I was in a lockdown facility, the same kind of rules, but the staff didn't take it as far. (Mine closed down 2 years after I left) these places need to go. It's not helping anyone. I just watched the doc on this place. Amazing to see all the comments here from years ago attesting to how horrible this place was. I was a troubled teen in the early ‘00s and never wound up in a place like this but could have. I had friends who were in wilderness programs and long term rehabs but never a place like this. Later on in my 20s I wound up in jail and prison for a short stay, REAL adult prison, and as horrible as it was, Ivy Ridge looks worse.
The fact that the first thing I hear is a seminar song...and see uniforms that look a LOT like Casa uniforms bothers the crap out of me...ugh...I can't even finish this crap!

OMG they let you NOT eat 20% of your food?! We had to eat 100% OR ELSE! Raisins have made me sick since I was like 4 years old and they were routinely SHOVED down my fucking throat until I puked. And then I was held back from the rest of my "family" and given another 2 goddamn servings of food and told I wasn't allowed to get up until it was finished and if I dare let a crumb come back up, it would be added the the "food" I was demanded to eat!!! I was 14 when I was first sent there and an athletic build, within less than 6 months I had gained over 50lbs and then ordered to do extra RIGOROUS physical exercise every day bc at one of my doctor visits, the report stated that I was morbidly obese and already pre-diabetic. I'd never been sick in any way before that and now I literally struggle to eat or I stuff my face and I am literally ALWAYS nauseous. Ugh, but hey that wasn't even the worst of it. If anything, that was a freaking GOOD day. Also, don't ever apologize!! This shit was wrong on so many damn levels, dare I be so generous as to say inhumane and sociopathic! And shit, we literally couldn't speak almost EVER, so now I'm never shutting up! I'm also working on some articles, pieces, I'm not sure what to call it yet, but I'm going to be publishing a series online via a blog I'm creating featuring heavy spotlights on this among other things as well as social, print, and news media outlets and would love to either include a stand-alone piece of your experience or honestly anything you'd be willing to contribute if you're interested. Some of the survivors I've kept in contact with all these years that are heavily involved with Breaking Code Silence among other groups and orgs speaking out and there may be some additional collaboration there as well! None of what happened was your fault. I'll tell you. It is a fair question if you have not lived through it. The difference is that the captivity is permanent to a child. There is no hope of escape, even for a moment. The emotional distress builds day by day because there is no love and no freedom, not even for a moment. It feels as though the hate and cruelty will never end. That is the most torturous element. That is the element that destroys the minds and souls of children in these situations.
