Any good? How far over the MA line?? If it's worth it, (esp if there is homemade hash) I'd take a ride. Hard to find many around here lately. Greetings and Happy Holidays from cold MA!
Never heard of this man until today and watching this almost made me feel like I've known him for a a long time. Sad that generation is almost completely gone. Rare to find such places anymore.
I’d heard about this place all the way down in central Massachusetts! Sad to hear that he went, but it’s rare to see such a hardworking and dedicated small businessman, nowadays. I hope his final days were peaceful and restful. He certainly earned his retirement.
I just stopped to think about all those older people feeling and looking like they were kids again waiting in line for their bagged lunch 😊 just amazing. The older woman just reliving her datng days with her now husband ❤
How wonderful this man and sandwich shop must have been. I've never been to Main, eaten there, or knew of that gentleman, until seeing this but I do feel the loss. My condolences to his family, friends and the community.
Skip didn't want it that way. He was the only one who ran the register. That's how you control your business. Letting others make the sandwiches without oversight and man the register when Skip wasn't there is how he would have lost his business and reputation if he had done that. When he retired, The Coffee Pot also retired.
When I was a kid in Easton, Pa there were several places like this. Moved to Kentucky and there are no places like Coffee Pot. What a shame. Proud of my family’s roots in Maine
Im in a small town in Pennsylvania and dont know much about main but i now know about this great man. If only he had a son he could have left the bussiness too since it was so sucessful. Its a shame he closed it in '09, great places that where hometown diners are all closing and big corperations are taking over.
Similar to not copying down moms and grandmas recipes. It is a true tragedy when we loose these culinary masterpieces for ever. Now that he has passed would it be possible to resurrect the business? It would make a lot of people happy at a time when 50% of the country could use up lifting.
I must admit, it was a heartwarming story… But he decided to close upon his retirement. Couldn’t one of the actual sandwich makers take over the business?
@ Very soon the most vile thing in history will be President of the USA. I have talked to so many people that are nauseous when they even think about it, including myself. Trump will shit all over the working class.

From a time passed when the owner was a character of sorts, and that unique presence was as much of a draw as the quality of the product sold. R.I.P Mr. Skip.
My town had a similar place with a signature sandwich which set the standard. None compares, even those I've made at home. It's sad when the magic is lost. RIP Coffee Pot man.
Such an story and what an incredible man he was, I live in Wales UK 🏴 and Bangor is in north Wales so the video struck a chord for me. May he rest in peace 🕊️❤.
I grew up in the Rocky mountains, small coal mining towns, lumber railroad. There was a town about 20 minutes from mine had their version of this gentleman, best cold foot long sandwiches I ever had. Beat subway all to hell. RIP Skip, a life well lived!!🙏🙏
It's unfortunate that a place like The Coffee Pot couldn't continue with new ownership. Places like this are hard to find in many cities and towns across the land.
Skip was the only one who ran the register in The Coffee Pot's entirety. Had he allowed the store to be run by others, the quality of the sandwiches would have gone down and who knows if half the sales would have gone into the register. The store retired when he did. A good businessman.
Someone else could do the same thing with a different name, but they would have the challenge of training customers that the sandwiches are pre-made and there are no customizations, no "extra," no "leave off," and no gluten-free, vegan options.
I remember Skip had his own personal favorite version of the coffee pot sandwich that he called the Bangor Big Butt sandwich. Ol' Skip used 4 thin full slices of a mortadella made of pork a*holes and jowls mixed with pimento instead of the 3 slices of salami. Topped it off with a dash of vinegar.
Next to Bangor Savings Bank . They started off there as the "Coffee Pot Cafe" , but soon reverted to the original "Coffee Pot Sandwich Shop" . Modern decor and seating. The traditional fillings are still there , but a wider range of fillings now and priced from 6.25 to 9.95 ( versus 1.90 to 3.20 in 2009 ) . 10% off for military & first responders.

i figure the shape of the sandwich resembles a tall coffee pot. Either that or the sandwich is named after the store, The Coffee Pot. bangor maine is the only place that calls it that.
It’s sad that places like that rarely exist anymore. So many chain restaurants and fast food places. I miss the small mom and pop places like this.
