Sorry if I was late for the stream Ouji. Very insightful tier list to hear your thoughts. You definitely bring up a lot of points. As for the new titles, there are some interesting gems here. But I want to add on the topic of Astro. I don’t think it is bad, but I have a serious problem where the emotional aspect isn’t hitting me. And the transitions to go to the next arc is a problem like you said. But the one thing I feel is a massive problem is how the fights are really short. I want the satisfaction of these fights to carry the emotional weight for these characters. As well as how it began to where it is now with it having a tone change. As well as a few decisions where Wakui is forcing the emotions than letting it come naturally. I’ve been reading Jump for 4 years and have studied with a BA in film & TV to know how writing works. I even joined a good chat forum where I have been doing reviews for almost 2 years to know what strengths and weaknesses these series have. But with Astro the fights are not strong enough to get me invested compared to others that had a reason for why they fight. And a good video to watch is from this channel called Studiobinder where they used the 3 Star Wars trilogies as examples for that. And to answer back on Chojo, I like it. And I take it that Roboco response gives you your answer. It is the only gag series I ever resonated strongly with, cause when I began back in 2020, the gag titles were turning me away because I wanted something serious, and the jokes were not landing due to my state of mind (cause of the situation at the time), and with the exodus not helping matters. But after seeing Nina’s one-shots, I thought they were funny and I still back Chojo since its serialization. But with Roboco, even though I am not a fan, I do see some jokes that are good, and I think the series improved over time than being lazy with some jokes and references. Even the editor and chief joke where the author acknowledged that it was Nakano’s baby earns my respect to make fun of the topic showing how professional Miyazaki is with their comedy. Also, with HakuTaku, I really don’t get the hate. It’s bad, but not bad bad. I think it’s fine, but not offensive. I’ve seen worse, now that I have been doing this for 4 years now.
Love seeing Undead Unluck up on S tier alongside One Piece. Kagurabachi at the front of A tier makes sense for where it is now. I'm actually really enjoying Astro Royale for what it is right now - it's a fun straightforward battle Shonen that is probably one of the best choices for newbies looking to get their feet wet with the magazine right now.
For me, my ranking is as follows: S tier: Kagurabachi A tier: Sakamoto Days, Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi B tier: Astro Royale, One Piece, Ichi The Witch, Undead Unluck C tier: Shinobi Undercover, Akane Banashi, Blue Box, Mission Yozakura Family, Nue’s Exorcist, Kill Blue, The Elusive Samurai D tier: the rest.
