouldn’t get into an actual gym 3-4 days a week. Those home workouts ain’t it. Just my opinion though, really enjoying the videos:)
Does anyone have any advise I been wanting to join a football club.I been to scared to join one thinking that I won’t be good enough at the age of 18 thanks for listening 👍

Hi Matt, I’m thinking of doing a nutrition course like you completed, have you noticed many opportunities in football for job roles like this - or perhaps a side hustle?
Based on the episode title I thought u had an overseas offer.
Woo!
How does family support and affection impact your performance on the pitch? It can be lonely when you so far away from home. Ive had an experience where i was in south America for 3 months and not having family support definitely bugged me out.

Matt,a what age did you begin to play pro and do you believe there is a certain age limit to become pro.
I'm 25 still pushing! There's no limit but the one you put on yourself!
