4:40 _"if John Spartan doesn't bust in there so brashly then maybe the hostages would still be alive."_
But Simon Phoenix already killed the hostages long before John entered the building.

    • @GenerationFilms
      @GenerationFilms  3 года назад +58

There's some debate about whether or not Phoenix was telling the truth about this given the forensic-related plothole this creates. Though there is a slight pre-fire possibility. But whether they died because of him or not, the point is, Spartan did bust into that building without hesitation when there could have been hostages in it. He did a thermal scan to be fair, but it's stated that he didn't follow protocol. So, should he have? Also, should he have been held criminally responsible for the deaths of the hostages (given that the state at least believed that they weren't dead when he went into the building)? The movie's version of 1996 says "yes".

Producer: But what if the hostages were already dead?

When Edgar Friendly said "I want high cholesterol, I wanna eat bacon, burgers, and buckets of cheese" he wasn't stating he wanted a bad diet, he was advocating the ability to have the choice to make bad personal decisions (that obviously don't fall in the realm of obvious crime like murder, rape or theft) without the government trying to punish him for it.

Well, my guess for franchise war would be cities releasing a limited spot for certain restaurants as part of limiting too much branching of the same thing. It might backfire when the spots were sold in the black market just like a stock market bribery and certain politicians backing certain brands might instigate it into a stock war. Adding franchise shop owners switching sides might put the last nail to the coffin.
For 3 seashells there were many explanations for it and paper probably became a higher commodity than something reusable.

Hello Generation Films I loved Demolition Man when I saw it, too, though I was maybe too young to get the finer points of it (I think I was 13 when I watched it on skiing vacation in Austria it was on in the evening, and yes, I watched it in German). I agree with your analysis of the Film in General though the setting itself is rather Utopian - which serves the purpose of the film so I'm not complaining, just pointing out that it's not very realistic. Even in the humanly best society possible (currently Norway and Iceland) LEO's still train with firearms and carry them openly (though they couldn't stop Anders Breivik from killing 77 people). Now, Iceland and Norway have very little violent crime but as you've pointed out, humans always have a manic element that can lead to violence following little to no provocation, so armed and trained police will likely always be necessary. The scraps could probably easily overthrow the government with their violent tendencies even without firearms, because they pretty much constantly practice fighting and are physically superior to anyone topside (except for John Spartan and Simon Phoenix). All they lack are numbers, and apparently, imagination and motivation, a galvanizing force.
On the matter of balance in society, I believe it is important to let people decide if they want fun (without harming others) or health, though those aren't always mutually exclusive. In fact, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, and that movie has a very unhealthy ending... But everyone needs to decide for themselves how much of either side they need, for whatever goal they have in life. Btw I don't consider consenting adults pounding each other with their fists harming each other. I practiced martial arts and instruct self defense and resistive training is important for both, and that usually entails physically hurting one another (moderately)

@@KikogamerJ2 allow me to elaborate. I want to see a fictional Society where Edgar Friendly is in charge. He's anti-establishment not anarchist. Even when they were leading a raid for food it was more of a grab and run minimal use of force. If the people lead by Edgar Friendly were what your comment suggests the San Angeles police would still be experienced in dealing with Murderers.

Well but that is one of the big issues in the Movie.
Edgar being a full on Anarchist doesn't even see him self as a leader during there raids because he wants complete freedom and there for rejects any form of authority.
If he actually had any bit of authoritarianism in him would he have riled the people of the underground behind him and took down the weak upper worlds society long ago.
This is how the movie shows the problem with pure Freedom as its everyone on there own do there lack as individuals the force to make this change.
While people usually only focus on how the story critics the authoritarian world does it also have a pretty decent and unusual critic for an Anarchistic world view in it.

Very good synopsis. The saying is, fear not because scary men are prepared to do horrid things on your behalf because you are not capable of it yourself. Military members do this daily. Most of American society could not stand the things they do but quietly like that the military is there doing it.

When it comes to people's opinions online vs in person, I can't help but think of one of the early episodes of the Death Note anime where Light tells Ryuuk that people will give their honest feelings about matters online because online they are anonymous but in person will give "society's morally correct answer" because to do otherwise gets that person discriminated against in some way. And looking at everything that goes on, both in this movie and IRL, I feel that division is still true. Yes, some people are supporting one extreme or another because they want to see others get riled (aka trolling) but those extremes are also the way many people actually feel, if just as a result of their life experiences. It makes sense for someone living in an area with heavy crime to want the hammer to be brought down on offenders so they can feel safe, yet also makes sense for others who commit crimes as a way to improve their social standing or make ends meet would want fewer police around to make their lives easier. Not surprisingly, both extreme opinions can be found in gang-controlled poverty-stricken neighborhoods as an easy example. For another example, people in a peaceful area may not see a need for many police, yet can also fail to connect that it's because they have the police force they do that they have they peace they possess. But that's more an issue of confusing Effect and Cause; something we also see a great deal of in today's society.

I was wondering, when it comes to specific videos that you've worked really hard on, yet continues to recieve strikes, have you considered loading them on another platform or on a file sharing site? Making them only available to those who follow the link and perhaps even download? I believe one can watch a video on something like _Dropbox_ without having to actually download it.
I realize it's this results in no revenue from the video itself, but perhaps it could be a good backup for the rare video that you are jst _soooooo_ proud of and just do not want to chop up. 🤷🏼‍♂️

@@jaycol21 one I was comparing the warning of the movie to the 80’s and currently events. The former mask mandate is or was part of the nanny state but there are bigger problems with the nanny state, the mask issue was a minor one.
Secondly, your the one that made issue of the mask, if you noticed the other person who responded to me didn’t even mention the mask because he actually read my comment and the mask really wasn’t the point of my comment and that person realized that and made no mention of the mask in his reply to me.
