Possibly one of the best mastered pieces of music released. Listen to the layering of the vocals and the energy and pure romanticism put forth. Paul McCartney stated that Pet Sounds was a masterpiece that he and the other Beatles listened to often.

I never ever get sick of hearing this song. I love how it makes me feel. It's a masterpiece. I especiailly like the carnival sound effects. It takes me back to the simplicity of my childhood. Pet sounds still speaks to me.

The writer who said this album was overrated only needed to pull the youtube tapes of Paul McCartney and Beatle producer George Martin who said this album was directly responsible for inspiring the Beatle's Sgt Pepper and revolutionized how recordings and instrumentations would be made in the future. McCartney said the music on this album made him cry when he heard it and he calls "God Only Knows" his favorite pop music tune of all.

One would have to emerge themselves in the time when Pet Sounds was put together as an orchestration in order to fully understand the Album. There was no CD or iPhone or Internet or Thumpin Bass high definition car stereo. Most people only owned an AM monaural radio, or a 45 monaural record player. Pet Sounds was one of the most elaborate orchestrations of music ever written, released to the public who would only hear bits of the album played through a tin can with a string (monaural AM).
To say the album was ahead of its time is a complete understatement. Only today with the advancement in music listening devices can people appreciate what Brian, the Wrecking Crew and the Beach Boys vocals were to sound like as a Stereo orchestration.
I find no one today who possess the talent to pull together such an orchestration, especially when one considers that the entire orchestration was assembled without the aid of today's digital technology and advanced recording techniques
If you have never listened to the album .... Get a copy and prepare to be completely amazed... just as Lennon and McCartney were when they heard it in a London just after its release.....

    Lyrics:
Wouldn't it be nice if we were older
Then we wouldn't have to wait so long
And wouldn't it be nice to live together
In the kind of world where we belong
You know its gonna make it that much better
When we can say goodnight and stay together
Wouldn't it be nice if we could wake up
In the morning when the day is new
And after having spent the day together
Hold each other close the whole night through
Happy times together we've been spending
I wish that every kiss was never ending
    Wouldn't it be nice
Maybe if we think and wish and hope and pray it might come true
Baby then there wouldn't be a single thing we couldn't do
    We could be married
    And then wed be happy
    Wouldn't it be nice
You know it seems the more we talk about it
It only makes it worse to live without it
    But lets talk about it
    Wouldn't it be nice

One of my earliest albums. Had it in Mono. This stereo remaster is nice. Just the greatest Beach Boys album of all time , at least in my opinion...Ed

Paul McCartney played this for the rest of the Beatles and the next album that they putout was Sgt Peppers.

Best album ever! This is the album the made me fall in love with music and learn to write and compose spanning many genres but I’ll never be near as good as Brian Douglas Wilson! No one will!

This entire album is public domain because the original vinyl release lacked any copyright notice of any kind. The RIAA doesn't want people to know about that loophole in copyright law, but it's there if you bother to look it up. Pass it on.

      +bartsimpson83 Proof?

    • @bartsimpson83
      @bartsimpson83 8 лет назад +3

Under US copyright law, all pre-1978 works are public domain if they lack proper notice. Therefore, any records which don't have it are public domain. Interestingly, the sound recordings are public domain but the underlying composition is not, so you can download and share to your heart's content and the RIAA can't do a thing to stop you. However, you'd still need to pay a licensing fee to whoever owns the sheet music if you wanted to use something in a film or whatever because sync rights are attached to the composition not the recording. Look it up if you don't believe me.

I see. Here ya go: www.discogs.com/The-Beach-Boys-Pet-Sounds/master/17217
Check the front and back of the vinyl sleeve. No notice. If it's too small to tell, do a google image search to find a bigger scan.

Brian said he smoked some dope and listened to Rubber Soul and was blown away - and that was his inspiration for pet sounds - to out do the beatles - and then beatles were likewise blown away by pet sounds. Bran said it was like being on an upward spiral - both trying to be better and better.
