    I don't know why people make such a fuss about this. I'm a man and I don't give a shit (pun intended) if it's up or down when I enter. I have the capacity to look and see what state the toilet seat is in and adjust accordingly with minimal effort. And I personally always leave the toilet with the seat and lid down. The thing is that the toilet rim is not always clean and there are pee drops left on it often. So the problem is not having to put it down, but managing to avoid touching someone else's pee while doing it.

    • @Dani-it5sy
      @Dani-it5sy 2 года назад

      @@MsBimbobear So it's a problem for women to touch the toilet seat because it might be dirty. So that's why men should touch it instead? Men that don't even use the toilet seat so it is for sure not them that made it dirty 😆 As long as women still have this princes attitude they can all f off with this equality BS. It is women themselves that give the idea that women are weak and need help. You know, I know strong women. Women that work just as hard and are just as smart and tough as men. Some could even kick my a'' if they wanted to. And they would NEVER make any fuzz about something so stupid as a toilet seat. Believe me I know strong women and they are rare. 95% of women that claim to be strong only want to be strong but they really aren't. While they could be if they put the effort in to it.

    LID DOWN!!!
    1) THINGS FALL IN! Things left next to, on the sink, back of the toilet, etc, (My roommate leaves her toothbrush on the edge of the sink and then flips out when her sleeve knocks it into the bowl) If you make a habit of closing the bowl, they will simply bounce off, and no harm done.
    2) SMALL CHILDREN AND PETS. They like to play in the water and do other things in the water that they shouldn't. Toddlers have in fact been known to fall in and drown. One of my daughters just had to put a locking mechanism on their toilet lid, because their 9 month old (cute as a bug!) can crawl really fast and it's hard to keep track of him, and he looooves the toilet. His daddy hates the lock, but puts up with it.
    3) And to be honest, aesthetics! It simply looks nicer! And they wouldn't make the nice covers and novelty lids if you weren't meant to close them, would they? Geez...

      All I'm saying is that we're currently surfing on a general fear wave. Fear of the foreign, fear of disease, fear of almost completely safe things. Passing your whole home to Purrell weekly just because you have a toddler is making more bad than good. A kid has to go out there, eat some soil, get in touch with what's really in the world, because that's the only way (and only time) that its immune system can develop correctly.

  • @rei_cirith
    @rei_cirith 8 лет назад +3

    It's not really a matter of the bacteria... It's the fact that if there's an equal proportion of woman to men in the house, the toilet seat is more likely used down than up: men have to use it down for #2, and women have to use it for both #1 and #2. Also, have you ever accidentally sat on a toilet with no seat, with the occasional pee drop, in the middle of the night when you had to go pee? Having to then go wash yourself off because you now have nasty toilet rim juice on your legs, and you're basically completely awake now from the shock.
    Can't wait till we all just have microchips in our body/watch/phone that sends signals to things so that they automatically adjust settings as we approach.
    Also, your experiment doesn't make any sense. You should have done one go with all the plates set and the toilet cover up, and another one with all the plates set and the toilet cover down. If you repeat the process separately (and there's obviously no more poop during your second go), obviously there won't be more germs in the second run.

    Leaving the seat where you find it is the most efficient method because you can't know what the next person will need.
    assuming there's 50% chance the next person will need it up, and 50% down.
    If you don't do anything, there's 50% chance the next person will have to take an action.
    If you do something, you already took 1 action, and there's 50% chance the next person will have to take an action.
    Only when the chance is 0% that the next person will have to take an action (which means you know who the next person is and what he's going to need, which is impracticable) you'll get equal amount of required work as not doing anything. Leaving it in a specific state is just doing the work for the next person, and it's a wasteful guesswork.
    Conclusion: Leaving it as is is the most efficient way.

    • @NealeAdams
      @NealeAdams 8 лет назад

      +yoni0505 It depends however on the gender makeup of the household. Males use the toilet seat up more often than down, but females always use the toilet seat down. Another factor is the ratio (of the males only, of course) of urination to defecation. Your assumption that the chance of the next person using the seat up or down is equal, is too simple.

    • @Yoni0505Blogspot
      @Yoni0505Blogspot 8 лет назад +1

      Neale Adams That doesn't matter because taking an action only breaks even at 0% failure rate. You can't mathematically go below 0%, so you gain nothing, and you can't practically reach 0% so you're always wasting work.

    I've seen toilets that - due to the nature of the bowl, and extreme water pressure - will pretty much project whatever you deposited straight out the front. Especially when of a, let's say, more viscous nature. Betcha we'd find bacteria in those petri dishes then!

    I have a roommate who keeps it up when flushing. I constantly have to scrub off eraser sized pieces of shit that end up on the walls when he leaves the place after crapping. When he is in, I constantly have to tell him to clean his shit up that blasted out from the flush. The longest distance I've found it is about 3 feet away from the toilet. It rarely ever lands on the ground but most definitely on the top of the toilet tank and walls around it. I think he should have placed the various dishes higher at bowl brim level and up. The results might vary with the height of the dishes, as I have to do this shit removing every other day. I'm definitely moving out soon if he doesn't first.

  • @KistenGauss

    There is no sense in leaving the seat the way you found it. If anyone would follow the rule seat would be always up or down, and this can't be most efficient strategy. Most efficient strategy is leave the seat unchanged after your use.

    So what’s the big deal with leaving the toilet seat up? Guys are expected to put the seat up then down after we’re finished. That’s TWO actions! If we’re both moving the seat to accommodate us, that’s one action for each of us. That’s fair!

    It's not really the science of hygena that causes the debate, it's the way our Western society overreacts against any physical contact, however small, with excrements. Leaving the toilet seat down, you are not protecting yourself from harmful bacteria, you are protecting yourself from coming into contact with tiny stool particles dispered via aerosols. Asking Indians who defecate on their back garden, asking medical students whose everday's job is collecting stool samples, then chances are that they would be much less sensitive on that matter.

    Ummmm the Up or Down argument is not about "which is it more healthy", but it is about a woman half asleep going to sit down and falling in cause the seat is up, not the cover... I mean perhaps there is an argument about the cover up or down and which is more sanitary, but the vastly more common is if the seat is up or down and the issues a woman can have in some situations. I honestly have never even heard this argument about the lid being more healthy before, but perhaps it is in other circles or other parts of the world more then in the US or my neck of the woods.
