As a UCLA freshman in 1970, imagine my elation seeing that Coach Wooden's practices in Pauley were always open, and I took full advantage to learn the sport for the five years from the greatest teacher ever! It's fun to watch Coach Cori' impart the Wizard of Westwood's basketball knowledge to her women's teams as they get better season after season, attracting elite talent and seeing these women take their games to a higher level under such an enthusiastic mentor. I had the privilege of ushering at Pauley from 1973-1975, never seeing a UCLA loss at home. Just stunning! This UCLA team would make Coach Wooden proud! Go Bruins!

Wow amazing performance by whole UCLA Bruins women basketball team this evening .The rotation that Cori Close and coach executed today was superb and amazing. .This definitely was a physical and clean game tonight And this evening they showed they can defeat and beat Rutgers this evening and they did it amazing fashion. . This is a team that work together and definitely win games and play the game of basketball efficiently. And goes individually and collectivity thorough out their big 10 conference games . And they continue to play phenomenal defensive and interrupt their opponents offensive and defense from the opening minute to the final minutes of the game versus Rutgers .Due to UCLA defense and offense the Rutgers has lost this game . And that was phenomenal from both ends of the floor from the UCLA Bruins and you have to give them credit for their defensive plays through out whole game getting stops and stealing and out rebounding the Rutgers .And the UCLA starters and the players that was phenomenal tonight .That just show the phenomenal growth and their Resilience. And their ability to dominate constantly has grown from last season of this team from last season to now. And they all should be proud of Thursday perfomance. Because they won and they made history this Thursday .Player stats and UCLA leaders for this game Lauren Betts 25 points 13 rebounds and two assists . Angela Dugalic with eleven points and three rebounds and two assists . Kiki Rice with ten points three rebounds and ten assists. Gabriela Jaquez with nine points five rebounds and two assists. Timena Gardiner with two points and four rebounds. Londynn Jones twelve points and two assists and one rebounds.Janiah Barker with six points and five rebounds and one assists. Dudley with four points and five rebound in her respective minutes.Elina with two points and four assists in her respective minutes. Hopefully next game they can come out and finish stronger then played Rutgers.

What a great interview of Coach Close, Kiki Rice & Lauren Betts! The Women’s program is in great hands. Coach Wooden would be so proud! Coach Close has shown that basketball is not just a game but has far reaching lessons to learn! As an avid UCLA fan since the days of watching games in the ‘Ballroom’ of the Student Union Thank You!

As a hard core Bruin fan, I'm going to say something that may irritate some people, but here goes. In this game, Cori Close and her staff got outcoached. Particularly against Rutgers' full court press, the Bruins had way too many turnovers and looked awful. Other teams that the Bruins play will see that - NOT GOOD. As for OUR full court press, it was non existent. Why is that? With our superior talent level, we should have won by 40 points. Our non starting players looked completely out of sync later in the game. Like they didn't know how to attack the basket. Also, on the offensive end, our movement without the basketball was poor. Too many players were just hanging out beyond the arc, waiting for Lauren to pass them the ball. Finally, our blocking out and getting position for rebounds wasn't good either. We won, but this far into the season, we should be better. It may have been our worst performance of the year. We'll take the win, but I'd give us a "D" grade overall. The coaching staff better get off their butts and have our team better prepared for Maryland, or we will lose.

@@RonaldBelderol-r7t Thanks my friend. I expect to take some heat on these comments, but I made them as a warning for the Bruins to avoid a future loss. John Wooden's early championship teams were known for their great use of the full court press. If you execute the press well, it can help you take control of a game. It can also help you turn the tide if you are behind because of the turnovers it causes by your opponents. Cori and her staff got schooled by the Rutgers coaching staff on how to execute the press to perfection. I hope Cori and her staff took notes on how Rutgers did it.

Remember the last 4 minutes of the game there were 4 Freshman and Timea Gardiner and zero others of the top 8 rotation on the floor against their starters where at least 4 of those turnovers happened. Cori says turnover goals is under 12 every game. They were right at 12 last night so outside of the last 4 minutes they met that goal. They were not outcoached. Their defense strategy was to zone in the paint to get quicker doubles on Lauren and stop the dribble drive. Which is what they did. So that means you have to hit your midrange shots and your threes which we did in addition to them not being able to stop Lauren even with the double team. I thought our effort on defense could have been better and Rutgers played really hard on the offense glass.

@@Brianp823 Okay. You make good points. Maybe because we played so poorly in the closing minutes of the game it left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Still, Rutgers really executed the press well, which is something we haven't done all year. I said they were outcoached because I felt that the Bruins talent level was far superior to Rutgers, and that being the case, this game was a lot closer than it should have been. IMHO there are only about 5 other teams in the country that can match up with us, talent wise, and Rutgers is not one of them. As far as Lauren Betts, she is by far the best 5 in the country. There may be only two other centers in the country that can go one on one against her.

Are these girls and staff a video game? They are human. They have been on the road a long time on the other side of the country. Its not an easy task playing away, especially on a long road trip against opponents who arent as highly ranked. The mental aspect is a part of the game as well. Give this team a brreak. They're winning games by 15 on the road. That says everything.
