Gday David The war in New Guinea was from 23 January 1942 - 15 August 1945 in that date the ration of the time operational ration 02 or English rations.
I trekked Kokoda and the locals still ate what was the mainstay for the Australians on the trek during war - rice, corned beef, tinned sardines and biscuits washed down with black tea or coffee.
Gday Sam, I enjoyed the review even though it mostly was rancid and stunk, It looked really good though, i hope to get a few views on this video, but its going slow. Take care mate, Cheers
Brilliant Pete. Too bad it had so much non attractive items after such a time. The 1990 ish canadian IMPS that I reviewed last year were thankfully in better shape overall. Thanks for sharing!
G'day Paul. Glad you liked the video, its a shame it didn't hold out. It would have been great to been able to eat the mains. I guess it all comes down to how well it was stored. Cheers Paul.
So cool to see this ration and what it contained but that sweetened condensed milk going all over your hand cracked me up. You are braver than me, I would not have opened that cheese up!
Gday Su, i should have figured out it was going to burst out the end, in the moment it didnt occur to me, the cheese i could smell though the tin. thanks for watching, cheers pete
I wouldn’t do the Apple drink! If it smells, don’t go there! You can’t beat a good cup of coffee! Unfortunately, most of it didn’t survive. Thank you for sharing. Blessings 👍🏼
G'day yeah both drinks looked like sand and dirt, of course they were not going to be any good. It was just great to see this this ration due to its age its unlikely we will see another like it. Thanks for watching cheers
Yes sadly very little survived, but it's the oldest that ever been shown, and I am sure it was just stored in a shed. Nice to get a look at the contents. Cheers mate
i remember those B Packs from my time playing soldiers. They were the worst one. Apart from the 2 fruit tin and the chocolate nobody would swap for anything in that pack. I could almost taste the disgusting bacon and beans when you pulled it out. The lamb and veges wasnt much better although you could kill the taste and make it edible by adding the curry powder if you had time
Wow if they were bad when fresh age didn't do them any favours at all, Not like wine where it matures with age and gets better. lol Thank you for your insight into the use of the ration in the day. Cheers Greg.
I love the happiness in his voice when he describes the rancid smells.
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed my video cheers mate

G'day mate thanks for watching and commenting, you can't imagine how bad it actually was.
Cheers mate
I wonder what the ration was like on New Guinea during world war two. The Australians did an amazing job under the most difficult conditions.

Well done Pete! Very interesting and entertaining as well :-) That chocolate was amazing - 100% bloom as you say good stuff.

Yes shame the mains were not edible, thanks for watching.

It's sad that so few things survived. I guess it's to be expected though.

bummer most of this ration went to crap but still a very cool piece of ration history to look at
Thanks Kaylynn, yes it was a real shame it wasn't edible looked like it might be, cheers
2 scammers here below Pete !!
I have removed em, cheers Ricky
not the oldest...oldest I ever got on youtube was from the american civil war...1860s......this aint even close.
Hi Billie, not the oldest ration, the oldest Australian Cr1m the oldest one prior to this video was 2000
Oldest CR1M...by farrrr
@@pete_review wouldn't a Cr1m be the oldest Australian ration at least shown as of currently?. Beside that amazing stuff.
Legend says two year's later he's still on the toilet 😂
Lol yes for sure, thanks for watching my videos, cheers mate
In 1986 I was issued a rat pack dated 1968. I thought no sane man would it that. After three days in the field ate it all up and licked my spoon dry.
Thanks for your story
When your hungry you would be surprised what you would eat.
Cheers mate
