My first 1oz gold was a maple. A couple months later I upgraded it to an American gold eagle. Well worth the extra premium. It feels so much better to hold and look at American gold.

I disagree with your lcs unfortunately. US gold is where its at, unless your not in the US lol. Spend the extra 50 bucks and get the gold that you won't have a problem reselling and will most likely get some of the premium back. I have a few from the perth and canadian mint but i stack buffalos and eagles. Great choice with the maple, btw... that would have been my next choice, personally...

Makes the coin harder, if you're handling the coins or stacking them in tubes. Also, I've been able to purchase American Gold Eagles for much lower premiums over the years, than I have Gold Buffaloes. Not really an issue for people stacking and holding, but I can testify that I get the exact same amount for Gold Eagles as I can for pure Gold Buffaloes at my local coin shops. Go figure.
