It was like the study of mercury and lead poisoning in the 1920s and '30s. How much of it was a deliberate attempt to hurt someone and how much was just in the exposure to the population from industrial effluence and the burning of unleaded fuels? It wasn't so much that some sinister unknown radiation exposure event happened to these particular people as it was that that radioactive particulate was blowing around in the wind across the planet and they just happened to get dusted...and caught in an avalanche at night when they were asleep and weren't dressed to go out in the cold causing them to get hypothermia after escaping from their wrecked tents on what they had thought was a fairly safe and level surface...and having their dead bodies then scavenged by wild animals. A really crappy series of unexpected events, but not out of the realm of physical possibilities.
Imagine what sort of wild theories would have sprung up if the Uruguayan rugby team members whose plane had crashed in the Andes mountains in 1972 hadn't successfully hiked out to get themselves and their friends rescued. If they had all eventually succumbed to hunger and exposure and their bodies had been found months or years later, how would the evidence of their actions been interpreted if they hadn't been able to speak for themselves?

Somerton man is still a mystery. What was he doing there? How did he die? What did the code mean? Why did no one know he was missing? No claimed the body? All that was solved was his name. The least interesting part of it....
I think that he was likely an undiagnosed schizophrenic who killed himself. That fits everything in the circumstances except the method of death. Public shame regarding mental illness = no report of a missing person, the code is nothing more than the work of an unwell mind & he likely developed an unhealthy obsession with the nurse who treated him & showed him some kindness, perhaps she gifted him the book as an attempt to give him some inspiration. I suspect he poisoned himself with something they could not identify at the time & we now can no longer figure out (maybe the nurse supplied it hence why she wouldn’t talk). Throw in some incompetent police work & that pretty much wraps it up. Not exciting or sexy but it makes sense.

The two guys who claimed to be responsible for the crop circles were found to have been lying about a lot of them when they try to re-create them on TV. They could not make the crop circles nearly as accurate as a lot of the ones they claim to have made they even gave up on making the one on TV because it was not working out
Humans still did it, not aliens or anything else (you'd have to prove aliens exist first which is a bit of a leap to say the least), whereas humans are proven to exist.
