      Thanks! Maybe this the reason why shellfish contains very high levels of taurine too since they consume algae?

    • @MountainFisher
      @MountainFisher Год назад +1

      @@MT-sq3jo Spirulina and Chlorella are freshwater/brackish/near brine water algae, but you can literally live on them exclusively as shown in Africa during droughts when nothing else was available from volcanic springs that Flamingos lived on. People lived on that algae for two years once.
      We developed wall tank systems that could grow the algae and use it to process waste as well. It was an experiment for long space voyages or Mars habitation since its soil is high in perchlorates they wouldn't have to purge it 100% from the soil. That was in the 1980-90s.
      Oldest fossils found on Earth are a 3.6 billion year old cyanobacteria, a blue-green alga that could do photosynthesis.

    • @DragonBiscuit
      @DragonBiscuit Год назад +4

      It’s okay to take them together but you might be defeating the purpose in some regard because the nattokinase and serrapeptase may act as expensive digestive enzymes in the presence of the amino acid (taurine) as the gut is ramping up to do its job with higher acid levels in response to the food ingested. According to the experts, systemic enzymes are typically best taken on an empty stomach so they can reach the desired destination and provide specific benefits etc. I’d be curious to know how much of a response we’d really see after just taking 1gm of taurine though.

      What do you expect it to do? If the effects observed in these studies pan out to also be similar in humans, you're first looking at larger doses than 1g per day, they also from what I recall fed the monkeys for six months, not two weeks. The mice and worms showed a decent increase in life span while with the monkeys health indicators seemed to improve but measuring the effects on lifespan would take longer with monkeys. If it helps with human life span, you're not going to see any effect in two weeks.
      You could just as easily dismiss the benefits of protein powder by taking it for two weeks.
      Also, a test subject of one is useless. While subjective effects and personal anecdotes are hugely affective on human behavior, scientifically they're worthless.

      @brandneu6439 Taurine has been extracted as a supplement since the 19th century. It is used in medicine for a long time and is sold in pharmacies. Taurine is the second most abundant amino acid in the body's muscle after glutamine. It is believed to significantly improve physical and cognitive performance and is therefore one of the most popular sports supplements. 20 years ago I took taurine capsules and powder every day for 1-2 years.
      I would say taurine is more of a cheap amino acid (especially in powder). Many people take magnesium taurate because it has higher absorption and combines the benefits of magnesium and taurine, but it is more expensive.
