I think he just wanted early board tempo until he could pull of his otk. Patches also helps do 2-4 damage which makes the one shot combo a little easier.
Also he can take out the pirates from his deck, patches comes out on his own and he can remove the others with parrot so he has a higher chance to discover the cards he wants.
i think parches is bugged, whenever he plays patches and It jumps into the Game he loses patches from the deck and he cant Discover It ir Play It again
still don't see the point of the pirates in the deck :o
