Icy - SnowKitten The movie pretty much was, too, in fact- the film was an adaptation of a children's book. But it seems like the creators didn't want Mai to be a boy in the series because in the movie, Gabu and Mai seem to become almost like love interests, so I guess the show makers needed Mai to be a girl because I guess they WANTED some sort of love story (or a really close friendship) between Gabu and Mai in the series that didn't seem.... you know. It's a fair shame tbh...
Alyssa Bullock Mei’s gender is never consistent in this series: In the book, it’s ambiguous for the most part. In the movie, they’re male. In the TV show, they’re female. I’ve mostly just stopped caring about what gender they are at this point because I know that, by the time the next rendition of this story comes out, they’re just going to change it.
@@skydog0_038 tbh, I find it kinda creepy. Mei as a girl isn't bad, the book does admittedly leave Mei's gender unknown. But in the series, they make Mei seem so much younger, while Gabu is basically older without a doubt. He's always calling her "kido" and what not. Mei in the show feels very innocent and naive, and she doesn't always notice or catch on to Gabu lying to her. It feels weird, like she's a clueless child being fooled by an older, literal predator.
Honestly I think that the implication of their friendship as platonic is kind of thrown to the wayside when Mei's gender is changed. It's a change that basically says "Hey, let's do something to imply that there's something other than platonic friendship at play here." I mean, honestly I probably wouldn't mind it so much if they didn't make Mei sound like she was ten. .-.
Not hard to see why they'd stop making episodes for this. They already mellowed it down so much by making Mei a chick and all that. The series ended where the movie would have Mei and Gabu be hunted down by Giro and the pack, before they both have to endure a blizzard on the mountain that Mei almost died from and offers herself for Gabu to eat. And if that isn't doing it mature enough for you, Gabu fights to the near death against Giro and loses his memory to an avalanche afterwards. So he nearly eats Mei for real when they reunite, and it's a tense moment of betrayal where Gabu is exceptionally harsh and hungering before Mei breaks down in tears.
To be fair, Mei's gender wasn't actually specified in the original book, as far as I know. So the movie making Mei a male is about as 'inaccurate' as the show making her female.
We could all admit that the song is pretty good I ain't going to when I first saw the show and heard the song I just a regular animation I mean honestly I didn't have no problem with a cartoon like this this cartoon is actually very good knowing it's about a small female lamb and a brown scared big wolf that become friends other than that I'll give this movie 100 out of 10😊
People say they hate this. Well I kinda do to. The two sides for me. Love it because it looks like it'd work! The art style is good and the theme song is awesome. But the thing is... Mei isn't a girl. In the movie, Mei is male. They kinda are making this like a romeo and Juliet thing (well the movie made it seem like that to but this makes it worse) now the designs... Gabu isn't that type of color and Mei isn't pink. Mei is a gray/white goat. Overall, I like it but don't like it as much as the movie
I think they change the gender just to make it more "appealing" and "appropriate" for the kids from the western civilization. (if it makes it to the west)
Mei's gender is up to interpretation according to the author. Reason why the movie was actually heralded a lot by the LGBT community since it actually portrays a good same sex relationship if you look at it as Mei being male.
Please Sparky Animation. Seriously, I really want a next season. ( Sorry for double-post ). Oh, and I like Mei as a boy, but I think I prefer Mei as a girl.
I can get by the female change, tho I really feel like they did it to avoid gay vibes. But like... if you watch this series a bit, they make it seems much more like this Mei isnt even an adult. The movie had a good size ratio where the overall "Adult" goats were still Mei's size since he was matured, and the elders were simply larger because, of course, they're much older. But this one has Mei more in the teen category i guess? Gabu even calls her "kiddo" and she's all little and cutesy with the large head style of a young/kid character compared to the adults, etc. I can understand if they werent actually trying to go that route, but it's much harder to ignore in the tv series. Which just feels odd lol
I dont like mei as a girl or how its 3d animated I'd like it if they made it like the movie. Otherwise I hate it ! I dont care if it was because of thoughts of them being gay !
i mostly didnt like the 3d animation thats why i said i hated it not because the gender of mei can be a boy or a girl but i do like him as a boy.I just want the animation like the movie. just to clear up this mistake ^_^

Definitely a Japanese type but I love it very cute and amazing animation
I wouldn't have a problem with Mei being female if I didn't think they only changed it to avoid gay implications.
When they changed it to make it DIFFERENT. Besides, the book never acknowledges Mei's gender.
@@mercenaryknight5419 hm i thought it did mention the gender

I have a question : Can we expect a next after episode 26, or can I go watch the movie again in order to try forget the TV series ?
