My sister had either a ‘49 or early ‘50’s Pontiac back when I was 7. The radio - the tone! It played beautifully- like a living room HIFI set!

My dad had a '50 Chevy that was very much like this Pontiac. The color paint was called Falcon Grey. During sun light it looked grey. At night, it looked green. A very interesting color.

My father's '50 Chevy was gray as well. He wanted a green one, but the dealer only had gray ones - take it or leave it. A few years later, he traded that Chevy for a two-tone green, '53 Pontiac Chieftain. I remember that car. Straight-8, Hydramatic, built like a tank. When told that a radio would cost $100.00 extra, he said, "For that kind of money, I can whistle and be happy." He kept it until we left Indiana, when he sold it to a coworker.

My folks had a '51 Silver Streak when I was little. I loved that big ol' car.

The Fire Chief of Superior, Wisconsin had that identical car in fire engine red. It was the official Chief vehicle and was kept in the main fire hall. Every time it left the fire hall when it returned the fire fighters would thoroughly wash it over and under then wax it. It was very unusual to see a 1950 sedan in Wisconsin that was rust free in the late 1960s. The City auctioned it off in the mid 1970s. Story is that within a week of it being sold it was totalled in a collision with a Harley Davidson motorcycle. It must have been a very high speed collision to total that heavy piece of steel. BTW the Chief's car had that spot light too which I enjoyed playing with when I visited the fire hall.

We have a 52 2dr survivor and I've been looking for the correct windshield visor for years now. This one has it. All one piece is what the Pontiacs usually had. Best looking visor of them all. This is a very nice example of an early 50s Poncho John. Cheers 🇨🇦

As soon as I saw Silver Streak on the front fenders I knew it was a 6. 8 cylinder models had an 8 in the middle of the emblem. Interesting the original owner sprung for quite a few accessories but didn't get the 8 cylinder engine.

Oh man.... i had a 50 silver streak Chieftain in the same color. I miss it. The Silver Streak was a Chieftain as a package. The Chieftain had the light up Lucite indian and some other upgrades. The standard Silver Streak had a solid chrome Indian.
So basically, it's a 1950 Silver Streak, Chieftain... just like a Camaro Z-28.
Mine was a 2 door. The roof was chopped, and i put a trans am subframe in it and a 455. That was a great car!

If this was still in Illinois, I'd probably buy it. Someone is getting a VERY well equipped, fantastic survivor.

The "Silver Streak" refers to the trademark stainless waterfall on the hood and trunk. Pontiacs had that from before WWII and the phrase "Silver Strak was used extensively in advertising.

From Wikipedia: The 4-door sedan was offered with doors that opened from the center to aid entry into the rear compartment, and the "Silver Streak" chrome trim piece was installed in the center of the grille and extended to the center top of the engine cover, and would be a Pontiac styling feature until 1960.
We had a 1st gen Chieftain when I was small in about 1960 in Rockland, MA. Gorgeous car - great heaters (fore and underseat

Wikipedia is wrong as much as it right and that is wrong about the doors. Pre WW2 was the last center opening doors on Pontiac sedans.

@@randyc8171 - No, really? The Silver Streak was on the front fender not the grille, as well. But it was a mention online.
Got anything positive? (Besides Wiki is positively wrong?) 😎

Actually they got rid of the silver streaks after 1956 - it was one of the first things Bunkie Knudson did upon being appointed head of Pontiac. To boost sales and image, he wanted to get rid of the 'fat man in suspenders look' of the 55/56 - the aphorism oft attributed to him: 'you can sell a young man's car to an old man, but you can't sell and old man's car to a young man". The streaks in one form or another had been around since 1935 (!)

At the time, all Pontiacs were referred to as Silver Streaks. Chieftain was the notch back body style and Streamliner was the fast back body style. This car is a Pontiac Silver Streak, Chieftain Deluxe, six.

Looks good for a car from a wet climate coastal state like Maine.
Probably spent most of its life in a garage. Otherwise it would have had corrossion issues in its undercarriage.
