This is one of my favorite techniques to do, if I. In a slump I find just playing with stringers like this is great. The ones you did look amazing. I guess you need a bigger kiln now
Very nice job Jamaison. I’ve always wanted to try a platter like that with the stringers. Now I have to! Wonderful instructions. Thanks so much for sharing. Love your videos.
Made two stringer bowls and never figured out an easy way of cutting them. I thought you did great. Love the pick up sticks. I also did something similar and made a Sushi set.
Question: Couldn't you put the stringers on the base glass and let them do their thing instead of fusing them separately, then having to do a second full-fuse firing?
Really like the "pick up sticks" project... possible to tack or contour fuse that onto one sheet of Tekta? If so, can you suggest a schedule? Thank you! 🙂
If I were going to do that, I’d probably go 400-1375-0, 9999-900-120, 100-700-0. But that’s just me and my kiln… you might want to do a small test first
Which kiln do you have? I’m really wanting a bigger one. I have a smaller Jen-ken now and it’s only an approximately a 6” octagon top load. I want a larger firing service in a clamshell top
Jamaison, if you were going to do the first technique in a form of a saguarro, would you cut out the design before the first firing? Thanks, I love that technique!!!
I think I would, yes. I would try to get it into my rough shape first instead of trying to cur/nip it or after. But maybe that could work too? Good luck!
This detail is in the video notes on RUclips. If you are watching in the app on your phone, you probably just click the headline under the video. If on your computer, I think it’s usually in a gray box with “show more” under the video headline or try to click the headline itself. Thanks!!!
She’s buying these as decorative display platters for some bookshelves in her living room, so we weren’t concerned about food safety. If so, we could cap with clear powder to create a protective layer.
Yes, I’m sure that would work but I’m not sure you’d get the full movement of the stringer that I was looking for. I really wanted it to ball up and round off.
I used some 1mm and some 2mm… I really don’t think it matters, personally. I suppose you might get more “movement” on 1mm but I am thinking the effect is essentially the same. If you have both, run a sample of each size first and see what you prefer?
You also need the grid, guide bar, etc. It’s not an inexpensive system to buy. This is the other components I have to make the full system: amzn.to/3tzAwxv
Great outcome. It’s so fun listening to you kinda talking to us and yourself to figure things out. Beautiful final pieces.
LOL - yeah, I’m a one-take, no-nonsense kinda guy! 😂
Thank you Jamaison for sharing the beauty you create! I am going to try this!
Super nice! A pleasant learning experience.
They are gorgeous!
So so proud of you and excited for you!!! Best of luck! Oh, and happy birthday!
Jamaison, those turned out so nice! Great job! I think the little gift for her is a super nice touch too. Excellent as always!😉👍
Lol. You make my wheels turn !! I’ve got to stop binge watching and get to the kiln❣️ I really enjoy your videos! Thanknyou❣️
Go create!
Beautiful!!!! I will definitely be trying that process
Love both techniques. The pick-up sticks version looks great. Nice use of colors there.
I like all of the platters - really nice

Hi Jamaison…thank you again for another great video! The platters are beautiful. Your learning curves help us immensely.
Thank you!

Absolutely love the projects! I'm going to try those myself, thank you for sharing! 😊
Good luck!
Love these, Jamaison! thank you for sharing your experiments and learning. Super instructions and tips.
Oh gosh, Jamison, 6 weeks without using your kiln. It was well worth it from the looks of the remodeling of your studio.😃
Thank you!
Very nice! They turned out great!
Love your videos! Thanks for sharing!!!!!!
I saw someone tape the stringers together before cutting. Haven't tried it yet though.
Thank you for another great lesson!
Fantastic video and glass 😍 I use Papyros paper as it lasts a few firings.
Exactly why I like it too!
Agree about Thinfire. I love Papyros. I can easily get multiple firings from Papyros.
Question: Couldn't you put the stringers on the base glass and let them do their thing instead of fusing them separately, then having to do a second full-fuse firing?
They won’t move like this is they are on glass first
I've heard tape to hold stringers together for cutting
Thank you that was so interesting as alwaysl😊
I've been known to spray with hair spray after arranging the glass. It seemed to be sticky enough to hold it during the fire.
Love the ideas. Thnks
Lovely! I like these kinds of pieces, one of my fave ones I made was on a black round, very striking.
I made myself a little test piece on black! 🥰

Hi there! I have the JenKen Profusion 26 (which has a 24x24 shelf) and I’ve been very pleased with it.
@@JamaisonSchuler thank you! I will look it up!
try masking tape together/cut with mosaic nippers. I've even used large toenail clippers on them singular (in a box)
The scissor type of nippers. Also making the edges not so uniform when laying them out helps open them up.
Good tips - thank you both!
May I ask, why are there ball berrings in your grid?Do they help the larger sheets move?
Yes, that’s exactly right.

What is your full fuse ramping schedule? I did a full fuse, but my platter cracked. TIA

Can you just put the stringers directly on the glass since you're full fusing it anyway on the pi k up stick one?
I enjoy your videos and love the outcome of your platters. Is this food safe?

Wouldn’t a tack fuse work to stick them together? Then place that creation on top of the tektite?
Yes, I’m sure that would work but I’m not sure you’d get the full movement of the stringer that I was looking for. I really wanted it to ball up and round off.
thank u for sharing
Hi Jamaison, I love your videos and your creativity! Does it matter what size stringers you use to get this effect?
I used some 1mm and some 2mm… I really don’t think it matters, personally. I suppose you might get more “movement” on 1mm but I am thinking the effect is essentially the same. If you have both, run a sample of each size first and see what you prefer?
Where I can but such glass cutting table?
I have the full cutter’s mate system. This is the strip cutting attachment you see me using. amzn.to/3gb7Yr4
You also need the grid, guide bar, etc. It’s not an inexpensive system to buy. This is the other components I have to make the full system: amzn.to/3tzAwxv
FWIW: Thinfire sticks to opaque BE, but not to transparents. Weird.
Yes, seems opals are “stickier” with papers and even kiln wash on a shelf
Are the stringers 1 or 2 mm?
I can’t recall which I used!
